My goodness. What a great start of season 2. Gil having fun with Zerker and both of them looking powerful. An immortal monster is not immortal if it can be destroyed by any means, so it would seem this monster is not immortal, just extremely fast at regenerating.
Looking foward to more fate =).

Watched the OP again and I really love it. Gives me a sense of tragedy, idealism, and gravity. And the little bits of younger Kiritsugu are unexpected. I guess we'll see a bit more of his backstory but I can't guess when or how it will be included.

Wow. I was not expecting that. Figured we'd have a couple of episodes focused mostly on the battle against Caster, yet we quickly found ourselves with two more simultaneous battles taking place. The more the merrier though, especially when they're as flashy as Gilgamesh vs Berserker Round 2 and as dramatic as Tokiomi vs Kariya.
By the way, it was nice of Kiritsugu to first shoot Ryuunosuke in the belly so the latter would have time for a proper death scene and get some KUUUUURUU final words in before the end. And of course to top it all off it just had to end on a cliffhanger again (though after those 13 painful weeks of waiting for this episode, one week is nothing). Kiritsugu seemed to be enjoying the possibility of the chivalry which screwed him over in his duel against Kayneth coming back to bite Saber and Lancer in the ass. Can't say I blame him! Either way, I smell a resolution which will once again prove that "Being Lancer is suffering". Don't hold back, Urobuchi~ |

Good riddance to one of the most evil characters I've ever seen in a story. Ryuunosuke was a really interesting character, but he was a detestable enough person that I'm glad to see him die. Great opening and ending themes, too; I probably like the new opening song a bit more than the original, and the new ending a bit less.

It's weird that Kiritsugu shot Ryuunosuke in the gut. Maybe he wanted to see if Caster reacted and Ryuunosuke was really a master? Either that or he missed the chest because he was on a boat. I sympathized a bit with Ryuunosuke in the end. He was a great villain and so, so messed up. And Tokiomi..... I really wonder how much he knows about Matou Zouken and Sakura. |

Well... I guess we shouldn't complain IF the animation takes a nosedive after this, as I cannot imagine the amount of money they'd have spent on this episode alone, but a fitting one it is for the start of the second and final season.
Good riddance to Ryuunosuke.

I asked myself the same thing, but decided it didn't matter. If he loved Sakura even a little, then at the very least he wouldn't have given her up without doing a bit of research about what would happen to her if he did...and definitely not while spouting some crap about ancestral glory |

I love the new OP. You can never go wrong with Kalafina. The new ED is great as well. It's full of melancholia.
The episode itself was amazing. Berserkcar evolved into Berserjet. Who would have thought he would appear now of all times? At least he went after Gil (who was bored anyway) instead of fucking everything up by attacking Saber like last time. Gil's ship is so... alien-ish. Geez, is there anything he doesn't have in his treasure vault? At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out women from there. The Caster fight was a bit boring, since it was just Saber hacking tentacles over and over again. Ryunosuke's death scene was cool though. His death was surprisingly decent. He died with a peaceful smile on his face, something unusual for a villain like him. The most unexpected event of the episode was Tokiomi finally getting out of his basement. I loved his interaction with Gilgamesh, the master/servant relationship is completely reversed here. I'm looking forward to his battle with Kariya, and most of all, I'm looking forward to what Kotomine will do.

I think I'm getting a little annoyed by the pacing too. Too many things are being prolonged or put on the back burner that really shouldn't be. For example, I was getting excited when Kiritsugu mentioned ending the fight with Excalibur, but then he reminds me of the fact that Saber is inhibited by the dumb fucking cursed thumb plot armor bullshit that should have never happened in the first place. Every servant summoned in this series is a fucking monster and has all kinds of tricks up their sleeve. Why did they have to nerf the most straightforward fighter of them all? She's just getting her ass handed to her in every appearance.
I didn't feel any sense of tension or plot progression from this episode. Caster feels more like a distraction than a legitimate threat, and he's severely overstayed his welcome. Outside of Ryunosuke's assassination, nothing important really happened in this episode. But since his death didn't do shit to stop Caster, that didn't amount to much either much either. For me, this was simply the best anime episode of 2012 so far.
Truly glorious stuff, all around. Great action, great dialogue, great character moments, great personality conflicts, great unpredictability (at least for an anime only watcher like myself) - The full nine yards and then some. It's anime episodes like this one that remind me why I became an anime fan in the first place. The great visual flourishes and superbly scintillating style of anime episodes like this one is something you just don't see outside of anime, imo. And it did such a marvelous job of balancing all of the major characters to. Berserker vs. Gilgamesh in a Stealth Fighter-style dog fight*, Tohsaka vs. Kariya, Caster laughing maniacally after his Immortal Monster swallowed a fighter jet whole, the death scene in this episode, and the trio of Saber, Lancer, and Rider all against Caster, was all pure gold, much like Gilgamesh's armor and priceless facial expressions. Just non-stop drama and suspense done to the most fitting visuals imaginable. The new OP and ED are really good too. 10/10 for Fate/Zero Episode 14, the perfect BANG! to start off its 2nd cour with. *That in particular was a really pleasant surprise for me.
