From what I've seen, it doesn't seem to be very easy to convince girls to become magical girls, especially not if they get to know that the'll put their life on the line by doing it. So the contractors will probably take any girl who says she wants to become one, even if they already have a messed-up personality in the first place (as was probably the case with Kyouko).

Yes, it's very vulgar indeed. Here's what the www-jdic says about it:
くたばれ (exp) (X) (vulg) (ktb) fuck you!; shove it!; go to hell!; drop dead!

We're social and group creatures by nature, because the groups with the "banding together" instinct prospered more than the lone wolf types.

Five girls using just a little of their power to each help take down a witch, would ensure that each of them holds onto their magic powers 5 times as long. Given a statistical drop rate on Grief Seeds, it wouldn't seem to be too hard to store them and ration them out as needed so there is enough to go around. One MG can take down a witch with only a little trouble, apparently, so three or more MG's should make quick work of it. It shouldn't end up much different from an MMO guild that farms a boss over and over, heh.

Obviously, there will be power hungry MG's that don't want to share, but statistically speaking, there should be some people who are willing to team up.
Yes, that's all very true - working together, they would be much more effective. Mami did actually offer Homura to work together, but Homura declined
The only reason why she would decline, even though it would make bringing witches down much easier, is that she is one of those power hungry magical girls who don't want to share.
Kyouko, who wants to attack Sayaka, doesn't seem to be any better there.

Perhaps the number of girls willing to work together are few and fare between for example in this story the number of MGs in the general area of the city seems very slim so one would have to assume that not only is a MG running into another MG is rare but trying to get them to work with each other might me even more rare.

With Kyoko's color scheme, we have the 5 basic sentai series colors covered! Pink, black, red, yellow, and blue!

The word she uses is 'buttsubusu', not 'kutabare'. "Kutabaru" means "Die", you can't say you're going to kutabaru someone any more than you can say "I'm going to die you!" in English.

More study may be advisable before trying to correct people.

Keep in mind that Homura stated that she's seen many magical girls die before. This suggests that perhaps she's worked with other magical girls in the past before, but after witnessing so many of them die in spite of their team-up efforts, Homura now feels like it would be best if she operated alone.

I also wouldn't read too much into the personality of this latest magical girl. For all we know, a magical girl like her could be the exception, not the rule. For all we know, most could be like Mami: Wanting magical girl allies and friends.

If not every witches give a grief seed, then having too many magical girl in any one area could mean they get more and more darkness- whether that just make them weaker or turn them into witches too is unknown.

As I understood it, Kyouko only expanded her territory but I'm not sure now. Come to think of it, Kyouko seems like she was related to Mami. She wasn't near the scene so I wonder how she got the info that she died. Depending on how, it could mean that Madoka, Sayaka and Homura weren't the only ones at all that know that Mami died. Though to most it would only be "just another one that bit the grass" I guess.

Yeah its like a bunch of drug addicts in a room being asked to play poker. The winner gets 1 shot. The frequency of the poker game is irregular. The poker players could work together but who would get the shot?

Would those good at poker be willing to give the shot to others when the game is so irregular?

Keeping in mind they are all drug addicts

I wouldn't quite say that. Grief seeds can have more than one use, and thus you can share. Also, if it takes X amount of magic power to kill a witch, then 5 MG's working together can each use X/5 the power needed. And the seed it drops has 2X magic power, which is more than enough to keep them running, especially if they store them up, and dole them out to the MG's whose magical devices are beginning to get too dark. Yes, not every witch drops a seed, but since a seed can have more than one charge, then statistically speaking, there would be enough charges to go around.

Is Kyube deliberately recruiting MG's who are bad at math?

At the least, working together ensures that there is an MG who is available at all times to deal with a witch, and then collect the seed for the good of the group.

Edit: And are they really addicts? Sure, some might be addicted to the power... but what about an MG that decides not to kill witches. She takes a look at her device, sees it is getting dark, and then shrugs and decides not to do it anymore. What happens then? Possibly, their wish might get revoked, but depending on the wish, it might not be that bad. say if Kamijou dumps Sayaka, she could decide, "Fine, you weren't worth the wish in the first place. I'm quitting being a witch; good luck with your hand!"

Yeah, people seem to be getting confused. In episode 4, Kyoko says "Kutabatta" in regards to Mami's fate. When she says how she's going to deal with Sayaka she says "Butsubusu".

I'm wondering if when Mami stated this she meant literally "there is a chance they won't drop a seed." Or if this line was referring to the fact that familiar's don't drop seeds. In other words, you might not know until after you defeated it whether or not it was a witch or a familiar until you see a Grief seed, or not.

It seems that Shinbo's reputation wasn't that bad after all. Placing second in favourite director ranking by dengeki readers, who are much interested on media-mix than main-streams like Studio Ghibli etc.

I just started this series recently, and I already love how it messes with your mind .

Unfortunately, I got into the series after learning about the huge spoiler in Episode 3, and so I was pre-warned about the darkness of the show. But more than that, I found Kyuube massively creepy throughout all the episodes--the fact that he has an eternal grin painted on his face just makes him even creepier .

I hope the production crew manage to keep toeing the line between classic Magical Girl fare and this deconstruction eeriness, it's very effective in making this show something very different from the usual.
