questions about format .rmvb

I might've seen it in the far away past but I forgot a great deal about these kind of files, first off if I remember they are meant for RealPlayer right? I wondered if cccp supports this format or if I will have to convert first. So the questions of today are:

- What is this format
- Does CCCP support playing this format (I usually make use of CCCP with WMP)
- If I wanted to convert it to AVI what converter should I be using

Yes, RMVB is a Real Player format. Afaik CCCP can not play it by default, as it's a proprietary codec.

But there is a package with which you can play it (in combination with the other components of CCCP) without installing the bloated adware that is Real Player. Google for "Real Alternative".

As for a converter alltoavi should be able to do the job (or so I've heard since I haven't done that myself because I avoid rmvb like the plague).

GHDpro's solution is a better choice than installing the latest version of Real Player . I tend to install R.Player 10.5 gold then use MPlayer.Classic to play RMVB and RM Files .

libavcodec now fully supports all Real video formats (RV10-RV40), thanks to Kostya's dedicated reverse-engineering.

Which if you were wondering is what ffdshow and therefore CCCP uses to decode. The recent CCCP betas should have that fairly good rv30/40 decoding.

Get Real Alternative!

Then, convert using AlltoAvi.

It should really fast but the size of the concluding file will actually be a few times larger.

Why convert when you can play it already?

I think you don't have to convert it...

Real Alternative wasn't a good idea after all D:
it made CCCP clash for me and then caused all my video's I would play with any media player to get a flashing green screen (as if it had been circuit bend or something lol), I guess I'll have to convert it all but I don't have the time right now I hardly understand how All to AVI works so I'll get back to you when I have time to convert these movies
