As far as animes go, this is not only one of the most entertaining shows I've had the pleasure of watching but it's also one of the highest quality shows I've seen. It even gets the pleasure of being my first decent signature.

According to the AnimeSuki thread on DVD/BD sales it seems to be doing fairly well for a modern anime: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthre...92#post3958392

Here, a bit better, the number at the end is BD+DVD sales. Total for the first week of sales, total for first two weeks of sales, total for now and the BD+DVD total. (I think that's right)

It is on a list of top selling TV anime since 1979. Its in 23 place in average sales and the average seems to be going up as the TV episodes come out and they get a second wave of sales.
It is expected that the show will get a third wave of sale once it completes since I've hears a bunch of people say they are waiting until it is finished before they get it (some because they are afraid they might mess it all up in the end. Others because they want either a box set, or to pay the least amount on shipping for the seven BD together).

Traditionally in Japan, Box Sets aren't released until after all of the first and second-issue pressings are long gone. While TBS is offering a Special, limited Box Set, as a website special (that comes with the already available BDs), it's not going to be for sale on the commercial market. At least, as far as I'm aware, Bandai Visual has no current plans for such as commercial release at present.
UPDATE ON LIMITED EDITION THEATER EXCLUSIVE BLU-RAYS OF VOL. 6 (according to the "Yamato: 2199" Twitter feed, updated 6:20 pm, PDT): There are still some available at Namba Park, Kokoe Amagasaki, Shinjuku Piccadilly. Miyoshi is dangerously low. Hashimoto, Saitama, Sendai, and Osaka are sold out. All other theaters were all sold out as of yesterday (that's twelve theaters out of sixteen).

I wanted to collect all the theater editions, and I figured they would be found around the used shops like many other things. But I only found the first theater edition at a used shop since they had sold out at the Shinkuki Piccadilly by the time I got to the first showing.
Earlier this year, I still did not find any used theater editions when roaming the shops. I'll check again if there are any there when I hit TGS later this year. |

This arrived in the mail today... and I already watched the whole thing! There's so much good stuff and the Rainbow Cluster battle is fan-frakking-tastic! This just keeps getting better and better, but they can sabotage the whole thing if they drop the ball on the ending... Please, please, please don't screw up the last four episodes!

They could screw it up, but I'm sure they know as well as anyone what could be if they keep the pieces in their places at the end. They just need to fill in the rough spots to fix the more...interesting plot holes that arose once it was decided to continue the series and they made more Yamato in the late 1970s and 1980s.
The benefits of having massive fans in charge of a project. Fans that actually had a hand in those later series. They know how things happened the first time around, and they know there is potental for a market in sequels. Be they newly remade sequels, new sequels, or even just the orginal sequels. The parts still have to mesh. Or mesh enough to still make sense. Though fans can also mess things up, these are professionals. And they have a budget. It will be known come the end of August if they did it or not.

I have faith with Xebec that they won't ruin the ending. They've gone this far and the episodes were progressively better each chapter. I won't expect the ending will be mind-blowingly awesome but I believe it will have a fulfilling closure worthy of the name Yamato. |

I've been seeing some pixiv images of another crewmember of Yamato. A girl with a ponytail in a science uniform that seems to have a Warrent Officer's rank. I think I saw her in the background at least once.

I know Niimi is detained in the ship's brig but I hope this does not imply something bad will happen to her in Chapter 6. She my second favorite girl in the show next to Yuki and I would really hate it if she was a casualty of war.

Most of us still haven't see it, so we don't have enough knowledge to provide a competent summary. Only a few here saw it in the theater and only a few more have the Limited Edition BD because they have people in Japan willing to go to the theater to purchase one for them.
Or sometimes find bits and pieces people have uploaded. The majority won't know much else until Bandai Channel starts streaming the film version in lower quality a few weeks before the BD and DVDs come out at the end of July. Inevitable it will showup online someplace. Nearly all anime does. Quality is iffy at that point.
