I didn't really think it was all that complicated, but maybe it was too much for a light novel? I can see how it would be a pain to translate though.

The terminologies are fairly difficult to understand. ANd everytime they give it, it's in the form of a large paragraph. It's a nuisance.

You need to create an account and post at least once before you can see the summaries at jcafe

Hey be positive. From what we remember before, Index was treated as such before. Even read that it was a translator's nightmare. For all the wordy stuff or technical aspect and such. Give it some time and hope that some dedicated translators would come... etc... etc...

It's a little difficult to explain, but there's a slight difference between the two. Index uses more complex terminology/vocabulary, whereas with this series, it's more the explanations as a whole that are highly convoluted.

...that and Index often gives crackpot explanations that make you wave your hand, roll your eyes, and say "whatever" to, while Mahouka, on the other hand, actually has halfway sane descriptions for the technical workings of its magic that you want to (foolishly) try and understand.

Look it's Magitech right? There's a ton of other series that uses Magitech, heck there's probably more Magitech now than there are fantasy magic or occult magic, so even without details you more or less know what you're getting yourself into.

On the other hand Index uses occult magic, which involves a ton of real world references with symbolism, and when there is real world reference it's slightly bit easier than when you work with something like Shana that has it's own system and terminology and words that doesn't mean what it originally means... Or At least, that's what one of the Index translator said to me.

What darthfanta and Hiyohiyo said are in agreement with my thoughts. For example, they keep using a word which is less meaningful in the real world then in the setting itself, and I have to do a word search in my brain to bring up my recollection of a ton of information as to what the word actually meant in the setting (because it does not get explained again to save space LOL). A random example at the top of my mind is the word 'phenomena' (among others, which I have snipped as the list starts to get long). These words (where a ton of info is connected to them) then get used like 'something you do before breakfast everyday (using the author's description LOL)', causing my brain to overload every now and then. Of course, if you don't care about these details, then it won't matter. But anyway, after a few brain racking wrecking moments over a few volumes and several re-reads and making some notes, I managed to get used to it.

Volume 5 is a bunch of Short Stories.

About the beach, Tatsuya's & Miyuki's shopping, and New Student Council President election we already got the summaries. Another stories are about Crimson Prince & Cardinal, about Amy. Oh, and about Morisaki which I don't really give a damn.

I want to know more about Amy! Why do they have to ban international marriage during that timeline? We won't see many more foreign girls like Lina!

I don't believe they've banned international marriages so much as they've effectively stopped all travel to outside countries. This is because Magicians that move away take their genes with them, which is essentially military power. That's not something I've thought through, there is a line in one of these web arcs that specifically states Genes = Military Power.

In all technicality, marriage with foreigners is actually encouraged, since often times, the foreigners bring good powers with them. This was especially true in previous generations, though I believe Tatsuya's family is purely Japanese.

I don't think it is banned. Japan would surely welcome a powerful foreign magician settling down and starting a family in Japan, but would dislike the thought of powerful magicians leaving Japan and settle down in a foreign country.

Basically it has something to do with the number of capable magicians in and outside of Japan; if Japan has less than another country (e.g. China, enemy nation in the novel), they run the risk of being attacked and magically overwhelmed, as magic is an important military asset.

That is how I understand it so far.

Oh nooos, with the one child policy in China and low birthdate of Japan, India will soon rise up and dominate the world with huge amount of magicians </sarcasm>

Message is don't think too deeply about the setting. It's a LN afterall.
