China just claimed they can claim Hawaii too.
I'm just gonna guess PRC fanboys are going to start singing "liberating" Hawaii tunes now.

I'm pretty sure the Hawaiians will be the first to object to that...followed immediately by the Americans.

I hope someone indestructible enough would tell the Chinese, "Well, you lost these territories throughout your rich history. Your loss!"

Privateer's acts are still considered piracy, isn't it?

Btw, on the topic of The Great China Division Plan (Mk II), I thought nationality is just an imagination society anyway? Politics (North vs South Korea and, Taiwan vs PRC case), wealth (North, South Korea) or different sense of identity (Singapore, Hongkong vs China perhaps) nowadays can easily split the same ethnic into two different nations.

Most country is having unsustainable social development. And more so in China due top wealth and social gap. If nothing to be done, it will reach a breaking point one day, and honestly human found easier to seperate "them" and "us" whenever we found ourselves in the most difficult time. If it happens (If) will China goes to war to savage its unity, or have their own civil war to sort things out? Well i just don't want to think about that

US questions Chinese plans in disputed seas

WASHINGTON – The US State Department said it would question the Chinese government about reports Hainan will allow police from the start of 2013 to board foreign vessels that enter disputed areas in the South China Sea “to get a better understanding of what they intend.”

“So until we have a chance to do that, I think we’ll withhold comment given that it’s just press reporting at this stage,” spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said.

China said yesterday that it attached great importance to freedom of navigation in the disputed waters.

“All countries have freedom of navigation in the South China Sea in accordance with international law,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei Ątold a daily news briefing.

Doesn't know what freedom of navigation means.

I'm guessing they know what freedom of navigation means. Just they consider those territorial waters rather than international waters.

No really.
International dick-waving contest knows no end.
If you assume the average mental age of any given country is about two and a half years old, the child psychology books are more helpful than any diplomatic study.

Only because it was abolished by the Paris Declaration Respecting Maritime Law, which has become part of international law.

Note : China had signed thr Law of the Sea while US hasn't. It gives China more political power to make US look like the bad guy if a confrontation should arise.

Which China ignores.

China doesn't want to bring this to an international court because they know they would lose.

The US recognizes the Law of the Sea as international law. By now you don't need to formally sign it.

Congress still has the power to create Letters of Marque for Privateers. It just ahsn't used it in a very, very long time.

Wasn't that the plan for turning over Japanese held islands over to China for the Treaty of Taipei?

Nope. All Japan did was RENOUNCE the claims to the islands, as it did under the San Francisco Treaty. There was nothing about transferring the islands.

The plan in the Chinese minds in 1947. What they got was just that Japane renounced claim to those islands. Only a few islands were named to be under any specific countries control by 1951.
