Accel World - Anime General Discussion

This is really a great show. So smart the way it handles everything. If only I was able to cable in school when I was growing up!

I agree with this a hundred percent. Haru is down on himself, a lot, and to us it may seem overboard but I personally can relate to Haru's feelings. Sometimes you need someone to recognize the person you are that you can't see yourself.

This is why I find Haru's super-deformed design so important to the story. Reading so many comments about him, and watching his own actions in the story, he is revolting. He's not cool, physically attractive or appealing, and everything he is and does represents a stepping stool for someone else. He's a loser, in every way. Why should an attractive girl who has everything desire such a person? That's not how other fantasy stories work, so why should it apply here?

Or so the anger goes. It's not that he is so out of character with the rest of the cast, it's the cast that is out of character with him. They're good looking, cute, athletic, and otherwise perfect in every way. Hell even the delinquents looked like they could do some modeling if they cleaned up. The world is representative of the artificiality of so many fantasy stories, especially in anime, where people struggle with problems despite the fact that they have so much going for them. Here, you have a world of gifted people and one guy who sucks at nearly everything. The reality is that it is all artificial, it's all an illusion.

Haru represents reality. The reality is that most of us aren't supermodels, with great status or fortune in life. We're not even close to perfect, and we don't live in quaint little worlds where things always work out for the best. The childhood friend isn't the one declaring her love for the lead, the boyfriend turns out to be a jerk, the hot girl actually has good reason to like the lead and doesn't need to be won over in a contest of manly showmanship, and the lead himself has all sorts of self esteem issues he has to work through by realizing the cards he's been dealt aren't as bad as he thinks.

In the end this is just an anime and I am probably over analyzing things, but compared to so many anime heroes who pretend they got it bad when they really don't, who pretend the world is a chore and boring even when they are handed amazing things on a platter, Haru is a breath of fresh air.

Should every hero be like Haru? No. But Haru is memorable, to me at least, for standing out among the crowd of undeserving anime heroes who've got it made, and rarely seem to care....or even learn to appreciate it.

That confession was kinda out of the blue though.
I couldn't believe she would actually sacrifice herself to save Haru.
Taku is the enemy? But why? Guess we'll find out next time!

Ok - I will admit it. I was actually kinda touched by the confession scene by Kuroyokuhime and by her saving Haru's life. The story thus far is becoming quite engaging and is well written to boot. Very nice.

This one is officially a keeper, and (I will repeat it again) prolly my biggest surprise of the season.

This show just isn't my cup of tea, that's all. I really loathed the plot twist that Haru's friend was the guy hunting Kuro because that usually leads to reveals that the perfect friend wasn't so perfect, and I just call bullshit on that (not sure if that's what actually happens though). Haru himself hasn't given me a reason to like him either. Also, the exposition is terrible in this show. If you like the kind of story this show has, then it's alright.

Nah, there are many show I have an eye on this season waiting them to end to watch them in a row and others that I follow each week, Accel World is one of those few.

Haru... may be whiny and annoying... but he's got a brain and the ability to use it, which is more than I can say about most anime protagonists. It's just that his perception is extremely skewed when it comes to himself - a lot of people are like that, in various ways, making it easy to identify with him.

From what I remember about them stating the whole process, when they brain burst, the brain moves quickly. Hence, the world around moves slower. It seems that what she did was shiver, which created mini quick movements from her body.

So while I find Kuroyuki's movement possible, what I thought that was not possible was for Haru to be moved out of the way that quickly. He just fell over quickly when she pushed him, which he should have fallen much slower or not at all. Furthermore, if she was able to completely push him to a safe spot, then she herself should have been at that safe spot.

Anyway, this is over-analyzing things, which I think I should just enjoy the ride.

Avatars can be of any color (depending on what they are best at) and it just so happens that the last one to reach level 9 was also red.

Solace I agree Haru a breath of fresh air when you compare him to about 90% of all the other male leads out there.

When he says the world has taken a dumb on his head he means it and his new found gifts he doesn't curse them or take them for granted he puts him to good uses.

Your right that they had an individual name and there are no 2 name which had the same characteristics or 2 name which is the same. So wait for it that's all I can say.

The ability to accelerate your body too will also bring excess pain to it because your moving beyond what your body can handle. So maybe it can only do was to manage to push him away. KYH is a normal girl. She is not your super girl that has great strength to endure that long acceleration. x1000 on accelerated moves. Even if you increase your body reflex and moves by just x 30. Your body would be already suffering some damage on it.
