As for Macross, hard to believe the same guy that created that is now making shows like Aquarion and Basquash. Maybe it just had to be the 80's/90's for some of the shows that aired then to be as they were, but maybe Psycho-Pass will prove me wrong. Not that you don't still get more of the grittiness in OVAs and Movies, but for TV anime it's definitely different, though maybe a little less so lately.

Anyway I have a hunch this is going to be one of those animes. You know, the ones that do better over here than they do over in Japan. Might be wrong though, it really seems like Japan is starting to embrace a harder edge again even in the shows that still make use of moe tropes so if Urobuchi is looking to something like this sounds and have there be potential for great financial success as well I think he picked about the best possible time in what may be the best possible season.

Loved the 1st EP.

Trailers lowered my expectations badly, but the real deal turned to be a nicely done work.
Pacifist girl and some character designes still are the problematic parts for me though.

Oh, and Egoist for the ending will always bring back GC memories

So apparently this is the worst anime ever because it has *GASP* rape in it, even though it's a dystopic setting about criminals.

You do know that people are close-minded, right?

While the first episode has rape (which I don't mind since I'm open-minded, but only limited to an extent), I can expect the show to be episodic considering the plot.

Btw, it seems Akane is the protagonist, at least in this first episode. We'll see what happens later on.

Ep 1...

If K is trying too hard to be cool, Psycho-Pass is trying too hard to be edgy... dark and edgy, even.

Spoiler for ep 1:

Anyway, despite all the above it wasn't bad, so I'll give it a few more episodes... then again, if it's the usual Noitamina length I might as well see it through.

She won't die. She's this show's Madoka. Urobuchi will torture her a bit, but she'll come around at the end and save the world.

Torture might be an understatement.

Her Psycho coefficient will go up sooner or later.

I'm curious to see how high and if it costs her.

Poor little police girl newbie lol
They sure pushed her into action fast.
I like the guns they use, they're pretty cool ^^
Lots of nice explanations in first episode.
I liked that part.
I'll be watching this one!

Or maybe not. Not everyone responds to pain (physical or psychological) the same way. We'll see.

Episode 1

Pretty solid introductory episode. The art direction on this show is really good. city backdrop at night, the rain, the decay, etc. There's a good amount of background detail creating a convincing dystopian setting. The music is fantastic too. There are some great tracks accompanying the various scenes, and I really dig the opening song.

The story in the first episode is pretty straight-forward, and it basically follows Akane's first operation. She meets the team, gets hands on, and the audience gets a taste of what the world is like, what the rules are, and how a normal police operation proceeds. The direction is slick and being a simple stand alone casual case, there's nothing complicated or tied to the larger story here, allowing the characters to be observed in their normal behaviors and such.

The level of violence and graphic content is pretty high for a noitmainA show, so it's a little surprising, but it still feels like a pretty "unique" show in the overall modern anime line up. Adult characters, team work, a serious tone, a little bit of humor, and an interesting hook in the opening scenes which hints at a larger story. I think it's going to be really enjoyable if they can keep the quality up, and have a mix of interesting stand alone cases while developing the overarching plot.

This will probably be the second coming of guilty crown. I don't know what's up with noitmainA but they really should stick to Josei.

just saw this new release,

...so many new releases this season

hmm Gen Urobochi & KanaHana, will be monitoring this, 1st eps good for me though hope it turns out real good.

felt like was watching Blade Runner at the start ( One of my fave films :-) , so i guess that's a favorable thing). End explanation and plot premiss brings it closer to Minority Report though, i suspect the protagonists dilemma will revolve around the same... with urobochi's twists of course

No one said it's the worst anime ever, but rape is a cheap plot device, especially when the victim is just a prop to show off how gritty the world is and how depraved the bad guy is.
