That is absolutely total madness. What the heck is wrong with those idiots to do that in broad daylight and possibly opening Pandora's Box considering the potential social backlash this kind of incident would create?

They WANT social backlash. You can't have a riot without insanity from both sides. They are counting on finding people exactly like themselves but on the opposing side. They are looking for their mirror images to declare war on.

The only true way to win is not to play. To obey the laws and put criminals way the way it should be done. If retaliatory attacks occur, these two men would have succeed in their task at planting the seeds of destruction. I wish I have enough faith in the entirety of Britain to have no one fall for that trap.

EDIT: Heard a statement from one of the men on the radio. The line "your government can't protect you" is definitely a deliberate attempt to encourage revenge lynchings. It is Trolling in Real Life, with real life consequences.

News reports claim that a man carrying two knives threw a smoke bomb into a mosque and then demanded that someone come out to answer for what these two men did. Police were called and responded quickly and nobody was injured.

"Trolling in real life" is what I was thinking, too. There's a sacrifice involved with doing it offline but the goal seems to be the same, to incite negativity and disrupt things in general.

Obama shifts U.S. from 'perpetual war-footing,' limits drone strikes
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...94M04Y20130524
Quote:
President Barack Obama on Thursday shifted the United States away from a "boundless global war on terror," restricting deadly drone strikes abroad and signaling that America's long struggle against al Qaeda will one day end.

In a major policy speech, Obama narrowed the scope of the U.S. targeted-killing campaign against al Qaeda and its allies and took new steps toward closing the Guantanamo Bay military prison - controversial elements of the U.S. counterterrorism fight that have drawn condemnation at home and abroad.

I am surprised it took so long, but you got to start somewhere.

The Church of England exists to push progressive worship that the Vatican wouldn't do. It is hard to justify being conservative when Protestantism is meant to be the exact opposite. Once people realised that women can be Bishops and we won't get a rain of toads as punishment, it would make Vatican look silly.

Special Report: Why China's film makers love to hate Japan:

"For Chinese audiences, the extras mown down in a screen war that never ends
are a powerful reminder of Japan's brutal 14-year occupation, the climax of more
than a century of humiliation at the hands of foreign powers.

Japanese foreign-policy scholars say more than 200 anti-Japanese films were
made last year.

This well-nursed grudge is now a combustible ingredient in the dangerous
territorial dispute over a group of rocky islands in the East China Sea, the most
serious row between the two Asian powers since Japan's 1945 defeat. It is
debatable which side has the better case for ownership of the islands, known as
Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. The United States, Japan's security-treaty
partner, refuses to endorse either claim, only insisting the dispute be settled
peacefully.

But decades of officially sanctioned hatred for Japan in China means Beijing is
now caught in a propaganda trap of its own making. It has little room to
negotiate or step back now that forces from both sides are circling in a potentially
deadly standoff. Nationalism in Japan also makes concessions difficult for Tokyo.
But the stakes are potentially higher for China's ruling Communist Party under its
new, strongly nationalistic leader Xi Jinping."

Chinese filmmakers hate Japan because Japan can make cool stuff like Ghost in the Shell whereas in China that sort of stuff would only get your ass banned.

That's one way to see it. Writing behind-the-curtain government conspiracies is always a good plot for some intrigue.

I have yet to see Japanese anime creators make China look bad in the same way they occasionally made Westerners look bad at times in anime series... unless I missed my share of anime series doing just that (I don't expect there were that many anyway).

Osaka mayor says sorry for US brothel comment
Quote:
Tokyo (May 27, Mon): Outspoken Japanese politician Toru Hashimoto has apologised for saying that American troops should patronise adult entertainment businesses as a way to reduce sex crimes, but defended another inflammatory remark about Japan's use of sex slaves before and during World War II.

The Osaka Mayor, who is also the co-head of an emerging nationalistic party, said his remarks two weeks ago arose from a "sense of crisis" about cases of sexual assaults by United States military personnel on Japanese civilians in Okinawa, where a large number of US troops are based under a bilateral security treaty.

"I understand that my remark could be construed as an insult to the US forces and to the American people" and was inappropriate, he said at a news conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Tokyo. "I retract this remark and express an apology."

However, he didn't apologise for his comments earlier this month about Japan's wartime practice of using "comfort women". He insisted that Japan's wartime government did not systematically force girls and women into prostitution.

"If only Japan is blamed because of the widely held view that the state authority of Japan was intentionally involved in the abduction and trafficking of women, I will have to inform you that this view is incorrect," he said.

Mr Hashimoto did call the use of so-called comfort women an "inexcusable act that violated the dignity and human rights of the women, in which large numbers of Korean and Japanese were included".

Still, he claimed he had been quoted out of context to say that he personally believed that the use the system was necessary. He was trying to say that armed forces of nations around the world "seem to have needed women" in past wars and also violated women's human rights during wartime.

He said it was wrong to single out Japan for such violations, which he claimed also existed in the armed forces of the US, Britain, France, Germany and the former Soviet Union during World War II.

Mr Hashimoto, 43, has become well-known in recent years for his outspokenness. Last year, he formed a conservative party, the Japan Restoration Party, with former Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara, a strident nationalist. The party is now an opposition party in the Parliament.

AP
I should add that I listened to the same report earlier today on Singapore's Channel News Asia. The AP report is decidedly skewed against Mr Hashimoto but, frankly, it will be hard not to pounce on the incendiary news point he offered up on a platter.
