Damn it. It's bad enough I have to suffer withdrawal symptons but a cliffhanger ending is just too much. I really hope the movie will be kick-ass to make up for all this.

But i think it's a given he chose for Sheryl. Yes he cares for Ranka, but he loves Sheryl.

That movie better be a 3 and a half hour sit of awesomeness to make up for the suckass ending of the series.... really.

Oh well at least this ending was good for the fans, cause they all went cold turkey in 30 minutes, after 24 eps of buildup.

And then again we all know everyone will watch and buy the next installment of Macross made by Kawamori anyway. cause hey, we're just cheap that way

I feel sorry for fansub watchers because they'll be spammed with distracting karaokes covering up the screen. LOL

Overall, I thought the episode was highly entertaining to watch, of course mainly due to the battle sequences. I do in fact agree with many people that it does feel very rushed especially the 2nd half of the ep.

How many anime series, animated movies and live films (American, Japanese or other) did we see romance being solved (in terms of "cementing" couples, in wait for the next step) already before starting off with a sequel or another season? I would say A LOT, honestly. If Kawamori wants to focus on other untold aspects of the series, romance could have been solved by now; by that I meant that if Sheryl was confirmed as the chosen one for Alto to the eyes of everybody, all we'd wait for the romance department would be a wedding or something close to it while efforts would be deployed for other mysteries to be solved (Birla, Minmay, Megaroad-1, remains of Grace's private army, etc.).

Being a hardcore Sheryl fan myself and a very tough customer BTW, I don't see Ranka winning neither. However, there are times I think Kawamori should have looked back in his previous series on how calling an end for love traingles and do the same here. We had a LT in SDFM, Minmay = out! We had one in Macross Plus, Guld = out! As well as in Escaflowne, Allen = out with 3 episodes left!

Interesting that you mentioned that point, but everyone (Japan and rest of the world included) expected a more explicit finish between Alto and Sheryl as well as for Ranka to call it quits, just like Minmay did before.

Its a total cop out.. I dont care about the mecha porn.. I dont care about old series homages.. I dont care about the song.. I signed up because I was sold on the main theme as an LT.

And this is what I get =.= .. A harem ending, which doesn't sound so bad if they actually build both sides equally thoughout the series. A retelling movie? So I can watch Sheryl goes tru all these painfull scene again and again with no confirmation if she touch the baseline at the end? And OVA where she need to struggle MORE just so she can have the only one thing she ever longed for? (if that even guaranteed?)

As it is now, Alto just went from quite an interesting (more then meets the eye kind of guy) to a rather idiotic indecisive guy..

Yikes! Rabid sheryl fans reaching for conclusions from anything. the earing just was a means for Alto, Ranka and Sheryl to communicate. IF Alto had not had that earing he could not have joined in the Vajra network with Sheryl and Ranka. the earing is a symbol of the three of them. Notice that the same thing happened with the first earing, Alto was able to get in touch with BOTH girls.
Again, now we use Japanese culture to our convenience.

Alto Salute was a mean to tell Sheryl that all was well and mission accomplished(he came back like he promised). IT is hard to find a symbolism when you wear Shipping goggles. Kawamori is just counting of the 90% of the fans short term memory, it will be at least 3-6 months before the movie is out.

Kawamori, nice 25 episode prequel series you created ...

What the hell, if he wanted to even out the chances and start again on different level in the movie he should have celled it OAV Macross Frontier and the movie - Macross Frontier. I'm disappointed in the way it turned out because we got a series that only managed to present us with all the characters, their development and base plot. The most essential part of the series was done like a prequel oav ending.
