There seem to be multiple inhabited planets in the galaxy with Humans on them. No aliens that we are aware of yet.

Gruier is from the Serenity System. Marika is from Tau Ceti. Chiaki...not sure. Since her father's ship is one of the original seven, she is also likely from Tau Ceti, and just goes to another "local" school, since Marika's high school is no where big enough to teach everyone on the planet.

Earth is someplace out there still.

FTL drives basically means interstellar travel. How fast or slow is up to the writters. But there is a Galactic Empire.

Ah ok so Chiaki, could come from Tau Ceti as Marika and thus the earth. Well now I wonder is it the name of his high school to Chiaki

Chiaki's cover story was her parents are transferring from the Usumasa star system, so she transferred from the Sea of Foreststar branch of Hakuou Academy (from episode 1).

Whether or not that's true remains to be seen...

Well the Tau Ceti star system is several light years from Earth's solar system. It was probably part of the group the colonies were fighting against before the Galactic Empire took them both over.

I also thought those cat monkeys were native flora from other planets. But on hindsight, and depending on how loose people are with animal ethics, they may have been GE creatures designed to survive on Class M- planets and help terraforming processes.

As a sidenote, I wonder how common is transwarp travel now. Maybe they won't even require conduits to effectively teleport across megalights.

(Which makes sense considering that Lowe wrote about how one creationist theory has the Shepard blow up all the Mass Relays...

)

Well we don't know how far or fast these ships travel with their FTL drives. Nor do we know if the Galactic Empire has superior drives or not.

These could be Hyperspace (Star Wars) equivelents were you could go across the galaxy in hours/days/weeks depending on the plot. They don't seem to be quite Star Trek Warp Drive style (as even though that is subspace, they tend to appear to be in realspace rather than in subspace). It isn't Babylon 5 style as there are not navigation beacons, gates, or the like. I can't tell if they can correct course in subspace, not can I tell if there is any sort of "shadows" of realspace objects in subspace.

It could be the Harlock/later Yamato style Warp, but that doesn't track either.

I think there was a show that has a fold drive that was basically hyperspace and subspace (mixing Star Wars and Star Trek ish materials) were the ships would follow a plotted course that was curved and knotted as it moved around realspace objects.

Oh yes it's true Tau Ceti is not in the solar system? I do not remember if the two Odette has used the hyperspace ...

Odette II has no FTL drive. She can't leave the Tau Ceti system.

Earth has not been seen in the show at all. Though it is suspected that Serenity was colonized from Earth before FTL drives existed. Earth I don't think is mentioned, but it is mentioned that they are one of the earliest human colonial groups. The Golden Ship was a multi-generational colony vessel a very long time ago from Marika's point of view.

Of course because of the motif used by they Serenity Royal Family....there family name, and the two sister's school hair styles has made it very tempting to call them decendants of the Moon Kingdom or Neo-Queen Serenity's 30th Century Earth.

The rose was pretty much the final piece that makes it seem even more likely they are from Earth....an Earth under the rule of Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion. If this was the case, this all takes place in the far, far future.

(At least Gruier hasn't copied Usagi's most famous catch phrase or pose yet...oh wait)

Hahaha glad to see I'm not the only one to notice the resemblance between Gruier and our famous Sailor Moon hihi The first time I saw Gruier and I am the raprochement it was mostly with the name "Serenity "
After I trust that the person who wrote the novel wanted fair beautiful nod to Sailor Moon

and who knows "Endymion" for Usagi will Marika for Gruier hihi

The various military and agencies of the Sea of Morningstar see pirates as potential force multipliers. As such getting one in their pocket is important. Maria is young therefore malleable but has potential as demonstrated by her first two crisis.

And of course the Serenity sisters and the concept of Pirate Prince Marika. (maybe they secretly want her to wear a tuxedo and a mask)

Yes for now the only real couple are Lynn and Jenny (lovely couple) and of course I would love to see Chiaki in love before Marika xD (Fantasy of a fan of Yuri!) Hahaha

And yes it'll be fun to see Marika in black suit with a mask with Gruier haha
