How come Felicita has two tarot cards associated with her?
Still can't decide between Nova, Liberta, and Luca though. Normally it's easy who to ship for, but the amount of choices here... I guess I'll wait for the anime proper itself.

The animation is uninspiring but competent, but man, that writing. It's like none of the characters have ever heard of the Arcana before, the way they kept explaining it to each other. Just have a voice over at the beginning instead of making the characters look like idiots.

Well, after a cour of not having a series that I liked, the JC Staff I love so much is back! Certainly has left me a better impression of the other show I saw that starts this cour, Campione.
Now after seeing the first episode, Nova is a bit in the lead for my opinion. I dunno, but I LOVED his declaration that if he wins, he certainly won't marry Felicita. Which of course makes me want to root for him, because I just can imagine the drama if he wins but a) falls head over heels in love with her or b) if he is already in love with her, he just can't hold his feelings inside him any longer. Of course, that's still saying that Liberta and Luca aren't too far behind. Of all the people, they're the ones who has her wellbeing as their primary concern, though Liberta takes third because I can't say I particularly agree with his 'delusions'. (If anything, I'm more on Debito's side as I'm a BIG Zettai Ryouiki fan ) Which reminds me, I dunno, I think they should've switched Liberta and Nova's VAs. I think FukuJun does the stoic type better (not to mention everytime I see Nova I think of Yukio from AoExorcist for some reason), while Liberta is the closest thing in this series to Teiichi from Amnesia (and I dunno, but I liked Teiichi's VA in that role). And I don't care about what anyone else thinks of her, but Felicita is just so MOE <3 . No wonder every participant is thinking of Felicita's status as a bride, while none of them has power of papa as their primary motivation lol.

A serviceable introductory episode. A little too much information to take in all at once for a total newcomer like me. But I don't mind being a little confused at the start of a series. I got the most important parts, I think.

This new anime which was made after a visual novel has lots of potential.
(I'd love to play that VN someday ^^) In the meantime, I'm sure I'll be enjoying this anime. Usually, when they make anime after VN they end up kinda boring, which is disappointing, but I'm glad this one proved me wrong! It's about time the main heroine stopped being all helpless & obedient for a change. All the male characters looked pretty cool, but also knew how to relax. Arcana Duello sounds very promising. I'm anticipating lots of action ^^ After watching first episode I'm thrilled!!

First episode was enjoyable but, as someone who has no background of the otome game, I would have preferred to see Jolly and Luca as being the main characters (kind of surprised they aren't). Nova and Liberta are the typical types I don't prefer as much. But I guess maybe Luca and Jolly are a bit too older for her; that's why they chose Nova and Liberta?
Luca is an especially funny and lovable character (...and he reminds me of Raven/Gil from Pandora Hearts for some reason.)

^Yes, I really wished for Luca route (I wouldn't mind Debito with his glorious italian or sexy Jolly) since the manga gave me the impression of either Luca route or Felicitá ending up with nobody, but they didn't follow it.
If she is with Libertá I bet that people will rage and Nova... I didn't like his route But I'll stick to see how this turns out and for more baka-trio/Jolly moments.

Good start. Good characters. Decent animation. A good set-up for the rest of the story. All I knew was what previews have said about the plot, but nothing seemed particularly confusing.
And I thought Harada Hitomi (Himeji in Baka to Test) did a good job singing the OP. Not a sweet voice, but it worked. Fukuyama Jun and Yonaga Tsubasa had some uncertain moments, but made the ED work, too.

Not a bad episode. There is a good mix of action, drama and comedy. The first few minutes is highly enjoyable with the action and it's a good way of introducing the characters. I like Felicita because while she is headstrong, she also shows a more vulnerable side. Each character here is distinctly different. Jolly piques my interest the most because he seems to be the most enigmatic of the bunch. Yeah, I agree that Nova and Liberta are your typical characters. Wish there will be more of Jolly and Luca.
