Wasn't the blu ray supposed to come out today?

I have heard no word yet anywhere on it. I thought I recalled hearing blu ray 1 was sep 25. Or am I wrong?

It did. If I read the sale level correctly, it sold day one 5,400 blurays (no DVD count that I could find yet).

Is that good?

It always seems like series like these sell just pathetic numbers, but they end up being considered good.

I like seeing video game sales, so its hard for me to see anything less than 500,000 as being good, cause in that industry that is what it seems to take these days.

To put it into perspective, 5-digits (10k+) is considered a huge success, with blockbusters like Madoka and Bakemonogatari getting around 80k. Only things like Evangelion break 6-digits.

Generally, anything above 4k is considered a success, but there's no hard and true number to go by. Especially since some take into account how much it impacts the sale of the source material.

Well if those numbers are true i don't expect a 3 season .
Unless the novels sales gone up or the merchandise selling great that's it for the anime .
Which is sad since they got so much more awesome stuff to come .

Please no anime original story, i'll take 1 cour over an anime original.

Edit: I don't think the sales of the novels and sales of the anime are related.

Season 1 volume 2 (couldn't find week 1 numbers for volume 1 without spending an asinine amount of time on it) was only like 6,800 copies. It's about a 20% drop, but that's expected with sequels. Heck, this may be in line with later volumes of season 1 as it is, which would mean not much of a drop at all.

Looking only at series from this season, this is projected to be a top seller. Not counting Free!, since it's blowing everything else out of the water, it's neck and neck (if not ahead) of other releases so far this season.

Plus it's only the 1st day. Let's wait a week and see how many is sold by then. If it's doing this well on the 1st day then it's pretty much guaranteed if the rest of the discs sell as well that there will be a season 3.

If it has the same trend as season 1, it'll get about 50% more sales by the time the next volume comes out.

DxD season 1 did BD 6780/ DVD 2341 first week .
So it drop a fair a amount on the BD side and i expect the same for the DVD side .
Plus Vol 1 normally has the best sales so expect a drop for the next vol .
Also season 1 help novels sales which are always a plus if your looking for second season and i don't think season 2 help with that either .
So things very much against it getting a 3rd season even if i hoping for one .

EDIT guess we will get better idea after the first week but still i not expecting much .

A 20% drop isn't that much, especially when we haven't looked at volume 5/6 of season 1 to compare (since like you said, sales usually drop on later volumes, and you could look at this as volume 7 in a sense). Despite that, it's still a commercial success, as well as being one of the highest selling shows of the season. I'd say there's a pretty good shot at another season. Especially when you consider the series did well enough that they released two OVAs before this season even started.

remember guys this is still only 1 day.

5,400 one day. I imagine it should at least reach 7,000 by end of week.

Anything above 4000 is good. If it fell below that number then you could start saying season 3 may not happen. There's always that chance season 3 may not happen but to me it's looking like there's a bigger chance that it will get green lit. In the end it's about how the whole season sells overall wether then just the individual volumes.

The novel sales are in the top 20, the show does decent ratings and the blu-ray and dvd sales plus the toys sell pretty well. Season 3 isn't completely in the bag but it has a higher chance then most. Plus the next volumes the story REALLY picks up so I'm hoping the execs are willing to give it another go.

Oh, 1 point doesn't equal 1 sale? Interesting.
