13 GB of temp files? Since you say some of them are from last year, it would be best to clean out the whole folder. I recommend CCleaner to help do the job.
By default, it will clean out your temp folder, but be sure to uncheck anything that you might want to keep, such as Taskbar Jump Lists, web browser sessions, browsing history, etc.

^Not necessarily. I have CCleaner and it doesn't clear out my Temp files :/
But, you can manually delete them anyway. Anything '' important '' you might delete, as in something that is currently used by a program, will just be created again so just select them all and delete away.

Type %temp% into the Run prompt (WinKey + R). it should be okay to delete all of them.

ahhh, I found the temp folder and deleted it all, bunch of gibberish, though it was only 6 gigs big, so I wonder why it said 13 gigs on disk clean up....

^Because, some of the programs you might have been running then had stored information to the temp folder. If you had closed down your computer between your first and last post, that temp data was deleted.

You sometimes have the option of choosing how many temp files are allowed for the program - like firefox, you can set a limit.

Indeed, Internet Explorer seems notorious for having a rather large default temp folder size. (Generally 300MB+ from the few times I did a sweep of friends' computers)
