I was surprised no one had made this thread yet. I decided to read the manga after enjoying another sports manga/anime and hearing this one announced. I'm really looking forward to this one now. So far no episode count, but I'm hoping for at least 2 cour.

Also, when I first saw the main two characters and read their personalities my first thought was when did Imaizumi and Naruko decide to play volleyball?!!!

I'll be looking forward to this by the virtue of this is Production I. G who will be in the helm for making it. I don't think I've seen a sports anime on volleyball before, but I like watching... so I'll be looking forward to it.

No one had made a thread because almost no one on animesuki gives a damn to sports anime.

Anyway, Haikyuu is mostly another generic jump sport series in its structure, but a bit nonortodox, especially with regards to its characters....it actually has good character development. The humor is also pretty great. Will watch for sure.

This is going to be a gynormous fujoshi hit. Wouldn't be shocked if sales rival Kurobas, S2 of Kurobas anyway.

I am afraid this could indeed be a large part of the reason. For myself the only series I drift towards in the "sports" genre focuscon things like shogi, mahjong, go or karuta.

But even my personal tastes aside it is true that sports anime get small attention in here for whatever reason - at present the currently airing sports series Diamond no Ace, Kuroko no Basket and Yowamushi Pedal threads get very few posts....

Still, maybe next season series like Haikyu, Baby Steps and Ping Pong will be able to "break into" the mainstream better....

Because (nearly) all of us have read the manga and such anime is pretty much almost 100% faithful, there's not much to talk about except animation quality.

@Cloudedmind We just can't be bothered, I guess.

well, haikyuu is one of those "normal" sport manga, like diamond no ace.
its not so impressive, but not so bad either. its just normal, maybe thats why its long lasting...

why doesnt ahiru no sora get a chance like haikyuu and ace of diamond? its the best normal sport manga so far

well, if you look harder into the past, Kuroko no Basket isn't Production I.G.'s first attempt at "bishounen Jump syndrome" sports manga series, see the Prince of Tennis

Banpresto has already announced four prize figures. One of Hinata, Tobio, Kenma, and Tooru. Merchandise for the show is also really starting to roll in. And if all those lines about X volume being a huge hit that I see on every new chapter of Haikyu are to be believed then yeah, it'll hopefully be big.

Haha fair enough. That is something I've noticed with sports anime, they do tend to stay pretty faithful to the manga and they're also fairly straight forward, so there's not a whole lot for people to b***ch about.

Unless it's sport that also allows easy fanservice like swimming or gymnastics.

Though that reminds me....

Well I for one love sports anime. I just don't really comment on such threads for some unknown reason So who knows, maybe there are people like me who watch it, but don't really talk about it.

I used to play volleyball myself, so I'm partial to it. The PVs look great, so definitely watching.
