I remember reading that Yamakan was opposed to all the commercialisation that the producers and all that wanted to incorporate into Lucky Star. Not sure if it was from a more substantial source or just a bunch of hot air like what we're spouting now, but looking at the amount of shameless plug-ins (blatant Haruhi ones come to mind pretty vividly lol) after he left I'm kinda inclined to agree.

Well, that KyoAni shop page is emphasizing their most recent anime original works (well, kinda-sorta anime-original in Chuuni's case). I can think of two possible reasons for this, and one would be pretty basic and non-controversial.

The basic reason would be legal/financial reasons due to KyoAni presumably having greater say over their own internal IPs than they have over their adaptation works.

Is this gonna be the new KyoAni shop page? Cause certainly, those new logos are kinda saying something. No Clannad. No Nichijou. No Hyouka. No K-ON!

Seems like work in progress but this will be interesting....
They launched that site in July. It's a promotional site (main store is still hosted on shop-pro.jp) where they'll promote the merchandise they're selling for the various shows. The shows you've mentioned have not had any new merchandise since Comiket 79, Comiket 81, Comiket 83, and Comiket 83. Their lack of spots on the site is due to the lack of new merchandise to promote.

If nothing shows up that would be interesting and leaves open for possibilities of work outside. But highly unlikely I guess.....
And now we know it's Chuunibyou season 2. KyoAni's going back to their late 2000s work style with multiple series back-to-back now.

And don't forgot something Tamako on the horizon too (prob a recap movie I'm guessing, since everyone seems to be jumping on that boat nowadays). KyoAni fans gonna have to be on that suicide watch

Even as a person who is critical of kyoani often, I didn't think Tamako market was actually that bad. Heck I even thought tamako was one of the better female kyoani characters for sure. Probably their best airheaded character if its even from that archetype.

I really liked the op too. Dat tophat and drumsticks.

Honestly, I don't expect KyoAni to ever go back to anything they did pre-Chuuni.

But even as someone who doesn't expect that, I'm a bit surprised they're going back to Tamako Market. IIRC, it didn't sell all that well, especially by KyoAni's standards.

Sequels are easier to push out the door as opposed to a new IP where you gotta make all the assets from scratch. A lot of that stuff has already been done in a sequel and you can just re-use it.

If anything I see this new Tamako thing as more of a side project probably to keep the revenue flowing and fill time so they can plan out their next major project.

All we have are Oricon sale estimates to judge it by. Many other factors play a decision in the business decisions. They may have felt it worthy to continue in whatever form it takes (may not even be anime form).

Ok, that explains it. It even helps to explain why sequels in general seem to get green-lighted all the time even for just mildly successful shows for various anime companies.

Thanks for the info.

Maybe the sales of related goods are going fine. That's usually one factor that can easily go under the radar of us western fans.

It's hilarious how the entire ANN thread assumed it was a tv series when it might not even be an anime at all.

Not just them. A lot of Japanese 2ch blogs titled it "Tamako Market New Project (Second Season)."

I don't know why people jump the gun in this age of multi-media projects.

Kyoto Animation and Animation Do will hold a fan appreciation event on November 30, 2013 at the Miyako Messe in Kyoto. This event is titled "C・T・F・K 2013" giving us a clue to the contents (Chuunibyou, Tamako, Free!, Kyoukai). In addition, the companies cooperating are Pony Canyon, Lantis, TBS, Asahi Broadcasting, and Quaras Incorporated (an advertising company). Additional details will become public on 10/17.

I might as well bring this back up considering a lot of peeps are getting really iffy feelings towards Kyoukai no Kanata and not clog up the series thread anymore (I wonder what the Japanese feel about the series as well). So Taichi Ishidate as a director so far....oy, something tells me he's not going to get the same success the first-time directors for K-ON! and Free got, and like I said before that's just embarrassing in comparison of those two.

I wonder what's going to happen to him if this show doesn't meet certain expectations. Will this be his first and last time directing for awhile?

Oh, you can send questions, huh? Is it possible for someone here to translate the questions we're about to write to Japanese? I BET some users would love the opportunity for that!

They have staff who know English, so as long as the questions are grammatically easy, you could probably ask them on the form.

To do so, click here. On the first entry slot, enter a nickname. Underneath that is asking your gender (top-male/bottom-female). The first drop-down box is age range (10s). The second drop-down box is location (choose the final option "Abroad"). Lastly, enter your question/comment in under 1000 characters in the final box. Hit the button. It'll ask if you want to confirm your submission on a new page. Scroll down and hit the top button to send or the bottom button to revise what you've entered.
