Well if you won't politick then I will: Show your support if you deem the show deserving!
Well anyway from my estimates the ranking is pretty close between Kou, Kuranosuke and Shizuo for best male lead. Aoba's being left in the dust by Yuki and Ika. The show's leading Sports (I think), SoL and Drama, close to Tatami Galaxy for Storyline, close to KmT for Romance. Not a bad standing so far. No complaints from me actually. If this were any other year those would also be my obvious choices for those categories.

The two categories I really care about are Overall Series and Male Lead. We were way ahead in the nominations, but I think you have to be a lot more passionate to nominate than to vote so a lot more casual viewers are voting now.
If we don't win the Sports category, I'll go re-watch School Days. That's how confident I am.

Anyhow, Cross Game should be a sure win for the sports category. I'm curious if Kou can win best male lead though. It seems Aoba is getting left in the dust unfortunately, but hopefully more people come and pick her up.

Yeah, the Sports category is in the bag, though personally, that's the one category where I prefer other contenders. An overall series win would be great, though.

I did a marathon run through Cross Game over the weekend, watching all 50 episodes. Really loved it, the slow but steady pace, the characters, the ending. I liked Tsukishima Aoba as an overall character more than Yuki Nagato but for the specific time during Disappearance I think I may vote for Yuki...Tough vote there. I'll think on that one a bit more. Maybe I'll have a epiphany like:
Spoiler for Ending:
I had this series sitting on my hard drive for months but finally started watching it and basically after episode 1 I was pretty hooked on watching all of it. Regret not watching it earlier. Also read a bit of the manga this week (wow Adachi likes breaking the 4th wall), which was also quite good. |

Is the series so good that her character would edge out Aoba in your eyes? It seems... improbable, to me. Mayhaps I need to actually watch that one.

Is the series as good as Cross Game? No - but Aoba was probably my third favorite character in CG and Ika Musume is pretty damn great. I had it in my top 10 for the year and found to be a very smart, irresistible and usually hilarious comedy.

I've looked out at the online retailers for more than 6 months after the end of the airing run, and I think it's safe to say that it probably never will get one. Definitely will keep on listening to the lead-up to the ED credits of episode 25 for a long while. That was a great piece of BGM. |

The results are in - and pretty great. We won the two biggies - Overall Series and Male Character - as well as "Sports", "Drama" and "Comedy". I don't know if any series has swept five awards before, but for a little low-budget Adachi adaptation 30 years after "Touch" that's pretty amazing.
It's really great to see this show - even in our sheltered little community - get so much respect. Maybe these awards will encourage even more people who "don't like sports anime" to go give it a chance.
