And this is EXACTLY the reason why I was hoping that Apollo would be the star of the next sequel. AJ's plot was still heavily centered around Phoenix even though he was technically supposed to be taking a backseat for the new generation. I mean, don't get me wrong, while I'm glad to see Nick again (and yes, I'm also loving that new suit), it still would have been cooler if there were more focus on the next generation of lawyers, IMO. Heck, if even Danganronpa's sequel can focus on an (almost) entirely new cast, then why not AA.....? Well, putting aside my rant for now, I am glad to learn that AA5 has been confirmed for localization. Now all we need is Layton vs. AA (as well as the long-overdue release of Investigations 2) and it'll be all gravy. |

Actually, speaking of Danganronpa, it would be all kinds of badass if that series and AA had a crossover. Everyone would look like cardboard cut-outs, the court battles would have crazy light gun-style objections and rhythm minigames, we'd get to formulate the whole picture of the crime through a comic, etc..... man, would that be sweet. Plus, I'd love to see the exchanges between characters like Naegi and Edgeworth, Nick and Togami, Larry and Hagakure, etc.... but the chances of such an epic crossover becoming a reality are pretty low for the moment, sadly.....

Subbed Tokyo Game Show trailer showcasing some actual gameplay which seems to utilize characters' emotional spikes to spot where to pressure their testimonies:
Phoenix's new partner's Japanese name is Kidzuki Konoe. (It'll likely be changed in the localization.) She's apparently an apprentice of Phoenix's law firm and aspires to become an attorney, similar to Apollo. And there's a mysterious silhouette at the end of the video of another character. I wonder who it could be?

Though I'll miss the old sprites and such, the models and reactions look pretty good to me~
The silhoutte at the end doesn't exactly reminds me of anyone... though it COULD be a new villian. Thouuuuugh... appearances do change, so can't wait to see who it is~

Eye bandage, bandaged hands/arms and a jacket? Bad@ss. Seems like he got into serious trouble/conflicts. The jacket seems somewhat military-alike, due to the one star on the shoulder region of it (but could also be just decoration )

Seems like the gimmick this time around is called "Heart Scope", and it's not something Phoenix can do himself, but rather it's an ability his disciple Kokone can do.
While it's only shown to be used in trials at the moment, it could possibly be used in the investigation portions of the game as well. Personally I'd like to see Phoenix's psyche-lock abilities return again too and get some depth on those black ones that appeared in Apollo Justice. Those were so mysterious I'd like to know more about them.

I'm pretty sure a black Psyche-Lock is just meant to represent a secret so well-guarded that Phoenix would never be able to bring it forth in his lifetime. Hell, even when you cornered the person who had them in the courtroom, they still never admitted to anything.
Otherwise yeah, I agree, the Psyche-Locks did add a lot to the investigation phase and I was pretty bummed out they were taken out and not replaced with anything for Ace Attorney 4. I'd also be okay with the Psyche-Locks being left out if you can use the Heart Scope in the investigation phase instead. In other news, Apollo is awesome. I'm guessing he'll be a witness in the first case and a supporting character in the future cases.

Huh, kinda surprised nobody posted this yet:
So we now know it's coming out in the West..... as a download-only title. Well, better that way than not being released at all, I say. But I guess this means the same fate awaits Layton vs. Ace Attorney and Investigations 2 if either title manages to see the light of day outside Japan.... |
