確かに、「新世紀エヴァンゲリオン」も深夜の再放送からブレイクの波が高まり、
後の劇場版へと拍車をかけた。
「グレンラガン」を現在の再放送で見ている人にも、
今回の劇場版はうれしいニュースだろう。
そこで気になるのは劇場版の内容だが…。
「まず考えているのはTVシリーズの総集編的な内容です。
といっても、本編をまとめ直して終わらせるつもりはありません。
テーマは『再燃』。
覚悟を決めた今石監督が
『グレンラガンであってグレンラガンでないものを見せる！』
と言ってすごい企画を書いてきたんですが、
これはもちろんボツです。
とは言え、皆さんの予想とは大きく違う姿をお見せできればと思います」

こうして決定した劇場版に向け、意気軒昴なスタッフたち。
なんと現在は劇場版とは別の完全新作映像を制作中だ。
参加スタッフの名前は残念ながらまだ書けないが、
錚々たる顔ぶれであることだけは言っておこう。
東京国際アニメフェア2008でその一部が上映される。
「劇場版ではファンの皆さんをいい意味で裏切りたい。
アニメフェアではさらなるニュースをお伝えできると思うので、
ぜひ見にきてください」

Summary/translation of main points:

Takeda says that they were thinking of making a movie from the time the TV series started airing. After it aired, people were saying they wanted to see more, and they had confidence that this work could be handed down for 10 years like Eva. But when he talked about it to Imaishi while the TV series was still going, he was told "No way!"

So what is the movie about? They were first thinking of making it a summary of the TV series, but don't intend to just rearrange it and end it like that. The theme is "revival." Becoming resolved, Imaishi said "I'll show something that is and is not Gurren Lagann!" and began writing great plans, but of course they were turned down. Although, they want to show everyone something very different from what they'd expect.

Also, currently they're in the middle of working on a completely new production different from the movie. They can't reveal the names of the participating staff yet, but he can say that they are distinguished members. They will screen a portion of this at the Tokyo International Anime Fair. "With the movie, we want to betray everyone's expectations in a good way. We'll reveal even more news at the Anime Fair, so please come watch."

Definitely sounds like Garlock; alternate universe Gurren-Lagann where Simon charges Spiral Nemesis and the GDG head on? That would be awesome. The whole "betray expectations in a good way" sounds like the TV series, though. :| And it's debatable as to whether or not that's really a good thing.

A commercial for the movie announcement aired during the rebroadcast. No new info though.

But Ootsuka's post in the blog confirms that the movie will be a summary of the TV series. He says they hope to make something enjoyable for both people who watched it on TV and people who are seeing it for the first time.
