So quick question, I am a fan of Kenji Kamiyama. But I wouldn't say I am a huge fan. Let me put this another way: I was a big fan of is work on GITS:SAC, but I detested Moribito: Gaurdian of the Spirit. So, I guess I would say that I think he has an interesting style but I don't flock toward all of his works in obsession.

So, before I start watching I would like to know whether or not you think this show is closer to Moribito or his work on SAC? I really would like to give it a shot but if it moves too slow then it may not be the right show for me.

Well, unlike Moribito, it's not set in a fantasy setting. And since it's only 11 episodes long, the pace shouldn't be a problem either. I'd say go for it.

Hm. I'm not sure what you are refering on Cats.
Do you mean, what do they need to "save japan" from? Or by cathastrophic problem are you referring on the careless monday and it's circumstances?

So far there doesn't seem to be any real impeding catastrophe. The only thing we are told is that the seleçao are supposed to save the country but no one told us from what.

It's been speculated that the seleçaos are supposed to solve problems like corruption, decay, economic crisis, crime and many other social problems. So far it looks like the seleçao themselves share this kind of idea.

It is not however clear if, should they fail, an even worse tragedy would occur to Japan bringing it to an even darker situation, and nothing seems to point that way although it cannot be completley denied.

The careless monday thing is not really a catastrophe since it didn't cause any casualty and it is regarded more like a shameful past event rather than a future threat.

Natural assumption from the start that it'll be the climax of it all, especially since they used the prologue tactic at ep 1.
By the way it's going, ep 11 won't cut it to end this, but may possibly turn full circle with the prologue.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with NEETs. Its possible that there are so many who become NEETs instead of joining the society. and they just keep increasing and growing until everyone becomes one. It could very well destroy their economy in the future.
Its possible that Akira had foreseen this before he wiped his memory.
There are examples that implicates this:
Akiras' shipping of 20.000 NEETs to Dubai. The random guys that show up and talks to Akira in Episode...(don't remember.). There's also alot of mentions about NEETs overall in the series

Looking in RL, NEETs sure are a big problem to the japanese society and economy.

General, I've got to disagree.

There isn't really a specific problem.
Like Saki said in episode 1, it's just a 'bad atmosphere'.

Every selecao has their own opinion of what's broken, and how to fix it.

Spoiler for first few episodes:

Pre mind wipe #9 would agree with you, that the problem was the NEETs and how they weren't fitting into society.
But now #9 thinks the opposite, that the problem is society and how it offers no way for NEETs to start their lives.

To another selecao, the problem was society's treatment of the elderly.

Another supports Japan's women, in her own quirky way.

And this being Japan, it's not surprising to discover that the militarists have their own diagnosis.

^^I don't think that's always the case. For example, I thought female nudity was tastefully done in Spice & Wolf. I think nudity can be done without any sense of perversion.

IDK, I there is a perception, or perhaps a stereotype, that says most NEETS are males. I don't know the validity of this perception, but it's not hard to imagine a female unemployed, uneducated, and untrained.

In any event, I don't know whether the lack of female NEETS esteems the female gender or ignores the female gender.
