The Rinkai! project unveiling at mixi_anime's AnimeJapan booth announced on Saturday that an anime adaptation and a manga series has been green-lit. The project follows the competitive world of women's bicycle racing

The story centers on women's cycling which debuted in Japan shortly after World War II, but organized competitions folded after just 15 years and laid dormant for several decades. Then the Rinkai League launched to revive the sport.

Episode 1 thoughts:

Not impressed. So many characters. There's 5 girls who all share the "dream" of becoming pro cyclists, and they're all a bit too late age wise. Then there's the 3 pros from the actual race who make it their mission to promote the sport. Honestly, I would have liked it if the story focused on the pros and their mission to popularize the sport.

The cycling CGI looked terrible but everything else looked ok. I suppose honest and inspirational discussions happen at onsens, at least in anime onsens.

Will follow for a few episodes but will likely drop.

I was kind of intrigued about a CGDCCycling anime but its velodrome cycling and yeah the CGI is egregiously bad. I'm not sure how far I can make it.

Spoiler for first impressions:

The CG is horrible, but at least it isn't full CG and I couldn't care less about the sport, so it looking ugly itself isn't a big problem

After a great anime like Do It Yourself, I'm not too negatively biased over original cute-girls-do-stuff as much, but DIY was focused on entertaining the audience, while this one has another agenda of advertising the sport... and that prefecture thing that I don't care to search more information about, so I'm not too sure. It's some project this anime belongs to
However, there aren't that much anime today, so as a braindead watch, I guess it is okay?

The character design is so good, they even show Machiko muscle but it feel very silly
Will be better only 15 minutes anime and go directly to the races

Episode 2 thoughts

Definitely a better episode than the first. I really liked the realistic talk given by the older sister. Dreams and goals don't have to be flashy. There are ways to accomplish things that benefit society, one's livelihood and what she did in college and post college will help her family's business in the future. That was a nice touch that is rarely seen in anime.

So grandma and uncle were both former pro cyclists, and grandma has a secret monitor room, yet I found it funny she used a little phone to converse with the pro cyclists and not one of her million monitors!

They introduced a 6th girl in the mix, while I still don't really know the other 4 from episode 1. Hopefully I can keep track of all of them.

Geez, did they really need to make half of her body CG and half drawn when she was pedaling? That was actually kinda freaky

Picked up on account of not much else on Tuesdays. The character designs aren't too bad. It's actually better when they're not showing the biking if it's going to be this level of CG.
