Since the child is never stronger than the parent and we saw a hint of Aono's powers and know that Matsuri wasn't at full strength, then Aono vs. Takeshi fight has got to be good.

Perhaps she has been hunting for one of his reincarnations for several hundred years and finally found one of them. I suspect that the overuse of power was her setting herself up as his older sister. More of a question is how she expected to keep fooling him as he grew older and she didn't age. Unless she would use her power to go from older sister to younger sister and then to baby sister and so on.

Well, if he goes back to the church, then he runs into Mayuko hopefully without Takeshi and so we can get her side of the story and get some info on Yorito. Mayuko did ask "Was it him?" in ep. 2 so something is up with Yorito too imo.

Although it's difficult to say, because it's so plain. But if I were to wager a guess, I'd say late feudal, or maybe a bit into Edo period. The plainness could be because he's poor, or he just wanted to be inconspicuous. (The villagers who want to kill Matsuri may not know he's been helping her.) Aono, OTOH, is wearing more elaborate clothing.

Also, Matsuri and Aono are both much younger looking. Yorito may even be slightly older than he is now. If yaka show signs of aging, and their appearance isn't merely part of their magic, then they would grow older very slowly. After only 17 years, Mayuko looks exactly as she did when she died. But Matsuri and Aono have managed to gain a few years.

Takeshi's flashback last week was from 17 years ago. I think it's pretty clear now that it was Mayuko in the pool of blood, and that's when she became yaka. Aono claims to be 17 years old.

6. We still don't know why Koyori keeps forgetting to call Mana, "Onee-san." There may be a serious drama or two behind this.

The way Matsuri asked about Yorito's relation to Aono feels like she was expecting a different answer.

As his sister, Aono can be close to Yorito, but not too close. She can keep her secrets from Yorito. And as he grows up and eventually dies, she spares him the pain of realising that he means more to her than just a sibling. But it won't always be like that. Eventually she'll have to convince him that she's something else -- his sister would be too difficult to accept. A cousin or childhood friend. And then what? Pretend to be his daughter? That's a lot of work to go through in order to be with a person. But if she's that afraid of what would happen were Yorito to ever learn about his past...

Another question is left hanging at the end of this episode. Last week it was something that Matsuri gave to Koyori, but we don't know what. I hope it's something significant, or why mention it? This week Matsuri asks something of Aono that we never hear.

Meanwhile, the three classmates have completely disappeared. I suppose their only purpose was to add variety to the video game, but are irrelevant to the main plot. Too bad for all you Koshimizu Ami fans.

P.S. Lately, all of my guesses about the series have been proving wrong, so watch next week for a whole lot of Sae, Chisato, and Touko.

That's what I'm thinking also after I saw the flashback. It has to take place a long time ago in the past given the style of clothing then.

However, it doesn't explain Takeshi believing it's Matsuri's fault or how he ended up with the conclusion that it was Matsuri's doing.

2nd. - Aono saw Matsuri resurrect Mayuko, and Takeshi saw that as well.

Wonder which would be explained in an upcoming episode.

That's a nice theory, it seems very plausible. Almost seems a bit like the movie "Millennial Man" with Robin Williams. He saw through two generations of one family, and ended up marrying the great granddaughter or granddaughter. O.o

It does place Yorito as being fully human. But, why wasn't he ever changed to a Yaka? Or, is this only related to females? Something I think is more likely seeing that Aono, Matsuri, and even Mayuko are all females and are Yakas. (A conclusion that seems more likely now.)

But, how much longer can Aono keep resurrecting Yorito if he indeed died before-- many times. It seems Aono has an attachment to Yorito, something deeper than a brother-sister relationship. It also leads me to suspect that they aren't blood related at all.

You can think of it this way:
- In one lifespan for Yorito, he's led to believe to be his sister.

- When he gets older, led to believe she's his daughter.

- When he dies or at his deathbed, granddaughter.

Oh man, the thought of that is just creepy. As sweet of an intention that is for Aono to do that to constantly keep Yorito by her side, how long can she keep this up without Yorito suspecting what she really is? It has to end somehow. And, if he does find out what Aono truly is and what Matsuri did to her, it could backup a statement that Matsuri told Yorito:

"You will eventually hate me."

!!! I see it now!! That's probably why Yorito might come to hate her. He finds out soon enough. Since Matsuri can't be or doesn't want to be around when that happens, she disappears. It makes sense, doesn't it? Yorito ends up coming to hate her. He lives his life alone with Aono, never moving forward, nothing changes. He eventually dies, again, and Aono is left alone, again-- hence, the title Sola. Aono then resurrects him/reincarnates him and the cycle begins again. O.o

I thought about that too. I don't know. My first thought was another stuffed doll that Yorito decided to give to Matsuri, instead of Aono, so Matsuri gave it to Koyori, instead. Hopefully they show what is... when Koyori finds the gift again, of course. :P

In episode 1, Koyori confessed that she felt uneasy calling Mana 'elder sister (= Onee-san)', to which Mana somewhat dejectedly answered 'Yes, I know', which seems to indicate that Mana herself isn't used to be called 'elder sister.' I don't think this is merely a matter of Koyori being cute.

Okay that's it, when the male lead of a story is approaching the status of most mysterious character you know something good is going on. Once the series has finished I'll probably marathon it or something.

Seriously, never in my 22 years did I imagine this type of story paying attention to the mysteries surrounding a male character, normally its all about the girls and the male lead is a stand in for the viewer/gamer. This series also has the advantage of not being based off a game and thus having to follow a rigid plot structure revolving around character arcs. Looks like a low-profile sleeper hit and that's the way I like these kinds of shows, no hype going into it, a small cult that discusses the merits and ideas presented by the show and best of all, no controversy every episode or two.

I can tell you one thing: I like your theories

Now that i think about it, this indeed might be the reason why Matsuri thinks Yorito will come to hate her - because she turned his sister in to a "monster". (There really doesn't seem anything else about her to hate >.>)

If this indeed is Yorito's reincarnation, perhaps the previous one died because of Matsuri ? (think another Hunter going after Matsuri; Yorito shielding her just like with Takashi, but unlike this time around he died from the injuries).

At least we now know the reason why Yorito seems so obsessed with the Sky - he wanted to show it to Matsuri in the past, and it seems like even in this life (assuming he is reincarnated) he feels some sort of an "attachment" towards the sky.

Either way i completely agree that the reason why Matsuri thinks Yorito will hate her is because of some deeply personal reason, not with the overall fact that she is Yaka or w/e.

Of course, we all know that Yorito is never going to hate Matsuri in a million years, but we will have to wait and see how it plays out.

(Unless it was stated somewhere in the ep that sunlight doesn't hurt her for whatever reason, which i wouldn't know due to my [sarcasm]highly advanced[/sarcasm] Japanese.

That power she's talking about might have something to do with being able to stand sunlight. That would also explain why her room in the hospital was kept dark all the time (it was, if I remember correctly).

Thus far, it has been shown that sunlight DOES affect her. At [20:49] onwards (based on [moyism]'s RAW), we see her hand get burnt from the sunlight. Her insistence on keeping the curtains closed also affirm this line of thought.

There has been no evidence so far to dispute it (or at least I think so... sola has been driving me crazy (in a good way) with its plot twists, and I have been proven wrong numerous times already ).

That might also be...but like Skyfall said: It would be pretty tough, if not impossible, for Aono to live a life a life as a normal girl when she get's burned in sunlight. She seems to not have been human anymore for quite some time already and her hospitalization was only 3 months ago, so I find it hard to believe that she managed to avoid sunlight before without raising suspicion.

Wow, I thought that was Matsuri's hand there last I remember. But you are correct!

So yeah, since Aono wanted to die anyways, then why doesn't she take a little stroll out into the sun? My new theory says that Yorito was dead at that time. Then Aono commits suicide follow by a revival by Matsuri. Seeing how Matsuri can revive people, Matsuri then goes on and revives Yorito (turning him into a Yaka) which is how all three people met leading up to the dream sequence at the beginning.

So maybe rather than reincarnation, Yorito is some Yaka that lived up until now, but with his memories lost and somehow is able to go out in the sun. Can wait till next ep.
