Aquarion Series - Mecha, Weapons, and Technology
As the title suggests, the purpose of this thread is to discuss Aquarion Series Mecha, Weapons, and Technology
Please keep discussion about plot and storylines in the relevant Episode Discussion threads, not here. It's also a good idea that this thread discuss things that have shown up in the anime, manga or light novel - discussion of things that have only been announced should stay in the appropriate thread. Note that because of the nature of this thread, there may be spoilers for non-anime Aquarion Series works. Please keep such spoilers to a minimum, and use well-titled spoiler tags whenever possible.
Don't forget to use a title to let everyone know what you're spoiling!
Spoiler for title:
Be polite to your fellow forum members and try and keep the discussion on topic and above all, enjoy. |

I have the Chougokin Aquarion and inside the instruction manual was a nice bit on the mecha design by the designer Shouji Kawamori.
Shouji Kawamori said that he has always been interested in both transforming and gattai mecha, of course the grandfather of both transforming and gattai mecha was Getter Robo. He really wanted to create something like Getter Robo, 3 planes, 3 forms, but the one flaw for the transforming and gattai process was the extreme changes in proportions that makes the processes physically impossible. He wanted to design a transform gattai process that doesn't only keep its proportions perfectly in animation, but also in reality. To do this, he used Legos, he literally designed and built the entire Aquarion through careful design and trial and error with Lego blocks. In the end he created a Lego mecha with 3 plane components that could combine perfectly in 3 ways. The design was then polished and detailed and made in 3D so that all the transforming and gattai processes will always look perfect. Gattai was very important to the story concept of Aquarion that's why he paid so much attention on it.

Also, looks like the Aquarion Gepard needs to separate at least Vector Y to transform into Assault Walker form, unlike the Aquarion Delta that can transform without separating.

Haven't watched the original series so I don't know if Solar Aquarion did this too. But I messed with my SRC Solar Aquarion figure's articulation week ago and made it 'transform' like that Gepard XD
On the Ippatsu Gyakuten Hen however, Solar Aquarion repaired itself after being beaten into scrap after Apollo, Reika, and Sylvia use the song's power to sing 'Sousei n Aquarion' ^^
