Jokes aside, animation in this regard also consists of the quality of the drawing, the frames themselves. And at a couple of spots in Golden Time the drawing was downright terrible.

One of the things that struck me when watching this series with a friend of mine, was that it's the opposite of most "amnesia plots", and that might explain why a lot of people seem to have a problem with it.
I think, in most cases, Linda would be the heroine and Kouko her rival. A lot of the tension from "amnesia plots" tends to stem from the suffering of the person who hasn't lost their memories, as they watch their loved ones do things they wouldn't normally do, or fall in love with someone they happened to meet while in their memory-less state. Linda's personality is tailor made for that sort of narrative--passive and easily convinced that Banri's memories would just be a burden for the person he is now. In these cases, the amnesiac hero falls for the "wrong girl" while in this state, which would be Kouko. Usually, this woman is the polar opposite of the heroine, who just happens to be in the right place at the right time to enter the hero's life when he's vulnerable. Sometimes the story has a measure of sympathy for this person, but ultimately, their purpose in the story is to eventually fade out and allow the hero to resume his "real life" with his "true love". So, yeah, I like that Golden Time is exploring the flip side of what we usually get. I like that we're seeing it from the perspective of the "wrong girl" and that the tension in this case is in the terror that comes when your burgeoning relationship can be upended at a moment, and you can go to bed with the man you love one night and wake up the next day with a stranger who no longer loves you. I like that Kouko and Banri's relationship might not have years, like Linda and Banri had, but it's being presented as valid and something both people want to preserve, instead of something to be sacrificed on an altar of narrative convenience.

"Sacrificed on an altar of narrative convenience." I really liked that phrase. However...
That has to be the very definition of a love triangle. Someone will lose. Romantic comedy is in its essence setting up an altar to rip someone's heart out but the problem is who.

I am sure it will be the final volume because the anime will end at the end of March, which is just few weeks after vol 8's release date. This is the same thing that happened to Toradora. The first 12 episodes covered vol 1-4 so the remaining 12 episodes should cover vol 5-8.

These games are always "alternate universe" type of games where the protagonist's decisions can result in him ending up with different heroines (basically, the galge approach). So in this game, it will be possible for Banri to end up with any of the three main heroines, even if that wasn't likely to happen in the canon universe.

man this ghost really is annoying, someone call a exorcist or the ghostbusters or maybe the winchesters brothers to make this annoying cursing ghost vanish, why him just dont pass away and go to the light already, you are dead man, let the guy have a happy life.
he really started to make his move and start to be a burden between banri and koko, this annoying grudge really start to make me very angry at this point. |
