So you’re young ward… pardon my saying you don’t much seem the nurturing type how the hell did you end up with a kid?

“Hey no argument here, its funny how life works sometimes isn’t it? I didn’t really pick him though, as with most strays he kind of picked me. Anyway it all started when he was being held against his will by some low level mages, nothing epic or world shattering going on, just a simple extortion scheme buy some local thugs. I was hired to go rough the guys up and bring him back, finding them wasn’t that hard as these guys were not all that smart, looked like it was going to be a simple pay check for once.

So anyway I busted down a wall and started shooting was going fine until suddenly some nutter with a rank of AA+ and an Axe shows up and tries to added a couple new orifices to my face. Apparently my employers weren’t the only one’s that thought to hire muscle… in hindsight I should have considered that, but I was on the verge of missing my rent again so I needed the cash fast. Anyway I tried to run, that’s always my first choice when confronted by a near even opponent and I have no real advantage, fair fights at bad fights after all.

And you were just going to leave the kid with them?

“What it’s not like it was my kid, it was a me or him situation in my view, and I’ll always pick me over someone else.”

Very valorous of you.

“Heroes die young, us cowards get to retire.”

But I take it something went wrong?

“Yeah what went wrong is that the f***** was FAST.”

So what did you go?

“Well I prefer to keep my fights at a distance, less that can go wrong, more time to react, but he was faster then me and CC oriented so that wasn’t working for s***, mostly I just ran around the place barely avoiding ending up like Ann Bolin and cursing all the way.”

That must have been somewhat embarrassing.

“I’d rather be embarrassed then dead.”

Touché, so how did you beat him?

“Well he had me cornered and was charging up his super duper ultra pwning move or whatever and I figured I might as well go out with a bang so I was powering up mine, but it was taking a fraction of a second longer and he rushed me before I was finished, I thought I was screwed…”

And?

“He tripped.”

He tripped?

“Yup the entire place, and especially the floor, wasn’t exactly pristine by this point and the stupid bastard caught his foot in one of the holes he’d gouged in it with his own axe, fell flat on his face not 20 feet from me, my spell finished charging and I blasted his ass into next week.”

So basiclly instead of using some hidden strength, or unique skill, or sheer grit to triumph you got incredibly luckily.

“Hey sometimes it’s better to be lucky then good.”

True enough I suppose, but moving on with the story…

“So yeah I got the kid, and wasn’t that badly injured so despite the screw up I still thought I’d made out okay…”

I take it you didn’t?

“Things went down hill fast first the little bastard was annoying as all hell apparently he spent way to much time watching cartoons and playing video games as he kept spouting on and on about how awesome I was and was like so and so character from them and a hero of justice and all that nonsense. The awesome part was cool for about 5 minutes then it just got headache inducing.

“Then I find out the parents got whacked, apparently these guys decided after kidnapping the kid and having their demands refused that it would be easier to get what they wanted by just killing them. So someone cut the brake lines in their car and off they went careening down a hill to get T-boned by a Semi. It was on the news that morning, but like an idiot I was barely listening to it as I got ready for my raid, not sure what they had planned for the kid they might have let him go, might have killed him hard to say. Anyway so now the kid is positively screaming about how mama and daddy are dead, and he has no other relatives of note within a thousand light years in any direction…

“So you adopted him in an act of kindness?”

“What hell no, I flew him to the first orphanage I could find and dumped him on the doorstep, figured that as the end of that. I’d already gotten screwed out of my check I wasn’t gonna get stuck with a frikkin kid too boot!”

Heart warming… so what happened?

“He proved somewhat smarter then he looked, and I made a critical error in picking an orphanage within walking distance of my current residence, but I was in a hurry because my favorite TV show was coming on and I didn’t want to miss it so I picked something nearby so I could drop him and get home fast.”

He found you then?

“Yeah he found me, started sneaking out and bumming around outside my apartment wanting me to train him and be his new parent and other such nonsense. You’d think me flat out telling him to go F himself would get the point across, but he’s been incredibly dense from and incredibly early age and no matter how many times I sent him packing he kept showing back up, and then he started following me around town. I complained to the guys that where supposed to be watching him, but they clearly didn’t give a s*** as long as he wasn’t actively breaking the law.

Anyway one day when he was following me to the bar, as usual, he ran afoul of some local toughs. I should have let them kick his ass, maybe that would have finally learned him some sense, but in a moment of unthinking madness I stepped in and scared them off. That was it, it was over he latched onto me like a boa constrictor on a fat juicy cow and sunk in his fangs, it was impossible to escape. I redoubled my efforts and tried mightily to shake him off but about two weeks later he was bumming around outside again and it started raining in sheets… I just gave up I let him inside and that was that, he was ‘adpoted.’ “

“So then you began training him?”

“Acutally the first thing I did was look around and find a place willing to hire a 10 year old.”

You forced your adopted 10 year old son to work, and he did it?

“I could barely feed myself, and recall what I said above… Anyway I may have agreed to let him live under my roof and periodically train him, but I never said anything about feeding or supporting him! Anyway I just told him it was part of the ‘training’ and he pumped his fist declared he’d prove himself and off he went.”

Truly you’re a shining beacon for all aspiring parents.

“I do alright.”

Felix enters the apartment after a long day of stalking a guys wife, whom said man is convinced is being mind controlled. The dude’s bonkers, but rich and paying rather well, so all is forgiven. However he quickly noticed something amiss…

“Alan!” The boy quickly emerged from places meager kitchen. “The hell is going on here!”

“I cleaned!” He announced proudly.

“You did what?!”

“Well it was awfully messy so I thought…”

Felix was already moving about the room tearing open draws and rifling through newly organized selves. “Dammit I had a system going! Everything had its place!”

“But the stuff was all over the floors and the furniture…”

“That was it’s place! Now it’s ruined, and were the hell is my porn!?”

You asked an 11 year old what happened to your pornography?

“Hey kids today are banging in elementary school and being taught how daddy porked mommy to make them in the third grade, with pictures even, is porn really so bad?”

A surprisingly logical comeback…

I see your approach to childrearing is… old school.

“I’d call it neo-classical, fewer severe beatings, but more psychological torture to make up for it.”

Still I’ve meet him and he doesn’t seem to be a broken wreck… you must have done something right.

“Acutally I feel like I failed pretty badly, you meet him so you know he’s still a huge idealistic justice freak who wants to protect the meek and average evil with righteous fury and manly courage and such nonsense. You’d think almost 10 years would be enough to rid someone of such idiocy, but as I said he’s insanely dense, if only the bone in his skull could be mass produced it would make the greatest armor plate in the known galaxy.

“That’s why I’ve been trying to keep him out of the TSAB, right now his case of Justitis is acute, if he joined them it would probably become terminal. He’d volunteer for front line duty in some absurdly dangerous capacity and then charge into some hellish deathtrap like a dink and get annihilated. It’s hard enough keeping him under control with me around to watch him, I doubt anyone else could.”

So you do care about him.

“Well I didn’t waste seven years to end up with a letter saying he was killed valiantly attempting to rescue a kidnapped kitten from a rank SSS+ evil overlord or something.” Felix grumbled half heartedly.

Aww, you’re just a big softie after al—oww you kicked me, you frikkin spiteful bastard!

“Sorry foot slipped.”

Atuwe’s hand suddenly shifts to the left and knocks over a glass drenching Felix’s lap.

“Son of a--- I JUST cleaned this coat for this!”

Sorry hand slipped.

A staring contested issued and lasted for a fairly silly length of time before Atuwe broke it off and tried to move on realizing dead air was not good in an interview…

So what about his actual training? We’ve gotten some background but not much about his actual real training which he must have gotten plenty of to be have a rank estimated around AA+ at his age.

Felix continued to eye him silently for a few seconds but then seemed to let it drop. “Yeah well, I’ll admit the kid has talent just enough to be dangerous to himself and others though if you ask me. Anyway given his inherent personal attributes you know mispalced sense of duty, total lack of finesse, thick headiness, etc he was clearly suited for the role of melee fighter, and said as much, I didn’t argue as I’d always wanted my very own meat shield.”

“You’re a bombardment specialist yourself though correct?”

“Yeah, I never quite got the appeal of charging into another’s guy’s face to try and spill his guts all over your clothes. Personally I think all these hyper aggressive nuts with their often ludicrously large weapons are just compensating for small pen—“

Uh-hum! To my knowledge aside from the basics someone of your class would clearly have issues teaching effective close quarters combat, but he appears quite proficient; I’d assume you enlisted someone else’s aid?

“Well a decade plus floating from place to place and contract to contract dose get you a few contacts, and I knew just the guy to train him without slacking on my attempts to educate him to how much the world really sucked…

As you can see Alan got it in his head at an early age that he was going to follow in his “fathers” foot steps as a combat mage, and a bit to Felix’s dismay he had enough talent to do it. Being many things but not an idiot Felix realized dissuading him from this coruse was pretty much impossible, and besides if he hung around him for any serious length of time a kidnapping/murder attempt was pretty much inevitable at some point best he know how to take care of himself. Still given his mental handicaps he was gonna need a good teacher if he was going to get good enough fast enough not to get killed.

Luckily Felix knew just the guy and old war buddy… sorta. Pixy was an experienced close combat specialist and he felt he owed Felix a bit, having you know brutally stabbed him during a bit of an emo period a few years back and agreed to take the kid on as an “apprentice”. He was also a somewhat infamous mercenary with a rather checkered reputation, but hey beggars can’t be choosers, and he’d never been convicted of anything. Alan began training under him at age 8 and he was an effective teacher if a tad unorthodox and… demanding at times:

“Right then I think you’ve got that shield spell down pretty good so it’s time for a test.” Pxiy remarked causally as he stopped leaning forward on the pummel of his sword and hefted it up onto his shoulder.

“Kay you’re gonna like throw some stuff at me and have me block it right?”

“Hmm no acutally I was going to blast you with a mid level spell shooting spell.”

“Uhhh what… what if I can’t stop it?” Alan asked nervous.

“That would be bad, so you better do your best, now get ready.” Pixy replied assuming a fighting stance as his device quickly cycled and slammed home a cartridge. [Explosion]

Crazy or not Pixy knew how to get results and Alan progressed rapidly in rank throughout his teen years and when finally officially tested by the TSAB at age 15 he was classed as A-, a further two year of experience now pushes his estimated rank to A+ or perhaps even AA- though an actual evaluation hasn’t been performed. His skill level and experience was and is also considerably higher then many in his age group due to often being shanghaied by his Father and Friends into various assignments and later working with what amounted to a Special Forces unit. He’s had occasion to kill before, though rarely, and though he views it as last resort and a waste he willing and able do so if it’s warranted.

He’s been with the SOPCC for several years now and has been in combat with his “mercenary family” even before that. Pixy, Cipher, and Felix constitute that family to him having been around since he was about 10 and he gets on well with most everyone else on the team as well. His relationship with Felix is unorthodox the later simply refuses to be called “father” or any variation their of insisting he’s merely a “long term baby sitter” despite effectively raising Alan since preschool, and despite this gruff exterior he has, over time, grown to really care about his ward and manages to show it when it counts. Alan knows this and so is only minimally offended by his various snide remarks and scolding. Further though Felix would never admit it Alan is probably responsible for the fact he’s become considerably more personable and understanding over the years, hard as that is to believe.

Personality
Alan makes all efforts to live by a sort of “Knights code” despite not acutally being one chivalry, honor, all that jazz and is very earnest and eager to please, and also perhaps a bit blockheaded and slow on the uptake at times. Which isn’t to say he’s stupid, well mostly, so much as a bit gullible and naive. His rather odd upbringing hasn’t really seemed to helped in this regard though acutally one would think it would have made him harder and more worldly but then psychology is still a shaky science at best…

In any case years of effort by those around him to dislodge this silliness have thus far proved nearly futile and Felix, his adoptive father, has basiclly given up, beside he notes “The world needs suckers too”. His attitude toward women is on the “old fashioned” side depending on the person this can either been seen as endearing or condescending, sometimes both by one person at different times. It goes without saying he avoids most vices with an almost religious fervor.

In combat despite having been noted for sometimes not thinking things through as much as he should he nonetheless seems to have a flair for battle and he’s quick on his feet and acutally rather adaptable and cool headed when things get heated. Though he won’t back down from a fight and believes fervently in the good of the causes he fights for he can’t acutally be described as “hot blooded” in common sense of the word. That said calling him “Cool headed” wouldn’t quite fit either, though “proud” certainly would and that later part is what causes most of his problems really.

Combat Style:
Alan’s combat style revolves around close range combat, most of his spells are useless beyond even 50 meters and his objective is always to close distance with his enemy as quickly as possible. He has a affinity to fire and nearly all of his spells revolve around this to one degree or another, most fire users are noted for high attack power, middling speed, and somewhat flimsily defense and he follows this pattern fairly well. He can inflict some pretty decent area damage, but only at close range and his most powerful spells are quite draining on him.

He can fly quite well, as you’d expect being in the Air Force, but acutally tends to prefer to fight on the ground in many cases never feeling all that comfortable in a dogfight.

Device appearances and overview:
Normal: Classic Halberd small axe blade up front, hooked spike on the back, and a spear point on top fairly plain shaft faux wood staff, cartridges are stored in the shaft just behind the head revolver style. This mode is the most common and best balanced and is the used the most as a result.
Axe Form: Not hard to figure out the Axe portion enlarges at the expense of the other elements, its striking power and damage is increased but it becomes rather unwieldy and slower.
Spear Form: The axe and spike effectively vanish becoming little more then ornamental bits at the base of the spear point which extends considerably into a fairly wicked point. Raw power is reduced considerably but speed and precision is increased greatly and penetration through fields and armor is still quite good, but grace and careful placement of blows is required to exploit this due to the lack of raw damage… needless to saw this is Jägersmann’s least used mode.

Barrier Jacket: The jacket shifts form as the weapon dose to suit each in its normal form it reassembles light cloth armor aside from a cuirass, armored grieves, and gauntlets and is largely red in color with black trim aside from the armor which retains its natural metallic hue. Axe form bulks up the armor adding what looks like chain mail to the upper arms and lower thighs while a plate Fauldscovering the upper thighs. Finally spear form strips all protection on the legs, the gauntlets shrink to simple armored gloves and the cuirass is thinned down covering a smaller area.

Attack Spells:
Zündung: A simple spell that enshrouds his weapons cutting head in flames for added damage.
Zündung Plus: A cartridge boosted variant the flames are considerably more intense and can easily melt through armor plate with slashes or stabs.
Flamme-Schrägstrich: Another fairly simple maneuver a wide swing of the blade projects a large grout of flames along the path of said swing out of a maximum range of around 50 meters. The intensity is variable and it can be used as a fairly powerful attack on down to a mere distraction or visual cover. It can also be focused down into a thin edge with high power or a wide area with lower force, or powered up with cartridges. A very versatile spell and one of his staples.
Brennende Lanze: Somewhat similar to the above but instead of a wide slash it focuses the flames into a flamethrower like projection originating from the head of the weapon and projected out in a similar manner. Short ranged, but quite powerful similar in force to many buster spells, at very close range (>15 meters) it strikes almost like a cutting torch over a small area with intense force, but it dissipates quickly and by about 50 meters it’s defused into a large cone shaped projection. The duration of the blast is short so it’s difficult to take advantage of this diffusion effect for area damage in open terrain, though fired down some confined space like a hall it can be very effective in that role.
Feuerkugel: Simple shooting spell and his only decent ranged attack conjures between four to eight small homing fireballs and launches them at the target.
Flammendes Inferno: A very powerful spell centered on the user when activated an enormous ball of flame more resembling an explosion is unleashed from the caster quickly engulfing the entire area around him in a hellish… well inferno. The radius can be adjusted, as can the power, too a point, but this still very nearly an inherently lethal attack at maximum power from several cartridges it can cover an area nearly 100 meters in diameter. The spell dose NOT do knock back like a proper explosion it will merely expand outward and rapidly engulf anything nearby in the flames. As such it’s best combined with a bind that pins the target inside the effect for maximum damage, due to it’s nature any defense that leaves an opening to the user is nearly useless. It lasts for around 10 seconds once triggered, requires at least 3 cartridges to activate and 5 for maximum effect but this severely drains Alan and he’d barely be able to stand after the later expenditure, as such it’s a last resort trump card.

Defense Spells:
Brandmauer: Appears to encase the user in a burning aura, fiery special effects aside this a mostly standard defensive field spell providing limited but full body protection, has a bonus against other fire based attacks though.
Tri Shield: A standard shield spell provides heavy protection, but only across a very limited vector, can be maneuvered around though but still only covers one point ay any given time.
Flamme-Sperre: A mid way point between the above covering most of the frontal arc, but not the rear takes the form of a fiery half dome centered on the caster, is locked to the caster so to turn the shield he has to turn his body.

Movement:
Flügel des Feuers: Effectively Flier Fin with the “fins” taking the forms of small flames at the ankle, pretty much just a showy flight spell.
Blitz Rüber: A short range speed boost the user zips forward at high speed trailing flames behind them (strictly for show… well unless you do it over dry grass or something), if used in the flight the flame wings near the ankles flare to several times normal size when actived.

Misc:
Struggle Bind: Standard bind spell used for restraining or disrupting movement.
Bind Break: Another standard spell used to well… break binds duh.

Felix colorfull commentary on Alan had me grinning all the way through. Its a miracle that Alan turned out like he did with someone like Felix taking care of him.

This reminds me while a small part of me was actually looking forward to Vita's death in StrikerS. She would have died an awesome death there atfter destroying the Cradle's reactor.

The impact of that would have been very nice but while having hopes of that, at the same time I knew it was just about impossible as the main cast are very unlikely to get killed. Besides with the way things were at that point, Vita's death might not even be justified properly to achieve the intended effect.

Its also a point to note that Hayate had no magic power whatsoever prior to the Yami no Sho incident. Reinforce was the one responsible for Hayate's powers.

Hayate had the power but all of that was suppressed until the Defence Program was removed. Reinforce only managed to boost her with experience.

The impact of that would have been very nice but while having hopes of that, at the same time I knew it was just about impossible as the main cast are very unlikely to get killed. Besides with the way things were at that point, Vita's death might not even be justified properly to achieve the intended effect.

Yeah the set up wasn't nearly epic enough to justify killing her IMO, I'd have been fucking pissed.

Attack Spells (Spear Form):
Ice Spear: Simple enchantment; Sparrow does extra Ice damage.

Flame Edge: one of the few fire-element spells that Naomi can do. Igniting Sparrow's blade with fire, Naomi dishes out both cutting as well as Fire damage. It also looks more GAR, which was her primary consideration.

Diamond Dust: Emili's strongest close-range spell, but usually reserved for Rampage Ghost: Spiral Shift. Emili conjures around her a snowstorm. This snowstorm lowers everything in a 60' radius to -10 degrees Celsius. The snowstorm hides her position and assails her opponent with ghost-like shapes (an illusion) and hailstones (real). Which annoyed her to no end as her shorter classmates had bigger busts than she did...a minor variation of this jacket adds glasses for the meganekko appeal.

Other Spells:
Lightning Bind: Typical lightning-element binding spell. Naomi uses the standard version, and not Franz's "taser" version.
Frost Fin: How Naomi flies.
Blitz Action: Rapid-movement spell.

Naomi Kicku ka? Going for Power and Precision instead of Quantity

Nice spell lists overall, having the ability to use Ice and Flame spells is nice without being an elemental user And nice to see Naomi going for the most GAR options when available

Which IMO is the case here anything that ultimately prevents Spike's death IMO is just disrespectful to his character. That fight was MEANT to happen it really had too and it was pretty much a given he wasn't gonna walk away. Indeed it's just fun to have him turn out so totally different despite his upbringing, which dose happen at times with kids and their parents. Plus it makes the "father-son" relationship more interesting, I really do need to write up some stuff on that too it's been a rather neglected aspect of both chars I need to make that odd, but still present bond clearer I think. I’ve also been meaning to write up some pet the dog stuff for him since despite his commonly displayed attitude I always intended that he wasn’t really a total asshole just cynical and a bit blunt (read tactless) and that he got more personable over time. (read got slightly better at just letting the chance for a jab pass.)

But Pixy's training methods FTW

Seeing how he acted in game I really can't imagine him engaging in any method besides training from hell...

But hey this is anime so of course it worked and didn't break him, indeed the TFH seems to have strengthened Alan's idealism... after all that kind of shit is something all real heroes do at some point.

Attack Spells (Staff Form):
Freezing Ring: A ring of ice appears around Naomi before it streaks outward, chilling anything around her but only doing minor damage.

Ice Missile: Naomi forms multiple shards of ice around her that morph into energy bolts. These bolts are unguided but pack a punch.

Stinger Ray: Naomi gathers energy and fires a rapid-fire barrage of weak magical bolts. She typically uses this spell to provide supression fire and to distract the enemy, not as any particularly effective form of attack.

Barrett Shot: Standard version. 1 cartridge, 4 shots.

Ice Lance: Similar to Ice Missile, but instead of many smaller bolts, one large one is formed, then fired. The bolt is still unguided.
-Ice Lance Guided: Naomi's variation on Ice Missile. By pointing Sparrow at the target and keeping it on target, the Ice Lance Guided will be manually guided to the target. Naomi uses this as her sniper spell.

Polar Ray: Naomi's standard bombardment spell. Similar to Divine Buster, but freezes enemies as well as doing damage. An AAA-rank spell, Naomi can use it at AA power by loading 4 cartridges.

Attack Spells (Spear Form):
Ice Spear: Simple enchantment; Sparrow does extra Ice damage.

Flame Edge: one of the few fire-element spells that Naomi can do. Igniting Sparrow's blade with fire, Naomi dishes out both cutting as well as Fire damage. It also looks more GAR, which was her primary consideration.

Diamond Dust: Emili's strongest close-range spell, but usually reserved for Rampage Ghost: Spiral Shift. Emili conjures around her a snowstorm. This snowstorm lowers everything in a 60' radius to -10 degrees Celsius. The snowstorm hides her position and assails her opponent with ghost-like shapes (an illusion) and hailstones (real). Naomi's version acts similarly, but is much weaker.

Shard Dagger: Naomi turns Sparrow into blades of ice that can snap off in her enemy, then grow up.

Defense Spells:
Protection: Sparrow's auto-guard.
Round Shield: Basic defense spell.
Barrier Jacket
- Strike Jacket: Naomi's BJ for Strike Form. It drops her skirt and armor and sleeves, leaving just the white gi (which is very short) and black swimsuit/underleotard. This form grants her increased mobility but reduced defense, in keeping with her preferred ranged combat style of evading enemy fire. It's also more eye candy, but as yet it does not seem to have suceeded in drawing Franz's attention.
-Maid Jacket: Created while she was bored, Maid Jacket essentially recreates the maid outfit Naomi wore at her school open day's class maid cafe. It's only used for laughs and trying to get Franz's attention. Little-used when her flightmates pointed out to her that it emphasises her smallish bust. Which annoyed her to no end as her shorter classmates had bigger busts than she did...a minor variation of this jacket adds glasses for the meganekko appeal.

Other Spells:
Lightning Bind: Typical lightning-element binding spell. Naomi uses the standard version, and not Franz's "taser" version.
Frost Fin: How Naomi flies.
Blitz Action: Rapid-movement spell.
