well, the spoiler picture confirms it, not that I would keep it long because as the last post here for a while I have not the usual time to wait for confirmation,

Why not the possibility that Chao had been faking it all along, either giving a blank tree, OR setting some timer that makes the tree go blank?

My thoughts exactly. Outside of that one page that was shown (which was probably a fake page put there to make it appear as if the full family tree was indeed in there), it's possible that the Family Tree was nothing more than a blank book done to cause chaos among Negi's students. This could also explain why, outside of Akira, certain students were siding with Negi: they knew the truth that the book was a fake. After all:

-Chao was one of the girls who helped in the making of Chachamaru;
-Satsuki had close connections to Chao while she was Mahora;
-Nodoka could have possibly noticed the book being blank during the brief period of time she had it opened (with her telling Yue about it being blank).

What the heck does Chao gain from that? Also, why never to bring that up until now? I find that conclusion to be a huge leap in logic (caused by hopeful thinking?)

Of course, I myself am wondering if Ken Akamatsu had actually planned out this current arc ahead of time or if he's pretty much at a point where he has to make things up as he goes in order to get to certain items that he wanted to include into the story (with him being forced to revert back to his Love Hina days in terms of story writing).

Of course, if that's the case, there's the matter of figuring out what incident caused the future to change (which is also complicated).

If the future is changed so Chao never existed, then how do we explain the existence of Chao in affecting the past? It's the time paradox which makes things very confusing. Our theory actually lightens the mental load.

Yep, outside of Akira finally making a Pactio, it turns out that this storyline is nothing more than padding just to save up the good stuff until the milestone 350th chapter.

As usual, I really have a hard time handling "stall until the milestone chapter" storylines. However, whereas similar stories pad things out (Negi vs. Raken; Poyo), the main problem here is that you only had six chapters to cover this story, which results in a number of things being rushed. The end result (along with various other problems): a huge mess of a story.

Hmm...it looks like the best answer for Negi's family tree problem is that it was empty to begin with...but judging on how Hakase said it, there's still a chance that the future might really change. It's still quite strange though...if what made the future changed is how Negi and the others went to the magic world, that would mean in Chao's timeline, the magic world's situation doesn't change. Which means, it should be destroyed 10 years after the present...

......how do Chao and the others still survive on the barren land of Mars for hundred years in that kind of situation?

Still eva and satsuki were awesome And doesntz this chapter kinda imply that chao may not even exist in this timeline? Or maybe shell future trunks back into a different timeline at some point ?_?

Whatever, I think we shouldnt take this chapter to serious, its filler, next week is where its at =)
