Discussion Regarding The Origin Of "The Weapon"

I recently watched all 8 episodes, and I think Soul Eater is a good show, it's definitely one of the more random out there.

A possibility of becoming a weapon, which also explains Maka not being a weapon, is that it's in the blood but not everyone of the line becomes a weapon so it lies dormant until somewhere along the line you get a weapon.

This means they are just human, it also explains why weapons grow older (Stein mentioned it) and why Shinigami has Spirit, instead of an older weapon.

Here's my theory as someone who only watched the anime, instead of genes, blood or having a body that can transform, its the soul instead.

Tsubaki mentioned Mifune as a 'Blade soul'.

I believe its your soul that determines whether you can become a weapon. Like Soul probably has a 'Scythe soul' and the sisters' 'Gun souls'.

I guess I should have just watched raws instead of being lazy and read subs lol.

Though the origin of my theory may have been an error, it still stands plausible lol

Appearently, Tsubaki's anchestor weapon form is created by Arachne herself, so passing down tru genes are definitely possible.

So, what about Fire and Thunder Pots? They are both weapons, but seems not so-human like and even if they are humans, they seems to be only children. It's also mentioned that they are "earth shamans". Maybe another weapon's old clan?

I think that not everyone can be born as weapons, but every normal person can become meister as long as one is willing to fight and one must find a weapon who suits his soul wavelenght.

However it's strange that there seems to be more weapons than technicans - like people with weapon's blood running in their veins living on the streets (Thompson sisters) or Death Scythe who didn't needed meister to became one (like Justin). But maybe they are just rare exceptions.

DS did have a meister, Stein and Maka's mom who forged him into a death scythe, also I think it is just a special attribute of the soul like some are born with the ability to sense wavelengths, some can channel it into attacks without a weapon etc...

The person you responded to was talking about Justin, another Death Scythe. Remember, that's just a title that weapons get, Spirit's not the only one. If you don't know who Justin is, then you probably shouldn't have clicked on the spoiler tag...

And I agree. Being a meister requires talent in soul wavelength manipulation or perception. Presumably not everyone is up to it.

I know who Justin is and that is why Soul was suprised that Justin was able to fight without a meister maybe it is just something you are born with, also didn't someone in the manga say Weapons were created by mixing the ability to transform from a witch's soul with a human soul

Weapon and Technician must have compatible wavelengths. This is what allows power like the Witch Hunter to work (insert guitar explanation here). Some weapons or technicians don't fit into this mold (I'll refrain from using a spoiler here), but it's likely that most do.

So, if one were to assume that being a Weapon is genetic, then one must also assume that being a Technician is genetic. Since it's clear Maka didn't receive the weapon genes of her dad, she must have received the technician genes from her mom.

So it's possible that technicians are just people with weapon genes but not the ability to actually become a weapon, and that's why only certain weapons are able to be used by certain technicians. Those who fight purely based on soul wavelengths or weapons who fight without a technician are probably very rare exceptions to this.

On the origin of Weapons.

I think we've established that Arachne's actions were out of the ordinary, deemed heretical by Shinigami and witches alike. I think what made it so was because creating the Demon Weapons (as far as we know, only Tsubaki's family the Nakatsukasas) involved manipulating the soul of a witch, much like the manga confirmed Chrona ended up with Ragnorok inside of 'her' because Medusa replaced her blood with the 'black blood' of the melted-down demon sword; Ragnorok was previously a normal Weapon, albeit a nonhuman one.

So...the various backstories we've had for the weapons (a unique family who inherit various forms, a rich family, and homeless pair) make me think that some people are simply born as Weapons. That is, humans with the ability to turn into weapons, as I'm not sure Soul's 'not human' comment of ep.1 was clear on the matter. They are obviously not so far apart from humans that they cannot breed with them. Interestingly, though, where each person's soul has elements of their physical appearance (Stein's bolt, Kid's stripes), when this is shown for Weapons, we see their weapon form instead (Justin as a guillotine, for example).

In Maka's case, I think that were a Weapon and a human to have a child, it's a matter of genetics and chance. They can inherit their Weapon parents nature or not. Presumably if Maka had been born a weapon, she would have been a scythe too (and on the subject, I reckon Spirit was once a Demon Scythe like Soul).

When it comes to fighting, I think it's a matter of personal strength rather than in-born ability which allows a Weapon to fight without a Technician. I think the Death Scythes could probably manage it, for example, seeing as they are the elite amongst Weapons. When he saw Justin, I don't think Soul was seeing anything particularly unique. He's still only a student, and there's a lot he's not yet achieved as a Weapon himself, as he realises in that chapter.

Just because the student Weapons can't all fight effectively without Techs (Liz and Patty being something of an exception given their fight with the mummies) at the moment, doesn't mean they don't have the potential to do so at some point.

Still, considering what Marie did to that poor toilet, I think you're right that even without a tech, a Death Scythe is a formidable opponent.

When I said I didn't think Soul was seeing anything unique, I was referring specifically to seeing a Weapon fight without a Tech. Apparently a Weapon 'raising' himself is much rarer.

And you're right about that unfortunate toilet. I'd like to see what the 'smashing weapon' really looks like. I also want confirmation of my belief that all Death Scythes are black. Spirit being black doesn't mean they all are.
