just what kind of interaction Marie will have with Haruto?
And will they continue the scene bet. H9 and Kriemhild in the prev ep?

Once again, I was forced to miss the first half due to other stuff that unfortunately routinely pops up within the same timeframe.

The M77 crew landed in an area used for field training by Karlstein Institute trainees.
While walking around Saki, Akira and L-Elf (cue in flashbacks) stumble upon two KI kids.
Saki gets shot in the chest, but she recovers after a couple minutes and L-Elf disables the two KI kids.
Looks like the KI kids are like the Cosmic Era's Extendeds in that they are often pitted against each other during their training and are even allowed to kill their "classmates" in order to better themselves or complete the challenges/assignments.
OS-tan talks to Marie (with her actual voice, not the screen messages), while Akira and Saki body-swap with the unconscious KI kids to gather Intel on the Dorssian troops.
Marie confronts Haruto, while the other Valvraves destroy an Ideal that was patrolling the area.
Return of the "I'm not human" angst on Haruto's side as he reveals his nature to Marie.
Boom. Marie gets headshot'ed.
Guess who pulled the trigger? Not a Dorssia grunt or another Karlstein trainee.
L-ELF.
New mechs make their appearance and they're a match for the Valvraves.

Guess who's back to life, zombie style?
Marie. (though she looks a bit dead-eyed there)

So glad we're getting Karlstein flashbacks. I was worried they'd skimp on those because of the Audrey manga. Also good to see more confirmation that L-Elf does not kill quite as indiscriminately as some think.

Tell that to Marie. I thought he let those kids live because he could use them for Saki and Akira to infiltrate that squad. I don't think it was out of kindness, just look at how he did Marie.

But, yeah like you said, I wouldn't be surprised if that does end up kickstarting her memories.

I liked the pacing used in this episode. Haruto and his friends finally arrived on Earth while L-Elf, Saki and Akira go to Karlstein for infiltration quest against it. There's a lot of action, Marie suddenly take a look towards Valvrave I and wants Haruto to reveal the secret behind saving the world with his mighty robot. Unfortunately L-Elf tells him not to, and I was shocked at the cliffhanger. That's just too much, even the opening scene hints more about the future but Sunrise should have been more subtle for many reasons about it. Let's see how in mind will the next episode showing more about Marie.

I don't know...Given the flashback with the Dorssia boys I don't think we're meant to think it was just cold calculation at work there. At the very least I think there was some empathy involved.

Any chance that Marie is the first Kamitsuki mentioned by future Saki? Marie is shaping herself to become the informant of the past so to speak. Ergo, they get the story about Magius and Kamitsuki from her. Looks like Saki becomes an advisor/caretaker to future royalty and Akira-chan becomes a godmother O.o.

Sunrise could just make a season that deals with just the flashbacks/flash forwards froms season 1 and 2 and I'd be down with it as Valverave Season 3.
Being Kamitsuki pretty much negates the purpose of reproduction imo. :/

All the students are about 16 years old with L-Elf being the oldest? So 5 years ago Marie would've been 11 so she's most likely the first Kamitsuki. Man Marie's character is getting very interesting. It was cute to see L-Elf smile when he was a kid. And Satomi LOL that guy is still alive after 200 years.

My thought to sum up the entire episode at this point

QUIT SHOOTING FIRST and asking questions later, L Elf!!!

I have to say I had been thinking since early in the series that Maria might be a vampire and with last weeks revelation she had amnesia I actually had a fleeting thought she was Valvrave 1's original pilot, so I was really surprised (happily) that this seems to be part of what is going on here. It didn't unfolded the way I thought it would, either, which was nice

I'm not kidding about L Elf needing to quit the shooting people first stuff either. Really, even Haruto might have realized, had he had a bit more time to talk to Maria, that she might be like him. He caught her talking to the OS, she who won't talk to him, for pete sake! As for Maria coming back as a Zombie, I don't think so - she looks dead to the world most of the time anyway. Pino seems to think it has something to do with Runes. I have a feeling the first thing Maria says next week is going to be along the lines of "Ouch! and/or "why the h*ll did you shoot me." On the other hand I don't think her memories will come back all at once next week but once L Elf finds out she also was talking to Pino he'll realize just how much he mucked up here. Maria obviously knows a lot more about what is going on, once they can get her memories back in full.

As for L Elf, he seriously meant to kill her - I'm surprised anyone would think differently. L Elf's one of my fav character but I know an anti hero when I see one. This guy is complicated due to his upbringing. I do think that landing almost on top of the Karlstein school did have him rattled and he was much more likely to shoot someone like Maria because of it. My theory/feeling on this is it reminded him of who he was where he'd mellowed a bit during the months with the JIOR kids. It also, IMO, points out a problem with not having Shoko with them. Putting any shipping issues aside, she does have some sort of influence, for the better, on L Elf. She seems to simply get him to think things through a bit better, if nothing else. I do hope that after things clear up a bit with Maria, that she can take over that piece of keeping L Elf in line because IMO shooting Maria wasn't really a good move on L Elf's part. What I'm meaning here is that he didn't seem to think through all the ramifications of doing that before he did it. Had she stayed dead, he'd have had to deal with the other kids flipping out over what he did, as well as possibly losing all control of Haruto (at least for a time). Maria finding out what was going on would have been better handled by not going that route, if L Elf had just thought it through a bit more and I feel he didn't. Quick side note - I'm not supporting a L Elf/Maria ship here and realized that might come off that way from what I said. I can't see that, personally, as a romantic couple but I can see it as a working relationship couple when Shoko isn't involved.

Oh I got a kick out of seeing Akira's brother in the future. From what they were talking about it confirms Akira isn't dead (they didn't talk about her in past tense), and others can become vampires like Saki and Co, though how that is going to work is up in the air. Also the kid isn't a vampire yet. On the other hand, is it Akira's who is 11 or was it Maria who was 11 when she because a vampire. I actually thought that before the big ending but didn't realize they would really go that way until L Elf shot Maria. Ok, this was a great episode! [I also realized I think L Elf is a Jr Kerr Avon and that may be why I'm attracted to him but few people here would get the reference, which is OK (Avon is a character from a 1980s show called Blake's Seven that I loved when I was younger and L Elf just really reminded me of him in this episode) ]

Well there are still 2 Valvraves needed to make the golden 7. He likely gets one of the last 2.

No kidding! This show has some of the best use of flash forward I've seen in a show

Yet they have a kid they're taking care of, so there must be more to being a Kamitsuki than we understand yet.

She's actually very relevant. Shoko is the tie that binds everyone in this story and what happens to Shoko in the long run is going to matter a lot, IMO.
