Valkyria Chronicles generic discussion

Indeed there were many cliche moments that now that I look back on them I laugh. Despite that I still love the game.

Something can be cliched without being stupid.

Alicia going berserk every time she uses her powers, coming one step closer to death every time she uses her powers, having her powers sealed until emotion draws them out, the enemy having some kind of weapon against her powers, or not knowing how to activate them with no readily available source to explain how are examples of cliches that are easy to buy and would do a good job at reasonably justifying them not being used, and each of these would have been easy to implement.

Not using them when they're readily available and have no real drawbacks because of some philosophical crap when there's lives on the line is ridiculous.

And it didn't work. I was rolling my eyes during the whole last few chapters of the game.

I think what you guys are forgetting about Alicia is what Welkin said to Faldio in Varrot's office.

Given the unstable political climate and Gallia's strategic position and not to mention their Ragnite deposits. Welkin doesn't want to use Alicia's power since that will make Gallia a force to be reckoned with; a threat to both the Alliance and the Empire.

It will only escalate the conflict causing the Empire to send in more regular troops - Maximillian was but one small part of the Imperial Military Machine - to crush the Gallians.

But seeing how upset Alicia was when the Gallian troops begged her to save Gallia, I don't blame Welkin for insisting she doesn't "stoke her life flame" to destroy the Marmota.

Alicia said it howself, "How do you respond to that? What sort of life can I live from now on?" Can't you feel her pain? I know Welkin could and I understand his reasoning. In his situation I probably would have made the same decision especially if you're in love with that person.

You can say that the loss of just one life is preferable to two or a thousand or such but what happens after that? What happens when the next war comes around and another enemy invades?

Valkyria don't exactly grow on trees so they may not find another Valkyria who could do such an act or is even willing to do something like that.

If you achieve victory with your own two hands what's stopping you from doing it again when another war comes? One of the theme's in the game is practically handed to you on a plate at the start of the game. "The story of how a small nation bested a Giant."

Regardless I love the game to pieces, I'm just pissed off my PS3 and TV are packed away at the moment until the new games room is completed.

Completion date October-Christmas.

It worked for me. And while I usually scrutinize plots while I play, overall I enjoyed it, despite its shortcomings (only the Faldio part in the end irked me). I was hoping for an adaptation like the Tears to Tiara anime in April, but I guess that won't be the case. What a shame.
Since they haven't shown Largo or Rosie yet I guess those two will play a limited part in the story, unless something changes.

There was a web article which was written that Largo and Rosie's VA change the other day (it was already deleted). If that article is real, it has the possibility that they are changed into small roles.

That was actually another thing that made me roll my eyes. So utterly creaming them with a Valkyrur is bad, but defeating a Valkyrur and a doomsday weapon without one doesn't register them as a threat? Uhm... what?

I actually found myself wondering why she didn't just tear the tank to shreds with her lance rather then blow herself up. She has a weapon that can pierce the Marmota, with a bit of effort she could have destroyed the tank without having to blow herself up.

Yes, I can feel her pain. Of course, by that same count I can ask you, can you feel the pain of the family of the soldiers that were killed because Welkin wanted to do this his own way?

Don't get me wrong, I understand Welkin's reasoning, he just wants to protect the girl he loves. I just don't agree with either his or Alicia's decision.

Alicia could have destroyed the Marmota with her own hands, bringing an end to the war quickly and with the least amount of sacrifices. Not even Alicia herself would have to sacrifice herself, as long as she just destroys the tank with her lance rather then her body. After that, she can just return to her own life. It wasn't like she had any problems with that anyway.

Of course, I also am heavily biased because I think Valkyria Alicia rocks, and was looking forward to a level in which I could field her myself, so I found myself yelling at the screen "No you idiot! I want to rampage through that thing with Alicia!"

Think of it in today's standards. What's more threatening or likely to garner the largest scale retaliation if put to practice; a nation with a large military force or a nation with a nuclear arsenal?

For me, just thinking of using a Valkyria as a weapon to throw an invading enemy out of your country just brings a political shit storm to mind.

Well from what I can recall from the game Selvaria could destroy the Edelweiss and Shamrock with one or two hits in Chapter 12 but think of her weapon along the same terms of power as a AT Lance or an AT shell. Where it takes three/four high tech rounds to destroy a Heavy/Medium tank head on.

With the We saw that AT rounds just bounced off the Marmota's hull and I'd imagine even a Valkyria's lance would not penetrate it's armour easily if at all. Alicia sacrificed her lance when she threw it to create a hole, so such power isn't available on a whim all time.

It's all hypothetical of what I could gather from the game's feel of weaponry and armour.

Regardless each to his own, mate. I love seeing and exchanging opinions on these sorts of things.

One thing we can all agree it's one damn good game so let's leave it at that, eh? =D

From the game, Ohtsuka Chikao voices Gregor and Ohtsuka Akio voices Jaeger, both generals under Lelou... Maximillian's command. Atsuko Tanaka voices Eleanor Varrot, who is Welkin's and Faldio's superior. The remaining two seiyuu, Minakawa Junko and Nomura Kenji did not voice any of the main characters.

If prior to a war, then a Valkyria.

However, when I receive a report that tells me my entire army was laid to waste by a countries civilian militia then I'd list that country as my number 1 threat. Being defeated by a Valkyria is expected, though it would still spike them as my number 1 threat anyway. Being defeated by a countries civilians will mean that they are filled with a great number of soldiers the empire cannot match. Such a threat needs to be eradicated before it joins up with any other country.

Oh, it's worse then that. I once had Alicia blowing up the Edelweiss, which was on the other side of the freaking level, hidden behind an armored building. I was thinking of being smart and driving the Edelweiss to a position to blow up the reinforcements. Didn't count on Alicia's beam being that destructive. >_<

And Alicia did show she was able to penetrate the tank. All she had to do then was walk inside and start rampaging.

There will be special stage for Valkyria at the Tokyo Int. Anime Fair 09. They plan to debut some kind of promo video, have some discussion with the staff and cast, and the girl who sings the opening, Himeka, will perform the opening live. Short 30min promo event. Expected guests are Yamamoto Yasutaka (Director), Inoue Marina (Alicia), Kuwashima Houko (Isara), Fukuyama Jun (Maximilian), and Ohara Sayaka (Selvaria).

- Valkyria Chronicles Advanced Screening (3/28)
They're going to be showing the first episode "somewhere in the 23 special districts of Tokyo". Plans are to show the first episode, then have a discussion period w/the cast and staff after. There'll be two sessions, max of 130 people per session. You can leave an application by 3/16, then there'll be a random draw to see who gets to go. Expected voice actor guests are Chiba Susumu (Welkin), Inoue Marina (Alicia), Kuwashima Houko (Isara), and Ohara Sayaka (Selvaria). Expected duration is 30min seating starting at noon, 1hr of showing and discussion, then a 30min break, then start up again for the second session.
