Well with this decision they play save: Tonkii isn't important for this series plot (the only important thing is the existence of Excaliber), so if a second season out of whatever reasons wouldn't come they wouldn't leave open strings of the story.

I do hope we get the Jotunheimr arc in an OVA or sumthin. We never really see any Undines until then lol.

To be fair though, literally everything between Kirito logging in and their arrival at the World Tree is unimportant to the plot. I really don't think they'll cut Jotunheimer for that reason.

OK, I have to admit that anyone that could get Ghibli to sign on to do a season would be almost guaranteed a gold mine. But it's difficult for me to see how THIS would be the material they would choose.

Not knocking SAO in any manner, but I would see them doing a full Anime of YKK or Kabui no Isaki (which are much more in the Ghibli vein) before they would do this.

So they completely skipped all of Jotunheim. Episode 21 starts with Kirito and Lyfa already inside Arun, but exactly because of how they skipped it they can reintroduce that part of the story if they ever make a second season or an OVA with Caliber SS in it.

Kind of divided.

So far it's been a really faithful adaptation. To suddenly veer off that feels weird.

OTOH, if that decision means I get a fully animated ch.7,8,9, then it's fine by me.

From the pace it looks like the next episode (ep22) will cover the rest of chapter 7. So in the next episode Asuna finds out Kirito and Yui are nearby. Suguha/Leafa also finds out that Kirito is Kazuto.

After that ep 23 & 24 will most likely cover chapter 8, and the final episode (ep 25) will cover chapter 9. So the scene where Kirito and Asuna reunite in the real world might happen in ep24, an episode early than I expected.

Less than I expected. I think relentless is managing to divert the attention to the rest of the episode, with surprisingly good results. RandomC is flipping out though.

As unreliable as it is, so far the info about SAO itself hasn't strayed from the actual information. Guess we shall wait and see although I'm also abit hesitant about the info.

relentless is most talented.

RC is flipping out because it was noted in the blog entry and with warrant. It was the eyesore of the otherwise good episode. As it was in the book's chapter, lol.

The usual suspects in the Anime blogosphere picked up on the tentacle rape, and quite predictably tore into SAO for that.

I wonder really, whether this was pandering to the base on the part of A1 Studios, or more example of blind adaptation from the LN. Speaking of which, I wonder why Reki wrote such a scene to begin with?

Why tentacles? Why slim monsters? Does Sugou have a sick sense of humor? Or is this some sort of "censoring" done to protect the identities of the Scientists involved?

Thankfully this is the only case where he's done that. Let's just chalk it up to an authors growth pains and move on to better, brighter things

But SAO is 25 episodes. Nothing has changed.

Do you have something against fat monsters?

In all seriousness though, maybe it was for novelty or something? I can't remember what sort of genre tastes were the mainstream types and what was considered rare 10 years ago.
