I must admit, this was far better than I thought it would be. The framing device makes this work in a way to actually lend itself to helping viewers figure out the plot.
It's basically set up as Tomoya telling Ushio the story of "how I met your mother" all the way up to when Ushio was born, with Ushio asking questions and Tomoya doing his best to answer them. But, after that point... Spoiler for Recap Episode:
In the end, this was a really effective recap episode and something I'm glad I watched, even if I didn't get an announcement of Little Busters! and/or Planetarian afterwards. 8/10. |

Judging purely from screencaps, the atmosphere and lack of Nagisa in the original animation scene is a good setting for a conclusion to the story for those who wish episodes 21, 22, and the end of 20 never happened. o_o

I thought it was great. It overall explained the general flow of the story really well and it made me remember a lot of things and get nostalgic all over again. The 50 episodes felt a LOT shorter looking back. Some good arrangement for the music too. I'll miss this show more than I though I would. Though I still liked the other Key shows in Air and Kanon too.

Actually it isn't that bad of an ending after all, considering how they used Tomoya telling his past to Ushio as a way of recap. IMO, it is certainly an excellent sendoff despite the lack of new frames and scenes.
Spoiler for spoiler:
Anyway, is it me or Kyou has got more scenes than the other girls in this recap? And is the piano version of Nagisa/Dango Daikazoku/Chiisana Tenohira in any of the albums?

You know, I've never really liked recap episodes since they seemed to be a waste of time, but I think I understand now what they're good for. By summarizing all the themes ever presented within the CLANNAD narrative over the better part of two years in one episode, it might well help people to see the overall narrative with a new outlook based on refreshed memories. Particularly for this case, the recap episode might well be the very thing needed to help many viewers come to terms with an ending they might not be entirely sold on. Kudos, it worked so much better as part of the TV broadcast, than it would have as a DVD-packaged OVA.
Still, since it's a recap, I'm not going to bother writing an article about it; I'd much rather spend my time on the final impressions writeup instead. 9/10. |

Well, this was a good way to stab you right in the heart to remind you that it is over.
Good way to bring nostalgia and love back for the characters at the end. I do wish they would've show Nagisa under the tree at the end. I still remember episode 1 in that scene where she was under the tree eating lunch and how pretty it was, the shadows of the leaves plastered over her. Recaps are fairly boring, though. It was a 7/10, like all recaps are, just plain boring. Though the series itself is phenomenal. Big review to come~

Meh. I've already stored away my Toradora and Clannad subs to make way on my hard drive for Spring 2009 shows. Too much of a hassle to recompile everything just for the sake of completion.
On that note, Munto's ending just left we with a big WTF so I'm tuning out of KyotoAni fanman mode until K-On! comes out.

It is as most people here have said, this recap was actually enjoyable to watch, mainly because it was crafted like a bedtime story that Tomoya tells Ushio about.
And like how people recall events when telling their story, they don't do so in a rigid chronological way which plague how recap episodes in other series are narrated and ended up being scorned. Instead, this recap has Tomoya narrate through "threads", like going from: meeting Nagisa -> gathering club members (brief introduction of said members) -> moving in with Nagisa -> graduating and working, etc. So this was actually a breath of fresh air compared to the other boring recap episodes I never would have bothered with in other series. (AIR being the main exception, which is also done by Key/Kyo-Ani) Of course, by structuring it as a bedtime story, there's the problem of how the "non-existent" events of episodes 17-21 could get explained. That got sorted out well by having Tomoya actually "remembering" these events "like a dream", and yet he believed he has experienced them, which he indeed has, but just couldn't figure out how. Note that during the monologue concerning episodes 17-21, Tomoya makes no mention of the Illusionary World. This makes sense, as IW-Ushio told the Robot (Tomoya) that when he returns to the Real World, he will have no memory of ever being in IW, so we only see Tomoya "waking up" from his "dream" and finding Nagisa alive and well. Wow, I'm actually singing praises for a recap episode. But seeing as this is a good way to wrap things up, plus the original footage near the end was a nice touch as well, it's a good way to see off the series. |

One things I was half right and half wrong about. If we take Episode 22 to be the END, then I was right in saying that Fuuko gets the last word. However with the additional footage from 24...Ushio gets the last word of this series. A rather fitting word to close it all out.

It's a shame that this series is finally over and it really did feel short on my end. It's like they say "all good things must come to an end." I enjoyed every moment of this recap episode because it reminded me of all the important moments in the series and at the same time they did a great job at explaining that gap where Nagisa was dead. I congratulate Key/KyoAni for bringing us such a beautiful anime and I hope that they make many more series that are just as good as Clannad/After Story.

For a recap episode this was surprisingly good. I liked how they made it a story told by Tomoya to Ushio. They summed up the last 40+ eps very nicely too. This recap also makes it easier to see the whole plot and how the individual arcs connected.
The bonus scene at the very end was a nice touch. It seems like it takes place directly after the end of ep 22. Fuko finds a sleeping Ushio (Nagisa and Tomoya brought her with them to have a picnic), they play a bit, Fuko falls asleep, and Tomoya tells Ushio a story (This ep). |

For a recap this was about the best I've seen. Still its a recap, its not as fun as watching events actually progressing. Also liked the scene at the very end because it really glued the ending together in my mind(if that makes any sense).
