First of all it sold pretty well for Compile Heart. Second, it is relatively popular. Third, they're using to cross promote a couple games of the franchise that are coming out in these months (one already out), as well as trying to get new audience in.
IF (CH's parent company) did similar things with Hakuoki, but I don't remember people making the same claims...

because most of the time people don't by games based on reviews because reviewers are incredibly biased, and also if you want to know how popular the franchise was the third game limited edition was sold out in the US before the game was even out with people still preordering the standard

The game has a huge fanbase (which was said by other people in this thread)and the game sales were pretty high (for a niche title)

Dengeki published an interview with the cast last week, that sadly was taken before the incident so it doesn't represent the current state of affairs. But it's still an interesting insight on certain thoughts about the cast, also on the way of dubbing characters like Neptune or Noire. For people who can understand Japanese, it's an interesting read.

First ep is great. Especially for those who played the games. Nep Nep is right, more Ge-Ge's pictures on the net would help the share so much. Also, god bless the dogoos!

Spoiler for Episode 1:

I really enjoyed this anime and since it contain an original story, it could turn out to be one of the best moe/fanservice shows summer has to offer. The character designs by Tsunako are really great and have awesome aesthetics, the way Purple Heart kill the monsters are covered with diamond-shaped pixels as if we're trapped in a world of console and video games. The character interactions are classy to watch, and Neptune is such a shining and energetic heroine, the other heroines have a lot of potential to develop. The music was rather fitting and there's a lot of good tracks to listen, the theme songs are very stylish and it looks like the story might go somewhere along the lines of Vivid Red Operation though Neptunia could turn out to be better than that. Will look forward to watch the next episode.
