(L) Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ (Nitroplus & Bee Train)

Alright I just saw RAW and here are my thughts:

I really don't get why everyone are so mad? I haven't plaid game nor have I seen OVA and I see nothing wrong. Did you really expect a happy ending for such dramatic series?

About Reiji being killed so easily... well there was no purpose for him to fight anymore. He lost Cal and he brought Elen to her place of memories and saw her real smile. That was the main reason why he lived for. Since his wish was acomplished, he simply relexed. He had no regrets anymore.

When he shot Elen, he became a phantom without emotions again since he had no reason to live. If he would get shot it wouldn't matter. You can say it is exactly same thing here.

Besides his death isn't confirmed. He got shot, he fell... any prove that he died? Maybe he still can be saved.

There are only two things that dissapointed me. Reiji once again abondened Cal, he could take her body and burry it properly or something. But I guess if they took her body, they wouldn't be able to escape so I'll forgive him that.

And second thing is that when Reiji fell, Elen did nothing about it. Nor did she got suprised that he is lying there, not asking anything... she could give more thought to it instead of just lying down as well... I guess having her memories back, also had killed all will for her to fight. She got what she dreamed about so I guess she can die without regrets as well. Won't be suprised if she will get as easily shot as Reiji.

So yeh, I have no complaints here. Could be better, but it isn't as horrible as you people make it look.

P.S. Well now I need to wait for subs in order to know what they were thinking, maybe my theory will be ruined. But I'm sure that I'm right.

And by the way, Reiji could be easily killed the first time Drei entered the screen. He noticed Cal's shot only after it hit the target and something fell of Mio's bag. If she shot not the bag but him, he would be as easily killed as right now.

I think that Zwei is right at what he says. Sadly, the three OVAs were so ridiculous. Then they managed to screw up the ending.

Eeven if you make the rest of the episodes perfect, if you don't do a good final, then that series is just mediocre.

If some people are happy about the ending, thinking that Elen/Reiji fans get trolled, there is a serious problem with them. Even if DDT ending happened, I'd still want Reiji to live! Get a life, geez -_-

@Zwei: Perfect ending!!! That can be easily my true ending for Phantom! It has a perfect conclusion!

I have little problems with the ending(You know with the last 15-20 seconds...). And please be more paitent and avoid spoiling the of the people. I guess the subbers are still working on the last episode.

Just because your favourite character will live, it doesn't make a perfect ending. I can't believe that you were watching 25 dramatic episodes and still were hoping for happy ending -_-
I like happy endings, but have Zwei and Ein live happily ever after would ruin the show much more. I like Zwei, but his death was obviouse.

I also really liked Cal, but I'm not bitching because she got shot in such stupid situation. It didn't ruin series for me.

It's not because Elen is my favorite characer. I like Reiji JUST AS MUCH! And I think that if they kill Reiji and leave the series like that, Elen should also die!

Even if I wanted an ending where my favorite character lives, nobody can judge that! Matter of preference.

I read the visual novel and like the Cerulean Sky Ending there. So, it can be only natural for me to want the studio do that eding completely.

I wasn't rude, but hearing 100s of times how this ending sucks really starts to get annoying when in reality it doesn't as everyone claims it to be.

Who said Elen will live, maybe they have spared us and didn't show how someone came and shot her while she was lying there.

And somebody might have wanted different ending from yours, you can't satisfy everyone. That is the basic problem when someone starts to animate or film a game which has several ending versions. If Phantom game had one ending with Reiji dieing, everyone would be happy right now.

Let's just hope that there will be OVAs with 3 other versions: for Reiji, Cal and Mio.

Then everyone will be happy. Right now imagine that you were playing for Elen and that's what you got. You are not always happy with game endings and it is one of the reasons why you try to play for someone else.

Since I didn't play game, it really doesn't bother me. Nor Elen nor Reiji would have normal life, they would be hunted without stop. So why turtore them anymore?

Besides Elen is still alive in the end. So it isn't "kill them all" ending.

I would honestly feel more trolled if Phantom got a fairytale ending. For a title so conformed to methodical execution, it'd be complete nonsense for it to pull a Disney. The actual ending scene isn't particularly amazing in the cinematic sense per se, but the ultimate dénouement is certainly appropriate considering one of the ongoing themes of season two is the tragic misfortune attached to becoming a Phantom. If anything, the script Phantom makes a lot of sense within its own fictional constraints. Any attempts to inject contrived "happiness" into it would have boded poorly for the story in all respects.

You're exactly right in pointing out that Phantoms are the ideal executioners, epitome of the killing arts. As Phantoms, they are invincible. However, once one crosses the threshold to become Phantom one cannot revert to a "normal" human lifestyle, a thematic concept that the series continual reminds us of. Thus, only as Phantoms can Elen and Reiji survive, the moment they truly relinquish their role as Phantom (by accomplishing their dream to return to normalcy, ironically), their place in the world disappears. In other words, phantoms can only live as phantoms. One cannot be both a phantom and a human being. Attempts by phantoms to become human beings can only end in tragedy.

The conclusion makes perfect sense when examined in this fashion.

Cal could have easily killed Reiji during their first encounter after they tracked them down but instead preferred to play around. Inferno was able to track them down so it wouldn't be hard to do it a second time especially since we know that they were digging into Elen's past to track down her home. This is most likely information that Inferno already knows or could much more easily find out so having people watching out for them to setup a hit isn't far-fetched.

A unhappy ending more fits the shows, that's not to say I wouldn't have enjoyed a happy ending but I don't think it would have made as much of an impact on me if it had been one. I truly enjoyed the ending. I thought it was well put together with the music, scenery and imagery. I think if people get over the fact that the characters died they'll see how beautiful of a death scene if was. It happens especially in this type of genre.

It took Inferno two years to track them down the first time. And how would they know they were looking for Elen's home? Besides, from what I recall on Scythe knew her home and he didn't leave any trace of it.

They will be of course asking questions and digging into Scythe Master past and business. They will be 100x easier to find than when they were hiding under false identities only attending school. Asking questions exposes them to that information getting back to Inferno. If he Scythe Master didn't leave any trace then how was if even possible for Elen and Reiji to find it in the first place??? You'd think the worldwide criminal organization would have the upper hand here. You're just grasping at straws trying to find some reason to condemn the ending cause you wanted a happy one.

You failed to even acknowledge why Inferno would suspect Reiji and Elen of looking into Elen's past. After all, they've just spent two years going to school, so why would they suddenly expect this? It's not like as soon as Reiji and Elen get information from someone, that person goes running to Inferno, and that's the only way they could take them out so quickly.

Please. It took them two years to find them last time, yet they're able to instantly track them down now? It seems as if you're the one living in denial, believing Inferno to be all powerful. However, when there's obviously faulty logic presented (which this ending has loads of), I can't just drink the kool-aid as easily as you.
