I've got the blues

Howdy,

I just got done watching Elfen Lied and was pretty bowled over by the mood, can anyone recommend anything just as melancholic?

I second Madoka Magica. Will recommend Angel Beats! as well.

Thirding Madoka Magica. Don't let the first two episodes fool you, it's full of despair.

Also try Ano Hana and don't forget the tissues.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, these all look interesting. Except Claymore, definitely the worst anime I've sat and watched. I started Noein before I posted this thread but it's a bit hit or miss. If anyone has any others.
