I've not finished the manga, but from what I've read and from the anime, I don't think we really learn why Kashiwa is depressed. She might actually have needed medication, though probably not the entire pharmacy she's carrying about in the first half of the story. I think she feels uncomfortable being as undirected as she is when high school comes to a close. Those feelings aren't helped any by the sexism and repressive office politics she later faces in her professional career either.

You might be interested to read the discussion above about Kashiwa starting with this post:

Thanks I will read it..

Kashiwa(manga) is a bit different from kashiwa(anime)... even her feelings for jougasaki...

But well I think she will be happy ,jougasaki is a good man.

I just finished the anime. Obviously the last 1/4 differs from the manga as the anime was already in production before the manga was finished. I was actually ok with the anime ending. I would love to see a continuation 5 years later. It's 2011 - Sato is a game scenario writer, Misaki is about to graduate university. They're engaged and....

Oh and is there any way in heaven to obtain the soundtracks? "Hitori Bochi" is as devastating as prime-era Radiohead.

Thread necromancy here, but seeing how this is the main NHK anime thread, I was wondering if there were any plans for a BD release, either in R1 or R2?

Super necro!!

I guess I'm late to the party for watching this, but I'm glad I picked it up. Aside from a few episodes, this series has engraved itself to one of my favorites..

Though it has left me such a bittersweet taste..

Sounds like the original version to me. Why do you think it's different?
(Your Youtube link is broken btw)

I don't know if you already have them or not but they're on Bluray now.

Really good series. I really love how they took it out all the way and made the WTF-factor this big to describe the life of the main character. Only thing I don't like is how the quality changes from one episode to another; Puzzle has splendid animation in 50 % of the episodes and really bad in the other 50 %.
