SOTM 2008 - May (Despair/Sorrow) - Entry Phase

You post an entry if you want it critiqued. For example, since you put your signatures up, it's telling all of us that you want us to look at it and comment on it so you can make it better if you so choose. The final is after it goes through critiques and such.

It doesn't matter if you don't want us to critique it.

Also, you can ask questions. They're not that strict, after all.

Edit: Just to warn you, you might not be able to vote since your join date is in May. You have to have a certain period of time inbetween registration and voting before your vote is counted. It's so people don't create fake accounts and cheat.

I think you can enter though.

Hey, it only would take me a couple minutes to have 5-10 accounts set up, and then I can wait a month or something and start voting. Almost no effort.

Of course, their post counts being 0-3 would be amusing though.

I think you can enter though.

Anyone can enter, regardless of join date. You can't vote if your account was registered a week before the voting begins, unless your account has an entry in the contest. From the rules:

6. To cut down on any potential cheating, any accounts registered a week before, and up through, the voting period are not eligible to vote. The exception to this rule is any account with an entry in the contest. *I reserve the right to reject votes if I deem any account suspicious.*

Well, it has actually happened a couple of times. >_< !

At the very least, I can remember two (now old) incidents were people tried to cheat using multiple accounts.

Multiple accounts are against *forum* rules, and believe me the site staff keeps track of that information. You'd really have to put some effort into trying to get around the rules...and I question if the effort would really be worth it.

Anyway. Ledgem is correct. I don't prevent anyone who wishes to compete from entering, regardless of when they joined. However, I do restrict people who have *not* entered the contest from voting if they are relatively new to the forums. As long as you have submitted an entry, or you are registered with the forums before the date specified in the voting thread, you can vote. No such restriction applies to people who want to enter the contest as a signature maker though.

And yes, I do have suspicious accounts checked out.

Trying to get back into the groove after not using Photoshop for awhile. >_<

So here's what I got so far, I have few issues with this I think it's too bright, the render doesn't really blend in nicely, and well I think it doesn't feel like despair or sorrow.

Screw my first version
I know that it is still pretty bad but I am trying to aim for ice and it's kinda difficult for me because of I lack skill. Any advice what I should do to fix it? Or should I just redo the whole thing?

The original's have snowy BG.. if you can have a more closed up face to make her tears would be better IMHO

Hm, this reminds me of a sig I did from a tutorial with that style:

I like the black/white background and selected colored C4Ds, but I don't know if I get enough "sorrow" or "despair" from it. You'd have to know the character, and I do, but others may not and it doesn't communicate it well enough to them. But that's just my opinion

The tears vanished a bit too suddenly at the end.. Also, its kinda too too strong for a tears. Maybe lower the opacity, or move her closer to screen.

2 Kickhopper.. the original face angle are more sorrowfull IMHO. Now its just a blank stare.

It's a well put together signature, but I don't think it is very sad. The character is, but the signature is not.

Way too empty. I agree with KiNa's points as well. I see the icy/snow theme, but it's overwhelming the render which is already difficult to see.

Peaceful, but not sad. Again, it's a tragic character, but the signature doesn't present that feeling at all. The background is very empty, the render could be focused on more by increasing the size to fill up more space. The animation is a little unrealistic and hard to see. And "yourselve" is spelled incorrectly (should be yourself).
