Surprisingly, I find the OP full version pretty decent. It is a bit sappy and melodramatic but it does suit the series well.

As for shipping, kinda weird that I don't have strong feelings in any direction in regards to Hikari. Like Tsumugu NTRs him and takes Manaka away? Uhh, sure, no problem: Tsumugu is actually a decent guy. His other best friend steals Chii-chan away also? It's ok, as he seems to have her best interests in mind more than Hikari. Hikari gets on with Miuna in the future? Certainly would be interesting to see how this plays out considering their age difference; would like to see a more mature approach to Kodomo no Jikan I guess.

But there isn't that much of a difference in age, 2-3 years at the most. Hikari is in middle school and Miuna is in third year of elementary school. Miuna is approx. 8-9 yo with Hikari being 11-12 yo at the most. They both just have to wait until they get a lot older. That's all.

And since I'm sure there'll be a timeskip, there might actually be something there. Would be interesting to see a character like Miuna win.

Miuna and Tsugumu would be 2 candidates to receive Ena if the show went that route to keep the Sea village with more children in the future. They are 2 land characters that voiced loving the sea.

I have also been wondering a lot about the theme of offering the maiden too, and wondering if it will be used in the story to somehow resolve a big problem - like, say, Manaka offering herself like that to move the sea god to intervene and save the story setting from a natural disaster like you describe. Hard to tell at the moment....

The notion that halflings (or "quarterlings", which Tsumugu may be?) might be able to grow an ena is interesting. Or maybe they could give birth to kids with an ena, under the right circumstances?

I could esp see an angle like that being used as a way to "show" how the prejudice (on both sides, perhaps?) could be not only broken down but also seriously called into question and consequent provoking of self-examination.

Though I kinda doubt it will thump the audience over the head with that aspect of things I think something like that would be very much in alignment with the "look at things from a different angle and don't unthinkingly assume your thoughts, feel, take, opinion, etc. on a situation is the only 'correct' one" theme that was emphasized in the first few eps....

She'd just be a step-relative which doesn't count for anything. She's not genetically considered a niece.

That was really majestic to watch. We get back to the usual Manaka issues but something is wrong with Hikari as their class go on a swimming lesson. Even Chisaki doesn't feel too impressed as both her and Manaka reminisces the day when they are crying about something unforgivable each other. As I watch the episode, I see the magic that surrounds the cliffhanger, I'm really starting to appreciate the show even more. The drama doesn't feel too forced and there are plenty of reasonable actions behind the characters, it's like Okada is upping the atmosphere. It was such a nice slice of life so far and the characterization have been going so strong.

Too many feelings.

It was an okay episode but now I'm starting to wish the characters weren't middle schoolers. Yeah I get that something as trivial as a swimming lesson can be SRSBSNS to a boy that age but still. I liked Chisaki's cold shoulder treatment though. Not something you often see in romance anime and it's totally relatable. I've done similar spiteful things as a kid.

Visuals are breathtaking as usual. So much scenery porn.

Next episode looks good though.

Man that was such a treat! The art is breathtaking, perhaps more than what we saw in the previous episodes. And all that love, anger, hatred really brought me back to my highschool years (yeah those kids are a bit too grown up as middleschoolers). The more I watch the more grateful I feel for this show being a 2 cour.

Hah, if you think this early display of male pride and competition is only relegated to middle schoolers, then I must say you're mistaken. Even the most mature guy wants to look good in front of his chosen love interest, and they don't want to show weakness in front of others, especially a girl you're trying to impress.

The characters are a little too young for my taste as well, that's why I wish for a big timeskip soon. Middle schoolers' romantic drama doesn't do much for me. I've been more interested in Akari's side of the story, and it looks like it might make a comeback next week, which is good news for me. The other reason I wish for a timeskip is that I want to see Miuna NTR everybody

The visuals were indeed breathtaking. No other studio comes close to P.A Works than it comes to drawing scenery, and Nagi no Asukara might just be their best looking work so far. It looks absolutely gorgeous.
