Yes, ep18 may be the best so far. A bit forced and clunky in some ways, but both exciting and moving. Yuuki Aoi was wonderful. And so was Nazuka Kaori as the "orphan."

So Victorique showed us the trick to how Hunt died. Occult vs Ministry on the train for the box. Felt bad for the guy because he was just doing it to save his sister. Victorique shooting the gun was awesome especially riding right in front of the train as well. So she solved the box but i don't see how it helps yet.

I did not expect this episode to be so action-packed. That was a refreshing and exciting change of pace.

The trick behind Hunt's murder turned out to be extremely simple. Sadly, they didn't say anything about what interested me the most: his motivation for opening the floodgates and destroying Beelzebub's skull. Did he work the academy or something? I'll just assume he was part of the knight and the orphan's group.

The shooting the detonators scene reminded me of MGS. It's unbelievable they managed to hit such a tiny target from this distance with that kind of gun... Quick, I must activate my suspension of disbelief...! Well, that was a pretty cool scene.

PS: Kujo denied being an idiot, but being called a slave didn't bother him one bit. He's finally starting to understand his position, huh?

That was certainly more action packed than I was expecting, when I saw Kujo and Victorique in maid outfits in the preview I thought it was going to be some filler fluff, glad to see I was wrong. And, just to make sure I'm on the same page, where have we seen him before? At first I thought he was from the alchemist arc but that was the Marquis wasn't it? Did he pop up in the Grey Wolves village and I just forgot?

If you mean Roget, he was introduced in the Leviathan arc (he was the guy who Musgrave put up to debunk alchemy in front of the court against Leviathan, in the scene where the king breaks down...Episode 14 or 15, probably early in 15, I believe) and later appears as the head of the Ministry in 16 in the flashback to when Roscoe is at Beelzebub's Skull.

As for Episode 18, that was great stuff! The shooting to hit the trigger was more than a little unbelievable (well, not the fact that Victorique missed the first two times--that made sense, since it looked like those shots were far outside the range of the pistol!), especially since they were firing from a moving platform (the train) at the time...but hey, Rule of Drama. Victorique's happy face when she made the shot was incredibly cute...maid Victorique less so for me just because "Let's put Victorique in a maid outfit!" is obviously there for the benefit of fans who like seeing characters in maid outfits, but hey, to each his/her own. I'd have liked to see the cat-and-mouse games between the agents play out over more than one episode, but on the other hand, doing it this way kept the pacing fast and exciting.

I'd like to know what special skills Lesglant had for the Ministry of the Occult to want to blackmail him into being their agent, rather than simply sending out their own actual, professional agents. Mind you, Albert de Blois thus far seems to be the kind of guy who deliberately chooses Plan A over Plan B solely because Plan A allows for more cackling villain antics, so it's not out of character, just...strange.

Part of me wishes that they'd explained that Hunt was an agent for the Academy of Science, but another part of me is glad that they respected the viewer's intelligence enough to assume that we'd realize on our own that a man who's sneaking around after the memento box, was involved in destroying a stronghold of the Ministry of the Occult, was murdered by an agent of the Ministry of the Occult (since Morella later appeared in ep. 17 with de Blois), and had the character trait of debunking the alleged "magic" at Phantasmoragia might just be a member of the agency that opposes the Ministry of the Occult.

Somewhat disappointed at the next-episode preview. Looks like more comedy filler and reunion with the supporting cast, though de Blois's appearance may hint at something else going on. But hey.

The next episode would probably cover the only parts of the light novels in which I have no idea what it is about.

By the way, the names of the spies are as follows:
"the Orphan" = name unknown ;_;
"the Scarecrow" [in the novels 公妃, not sure what this is] = calls herself "Britannia Gabriel"
"the Knight" [in the novels "the Departed"] = Sam Ornell
"the Woodcutter" = Gideon Leglant

There's also the spelling clarification of the Village of the Gray Wolves: Saillune.

I felt that this episode, pretty much like the previous one and some older arcs too, suffered for having too much things stuffed in 20 minutes. Enjoyable nonetheless, but somehow I feel that if out of the last two episodes (17-18), they could have made 3 expanding on a few topics, the result would have been smoother and nicer.

Other than that, nice action, nice Victorique moments, nice ending.

Well not a bad episode for Kujo. He almost made no mistakes this time around. Though Victorique did have to elbow him so he didn't volunteer to be first in that game. She probably suspected that poison would be in play somehow and certainly wasn't going to let Kujo put himself on the line. He also ended up sitting on her, but really considering he wasn't yelling in the dark "Victorique!" I think that's an improvement .

A pretty fun scene with them at the front of the train getting ready to make that shot. They did well as a team here.

Too bad for the orphan girl. Seemed really terrified of passing on without knowing her birthday. Hopefully Kujo's ability to charm girls helped comfort her a little as she passed on.

the part where our duo, Kujo & Victorique standing in the front of the train while pointing the gun, then shot the bomb was BADASS!!! heck its even better than a certain scene from Titanic!!!

I think the luck lay in the fact that this is anime, and anything goes, lol. Loved the episode, and quickly got over my total disbelief because the scene and situation were so awesome.

Pellissier is right that they packed an excessive amount into this episode. But I quickly got over that, too. Pretty nice to have a whole situation arise and be resolved within one episode. I hope what's happening is that they have decided to squeeze a bit here so as to have a comfortable number of episodes for the concluding arc.

I also agree that this was way too much packed into one ep, but also liked it despite that. AMazing how much Victorique and Kujo can get away with with me!

I would give it a 7/10 vote - it was a good one. But I personally liked the previous ep more.

And here in the U.S. we complain if we have to pay $60.00 without discounts for a 13-episode set. Which makes me think that something is very, very broken somewhere in the business model for anime in Japan.
