The Ichika from the Yuuki Homura manga seems to be conforming to most male fans: He's more sarcastic and his reasoning for fighting Cecilia is "I don't like men being second class because of the IS". In the LN, Ichika doesn't give a fuck.

Although it was kinda odd that he was SMILING when Houki had to say goodbye. You'd think he would be more sad that his childhood friend is leaving. But apparently he was "Lol nope, see ya Houki!"

I did say LESS nihilistic, doesn't mean canon Ichika is ultra-emo classic anti-hero like say, ST.

I meant newmanga!Ichika is somewhat more optimistic than his novel canon counterpart, who is like you said. He accept reality as it is, picking easy route despite the hardship he endure being passive like that.
