Problem while cutting an .mkv file

Hi Animusuki, I was trying to cut an .mkv (chopping the op and ed out to link them to each episode) but the cut never occurs where I specify. Let's say I tell mkvmerge to cut the file at 4:00:125. The file is indeed cut but some seconds after what I chose and as you guys may know I need a precise cut. I tried with both mkvtoolnix and avi-mux. What's happening? What would you recommend?
It's h.264 encoded btw.

Thanks beforehand.

If you want to cut without reencoding the entire file, the cuts must start and end on keyframes. If there isn't a keyframe where you want to cut, mkvmerge will just cut at the nearest keyframe instead. If you use Aegisub it can tell you which frames are keyframes (the timestamp/framenumber field turns green when you're viewing one).

;_;

Thanks a lot for answering!

Well... I guess that means as long as I don't reecode I won't be able to chop the file exactly where I want to ;_;

I'm a n00b. How do I reecode it so that the .mkv is cuttable were I need it to? Also, reencoding = video and audio quality loss in any way?

I wan't the file to remain .mkv and h.264 encoded btw.

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm following your blog's entry about Matroska's ordered chapters and file linking btw.
