I thought the second season was downright terrible. Oh well.

I never expect that people would bloody try to compare sales figure from two series which are produced by the same studio. Shaft surly has various range of viewers. If it's KyoAni then I doubt this would be the case.

Whether Bake or PMMM sells the most is... irrelevant, as they're on my MAL watchlist now.

Vol.1 of Madoka is just 5k behind vol.1 of Bakemonogatari, and Bake is out for almost 2 years.

Madoka can catch up with Bakemonogatari.

And don't forget that Bakemonogatari is also a popular LN and movie will be out soon. Such things boost anime sales.

Are bloody amazing... This is probably the first time we've had 6 series do an opening week of 10k+ Now if AnoHana had came out this week and Ao No Exorcist wasn't dominated by DVD sales (the fanbase isn't as otaku heavy as the above mentioned shows) you could've had 8 series do over 10k opening weeks.
It should also be noted that sales of merchandise related to home entertainment can often go up (or at least not be impacted as much) during times of social and economic distress. This is because they are considered safer or cheaper (depending on the context) alternatives to other more expensive forms of entertainment.

Ramen sales also tend to go up when the economy isn't doing so well, again due to cost.

Ah yes merchandise, people are forgetting that anime profits don't come from DVD/BD sales alone.

PreCure is the most profitable anime franchise right now only thanks to merchandise.

Madoka has like 20 times more merchandise than Bakemonogatari ever did. Putting this and BD sales together it's obviously a much more profitable series than Bakemonogatari.

There wasa thread on the TVTropes forum where someone compared the GlDOS guy to the QB. I think the GlaDOS guy was from Portal or something.

Oh. Well, GLaDOS exhibits some unique personality and trolls, which is known by everyone that has played Portal 1/2. So yeah, I can see why someone would try to compare the two.

The X-axis is weeks after release, Y-axis is number of BD+DVD sales.

The circle-marked lines represent Bake and triangle for Madoka, it should be easy to figure out which volume based on the color/picture there.

V1 and V2 look like dropping out of the top 50 from next week.

(22) *7 *,797 *55,803 *3 Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica v3
(47) 32 *,386 *66,387 11 Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica v1
(48) 26 *,384 *61,098 *7 Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica v2

Might appear for release date of V4-6 and some weeks with low thresholds. V3 is going to kill any chance this had of outselling Bake... and this doesn't have Bake's.. structure, reanimation and streamed episodes (the bump to OreNo V7 shows this is a factor) to have the last half of the series outsell the first half.

Ugh.... looking at this chart... you know I'm not really disappointed if Madoka won't outsell Bakemonogatari. I love Bakemonogatari too... What I find disappointing in that chart is how Nadeko Snake outsold other parts of Bakemonogatari... Nadeko Snake IMO is the most disappointing part of the series <_<

Well, with PMMM now being written up in mainstream magazine articles such as SPA! (a mag catering to 20somethings and midage salarymen), as well as a book analyzing the show in depth, should in case TBS/MBS decides on a rerun and places PMMM on a more mainstream timeslot it might as well change the sales figures.

By the way, does those sales figures (any quote should have a link to the information source) concern about DVDs? Or BDs? Or combination of thereof?

The arc was okay, but I love Kana Hanazawa.
