There is a trick for that, you have to make sure the outlines are on a seperate layer. An easy-to-use tutorial on how to extract your outlines can be found here.

It's the method I use, and I think it works like a charm. Just place the outline layer on top and you won't ever have to worry about overlapping it with your colloring.

for that you have two options. You can either extract the black outline onto another layer like Keroko suggests, or you can have all the colours contained in one layer group, and set the layer option to Multiply. Like so:


anyways, thank you guys for all the compliments . I was just doing a quick colouring job in case nobody else was going to (that would be a shame). And it feels really great to know when people appreciate your work. Thanks again and I hope to fill in some other requests in the future.
