Just want to bring up this post

That included:

Quote:
. Satou did said in the interview with 2.5d that he wrote the story of Marika's growing up. So if that is not your kind of tea, and you're following "3 episodes rule", might as well drop this.
Basicly the director warned people that this was going to have a slow start before it aired.

I keep seeing this, but I'm not sure what people mean by it...

Means it has moments of serious and old school sci-fi. Even if it's littered with school girls, it doesn't mess up that space opera feel from the old animes. This is why people mostly compare the show with Star Trek.

Yeah normaly shows with highschool girls don't have a male narrator doing the intro/recaps and the previews

Yep. They also DON'T pilot pirate ships disguised as school-owned ships. Sora Kake Girl is an exception.

Though Sora Kake Girl had Lelouch in a bottle, Mr. Asia as the friendship robot, and Fuuko as the "Don't mess with me, Lelouch" pocket robot.

Well not exactly, but by proxy at times.

And perhaps less tolerable. Besides, there IS fanservice -- just very subtle.

It's a coming of Age Story then. Those who cannot bear such stories should drop it.

Of course, those who enjoy such stories (and let's face it, anime has precious few such stories now of days, at least well done ones,) would find it a refreshing change from the usual fare.

Just as I said before, this one's gonna be like Treasure Island.

Ok, let's take a look at jpn space opera of today? More often, you have a chance to see a mecha somewhere else, random brat, etc...

What about the space opera churned out by USA? Grizzled Space Marines. Fucking Everywhere. When it is not Space Marines, expect special forces, or expect the lead to belong to some special forces and any paramiliraty organisation. And expect them to quote the key moments of Aliens like "GAME OVER! MAN! GAME OVER!!!!".

Moretsu Space Pirates feels closer to the sci fi pulp, with schoolgirls. It's closer to a Space Adventure Cobra than a Mass Effect, as far as the feel of Space Opera goes.

A guy like me can only watch repeat episodes of Star Trek: TNG for so long.

I absolutely love coming of age stories, actually (a good example for me being Kemono so Soujo Erin) - I hope Space Pirates is able to pull it off well too! So far for me it is doing well....

I like the slow pace of this show since it beats the frenetic pace of a couple others I've seen...

Anyway, I think that this was missed in the episode three discussion:

I agree, that will be Chiaki's definite G-spot. Heck, if I were be the marketing guy for Haagen-Dasz or Dreyer's I'll hire her for a TV ad.

Mobirates 04 - The Flying Ghost Ship... (X)

Okay, now we're starting to get somewhere. The space battles here look to be more of the mind than of blowing things up (though if it was using the mind to find the right way to blow things up, I'd be cool with that). But by the laws of narrative, about half an episode spent planning for an attack doesn't bode well. To keep the audience on their toes, at least some aspect of this elaborate plan has to fail. If Marika had made it up on the spot, I'd be more certain it would work. The preview does look to deliver on this, at least. I'm also interested in the class's histories and personalities. Every side character has just as much of a story to tell as any main character, and these brief glimpses were enough to pique my curiosity.

Surprised the Pres knew about Marika. Everyone was like what then just went with it. Nice plan Marika came up with. Looks like they go after the ghost ship next ep.

The good: glad some of the readers find this show all right, even with some detractors and minor complaints.

The bad: the director's other work -- Lagrange -- got a few votes. No surprises because some thought it looked and felt generic compared to so-called "established" mecha franchises.

Oh, this is interesting: Macias discusses the girls behind the OP -- Momoiro Clover Z:
