Agreed. Though I admit this version grew on me after I watched the opening again. Speaking of the opening, is it just me, or does the scene composition match the season one opening fairly closely at times?

Now that 02 is subbed, I finally get what you guys were talking about. Yes, using the S1 opening is an unusual move - and I completely approve. It closes the loop on Goro's dream, which is wholly appropriate.

As for the episode itself, it shows once again what a surprisingly fragile guy Goro is. For all his superhuman will, he's incredibly afraid of failure. As great as Goro always was, he almost never won the big game at any level - the Yokohama Little (where they lost in the next round without him, anyway) and Memphis Bats championship game being rare exceptions. In sports even the very best will often fail more often than they succeed, and Goro has never been able to live with that.

Sometimes, I wonder if Gibson is a good influence or bad. I mean, he totally forgot about Gibson until that TV interview at end of his high school and ironically, fell into the trap that normally plagues the villains instead of the hot-blooded heroes, the whole "I'm playing for a single life goal vs I'm playing because I love it" thing that's been bothering Goro way too much. People keep saying Gibson couldn't let go of Honda's ghost, but it is Goro that can't remove Gibson from his baseball.

Well, I hope S6 continue to show the ongoing lives of the rest of the minor cast. I loved how the ending of S5 showed all the characters who were in the past influenced by Goro, especially that Yokohama pitcher from S1.

Wow - that was one of the most intense episodes this series has staged. What Watts was describing is a real condition of course - most famously with golfers (putting) but a very similar scenario played out with a 2B named Steve Sax who suddenly lost the ability to throw the ball to first base. Ever after it's been known in baseball as "Steve Sax disease".

Looks like Goro's ticket from Memphis was round-trip, based on the PV. Our hero's trials continue - I can't imagine beaning a hitter wouldn't be a huge trauma for someone with his background.

I have enjoyed every season of Major. Its one of few animes i have followed for years. I watch only Major these days. S1 was the best of the 4 first seasons. S4 was a little weak.

S5 got more realistic since it wasn't an underdog story more about the pro Goro,other pro players. The WC storyline was great season.

I rate only Hajime No Ippo above Major as my fav sport anime/manga. Slam Dunk is nr.3

Trapeze (Kuuchuu Buranko) had an episode dedicated to Yips and oddly enough it was about a baseball player too .

But wow, Ep. 3... no slow start for this season.

Intense to say the least, it was a great ep.

I dont watch previews but i hope he doesnt stay too long there. I want to see Goro grow from this and still progress in Majors as a player.

Hard to say,I would say i really liked all the seasons so far
But season 1 would be my first pick if i had to choose followed by season 5.
I had a bit of trouble adjusting at the beginning of season 2 but then it i went better again

Somewhat of a slower episode after the motor mess-up of last episode. You'd think Goro would learn by now that his brute force mentality in dealing with problems isn't effective, considering the kind of things he suffered as a result of it. Not limited by a broken right shoulder, nearly screwing up Toshiya's education opportunities, nearly having his leg broken beyond athletic recovery, and well, World Cup grand slam. The only season where his shonen hero attitude actually helped was what, the Triple AAA arc?

Nice to see someone who knows how to chill about accidental mistakes though. And what's this? Pedro(sp?) playing in Triple AAA?

Is anybody watching this season? It's damn good - great, in fact. So far, the best since the first. Surprisingly deep and very bittersweet - really, about the time Goro realizes he's not a boy playing a game anymore, but a man with a job. The best line of 06 for me was Goro's "This could be bad - I don't care about those at all." line, talking about fame and riches. Really, that line says a lot about him - for all his straight-ahead GAR he's actually a pretty complicated guy.

Too bad he's being such a dick to Shimizu and his family, though...
