Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)

Been hearing about this movie for a while now, the sequel to the Star Trek reboot movie. And now, we have a trailer:

You know, I initially totally expected them to segue from the first "reboot" movie into an entire new high-ish budget television series reusing all the props from the movie.. Can you imagine the hype?

Can't see the trailer at work, but will definitely check it out when I get home.

Outlook remains positive

Looks friggin awesome.
As an life-long Trekkie (I don't like the term Trekker) I've always loved the original cast of characters (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty...) and Abrahms is transforming Star Trek into something more like what the TOS was, a militiary SF rather than a space opera.
So I'm totally jazzed about this movie and can't wait to see it.

Which reminds me, anybody else here play STO?

It's technically free now, though if you want to advance quickly in it you do have to either spend time or cash.
Star Trek Online MMO.

Teaser definitely comes from the Nolan-inspired school of trailers (what with the sinister monologue and the bombastic music), and the poster is 100% inspired by "The Dark Knight"/"Returns". Still, I loved the first film and am majorly hyped for this film (Can't wait to find out who Cumberbatch really is ).

Japanese trailer is slightly longer and has a HUGE teaser at the end. Probably a red herring, but if you're any fan of Star Trek you know what I'm referencing. Also, that trailer narration was pure voice porn. I swore it was Patrick Stewart, but apparently it's not? Either way, great trailer.

I had serious reservations about the first movie (since I tend to dislike reboots), but JJ did great justice to the name and this one looks to be that juiced up on awesomesauce.

I never got the impression that TOS was any more a military SF than its successors (if that's what you meant). In fact, DS9, VOY, and ENT, at times, seemed more like a military SF to me.

Anyway, looking forward to this movie.

DS9 was all space drama, space drama, space drama .. then DEEP SPACE MILITARY .. then weird metaphysical stuff. Always with the metaphysical..

Only Star Trek II - VI were space military really. Military regs were followed only some of the time in TOS, depending on the writer. ("Wagon Train to the Stars", remember?)

That looks really promising and, yes, I think I have an idea on who M. Cumberbatch will impersonate.

The 2009 reboot was already epic itself and I can't wait to see where this will elevate to.

Teaser looks good. No idea what the plot is, other than Kirk facing down a bad guy, but I will definitely see this.

If you think this ruins the franchise then you've obviously missed the majority of the franchise .

Wow.

Bring it on, JJ. Bring on the awesomeness.

The way they won't actually show us the full shape or NCC-number of the Constitution-class that's shown coming out of the water in that trailer clearly means it's some kind of big reveal.

Well, I grew up watching the series with Captain Jean Luc Picard, so I really don’t have extensive knowledge on these Kirk, Spock, etc characters (aside from the movies). Still, I really enjoy the first J.J. outing (despite some plot holes) and love these characters a bit more than the ones in the actual first-gen movies.

So, I’m also hyped for the sequel. I hope this won’t be another Iron-Man 2 (or worse, Revenge of the Fallen).

Well, I never bothered with the TNG based movies. Some of the Star Trek movies in the 80's... I enjoyed those to some degree.

I did watch that... other Star Trek movie released a couple years ago. That one was retarded.

Original Star Trek reflected the Cold War era it was made in -- high ideals and a wish for peace but grounded in the "Teddy Roosevelt Great White Fleet" kind of militarism. The evolution to the TNG period makes sense but yeah, I'm excited about the reboot cast being together again (says the guy who was a fan of TOS the first time it aired in the late 1960s).

edit: Heh!!! Bawwwwwwwww!!! Bawwwwwww!!! The noise just won't die

Here I was hoping for some Rus- um, Klingons to show up and so on. But it seems more like its another disgrunted human (al la Khan), or maybe a Vulcan/Romulan.. again. Still looks cool, but I'm kinda getting over this style of trailer. So many thigns do the same these days.
