Challenges of a writer

Man I love PC and computers one of my favorite past times is buying more stuff to cram into the cases ie (Which is coincidently is sans one of the sides right now so I can shove a floor fan next to it... was running a just a wee bit hot hence my need for a heat sink, it's very redneck'ish but whatever works.) Another thing I like is reading articles about the latest whiz-bang hardware. I damn near popped a boner when I saw the benchmarks on the Core 2 Duo for instance, those things are some kickass CPUs let me tell you.

Like I've said before I'm a total tech head.

Evident. Core 2 Duos are very good but the $$ is a headache

Also one of the few characters I can find basically irredeemable at least he was consistently sucky as he railroaded the world to the apocalypse.

Consistency indeed. Although without his doom and gloom, the story wouldn't have turned over so many problems for both viewer and character to explore. Which makes it a necessary evil for him to carry.

Neither was his, he basiclly decided everyone around him was beyond hope and he was going to destroy everything; after all the pointless bickering would stop if everything was blown up… as you can see he’s not nearly as crazy as that anymore. Cipher stopped him by nearly killing him and ended up white washing the entire affair implicating a dead coconspirator as the master mind and greatly down playing Pixy’s role in the affair.

He disappeared for several years afterwards before showing up again, but a lack of evidence, which seems to have conveniently disappeared during that absence… (funny that) has made any kind of persecution impossible and so the TSAB has basiclly settled for keeping him under their thumb and supervision instead. He’s not technically a TSAB officer, but he is employed by them effectively full time now. Allot of that work is undercover though so it’s not impossible they might blunder across each other in their civilian guises or that he might even be sent after him at some point.

Still it was more from a personality compatibility standpoint then anything as he was compared to Felix which wasn't a really good fit IMO.

Something awfully nasty must have happen for him to take such drastic actions. Cipher's hand in the matter did help save his ass though. That would make a great piece for both of them IMO.

Pixy's under supervision but what if he snaps again during an operation? That's something heavy he and his team have to carry where ever they go. And both scenarios are plausible too.

Have you read my really short piece between Fate and Katrina though? That would be my first piece of story in this thread, albeit painfully short.

Haha, would that these things where anywhere near that structured! Well I'm an ICT student specializing in web development (though honestly I suck at it, what I really like doing is writing), so for years they drilled us into web accessibility and presentation. So I'm kinda fussy when it comes to the text formatting.

Hehe another reason to be a cop, you should see some of the hand writing on reports that deemed "acceptable" the standards are not that high. Most the reports in larger towns and cities are automated now though so you just fill in boxes.

I personally think that discipline is good and all but there's a line one has to draw, and crossing that line becomes more abusive than disciplinary.

It's a fine line true, but I tend to think I myself was coddled to much, and could have benefited from some tough love. Like I said it's situational.

We could make a Rock Lee style and have her accidentally drink the wrong cup of "water" (sake is colourless right?).

I acutally did that… but it was Vodka, and I chugged it from a water bottle in a fridge. SOMEONE had apparently smuggled said Vodka into Woodstock in said bottle and not having used it all had brought it back. I got at least 4 or 5 shots before the burning started and I realized what I’d done… or didn’t I had no clue what it was I acutally said “I think I drank poison!”

I slept allot that day.

I'm not really that into computer parts. But I really need a new hard drive. My burner is probably gonna go out of commission soon seeing as I've been busy burning out some of the stuff I don't plan to re-watch, because I need to free up some space.

I actually find it nearly cheaper and much easier to just buy more hardrives... I can get a 2 or 300 hundred gig drive for under 100 bucks, that's almost 100 DVD of space and that many DVD costs like 25 bucks. The costs of solid state storage has really plummeted over here anyway.

I have about 520 gigs on this machine and I have two more drive bays and SATA ports so I could easily add another terabyte if need be.

Then I'll probably need another DVD rom because people say its not a good idea to use a DVD burner to burn and watch DVDs. Then I've gotta find out if my 450watt PSU can support 2 hard drives, one nvidia 7300GT, and 2 rom drives.

I've never heard that I use my burner to watch DVDs all the time and it's nearly 4 years old now, shit it works so well that I actually got rid of the one I originally bought for this new machine and scavenged it from the old one!

Don't sweat the PSU the HDs pull very little and that card not much more. I run my entire machine off a 450 (stats can be seen in my profile), which I WILL need to upgraded (to around 550-600 min) if I go SLI, but it works fine for this. 450 is enough for most mid range single GPU machines right now, actually depending on exact stats your machine could be more low end in which case it's perfectly fine. The only thing is that C2D draws much less power then the old P4s, so if you had one of those you'd be using more power for the CPU, but I'd say you're slower clock vid card should balance that out.

I could probably remove the old 250Gig PATA drive I have and convert it into an external drive; store my dl-ed game installers and whatever that I don't need to use regularly; or keep those anime that I don't feel is worth re-watching but feel its a waste just to delete.

Ahh...but then in the end. I've got no cash.

What's you're motherboard config like? Do you just not have space for another drive in the case, or no ports? Most semi-modern Boards and cases can take at least 4 HD internally.

All 3 are more relax when they are with close friends, otherwise Itsuki would be a sarcastic lazy bum, Jean terribly formal and overly polite, and Sylvia isn't gonna bother talking at all. That being said, its not exactly written clearly in their profiles, but I prefer to flesh them out slowly as I write about them.

This is incredible! You're definitely on the road to becoming one of the masters of BLUECHEESIUM here!

Anyway, I loved it. The character interactions were well-detailed and suitable, the writing style is immersive and does NOT bore you regardless of length. The characters in themselves are quite varied with noticable quirks and dispositions... Are you a writer in a writing club in university perhaps? This is simply novel-worthy.

Consistency indeed. Although without his doom and gloom, the story wouldn't have turned over so many problems for both viewer and character to explore. Which makes it a necessary evil for him to carry.

Maybe, but I always felt he was unnecessarily so and that it was somewhat schizophrenic in it's tone, at the start he was emo and wimpy, but he looked salvageable, but after about the midway the entire tone just shifted and it got way darker as it descended into the crazy ass EOE. The Lead Writers mental health clearly effected the end product IMO and I'm not at all sure it's what he originally intended it to be before he was stuck by major clinical depression.

We'll never know for sure obviously, but it's entirely possible Shinji wasn't originally supposed to be such a totally worthless human being and that some of that stuff you said above is just ass covering by fanboys to try and write of the fairly abrupt and massive shift, and EOE was a near outright "Fuck you" to the fans that totally shafted the character beyond redemption IMO.

Something awfully nasty must have happen for him to take such drastic actions. Cipher's hand in the matter did help save his ass though. That would make a great piece for both of them IMO.

Pixy's under supervision but what if he snaps again during an operation? That's something heavy he and his team have to carry where ever they go. And both scenarios are plausible too.

Too much war, too much death, and with no end in sight… He got so sick of it he snapped and decided to he’d put and end to it: Permanently. Most of this is laid out in AC:0 Though part of the Nanoha version has also been written though it’s stalled out just short of the decisive battle that can be seen under the entry for Garm team in the story section Usea war I think it was.

He's fully aware that Cipher stopped him from doing something beyond terrible in a moment of madness and that's the main reason he follows him. He's totally certain he saved him from himself and probably death and he trusts he'd d it again if something happened, by whatever means are necessary.

It's also not that widely known of or discussed so most of the team has only a vague idea that he might have been involved in something objectionable in the past, not specifics which really only Cipher and Pixy, and to an extent Felix know no one else alive knows much of the real story of the incident as the History books all record that it was someone else that master minded the plot.

I think so too, but hard drive prices here aren't going down as fast as I like. Its currently around RM 260 for a 320 gig, 1 USD is roughly 3.4~3.6 RM so that's like 70+USD. Here we do a price to gig ratio comparison to see whether its worth buying. 400 and 500 gigs are currently way over RM1/gig so it isn't really worthwhile for me.

Still it doesn't change the fact that I really need a new drive soon, so I'm hoping I get a job soon after I graduate so I'll start getting cash to improve my rig.

I don't know if you have it over in the states, but I'm using a Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 board. Its C2D and SLI compatible, has 4 SATA ports all together, 4 RAM slots, and 1 IDE slot. I've got a C2D E6300 for my processor, 7300GT for my GPU, 1Gig RAM on 1 slot, and the DVD burner takes up that single IDE slot (not a problem cause I can probably make use of a master/slave config if I wanna add another ROM drive).

Its nothing great, and I'm running on some built in drivers and components. No dedicated sound card. But oh well as long as it plays my anime and can connect to the Internet that's good enough for me.

Astral Magic System
Introduction
Astral magic system stands for “Ambient STRength AmpLification” magic system. As its name implies, the users of this magic system collect energy—otherwise called Elements—from their ambience (environment) to power up their spells. Currently, the only know users of this system are the Templars, whose presence has long disappeared and thought to be extinct.

Templars
Templar is the term used to define a person who uses the Astral magic system. Unlike conventional Mid-childan or Belkan mages, Templars do not possess Linker Cores. Instead, they utilize energy they draw from their surroundings to cast spells. In traditional Templar Charters, every elite assembly of templars consists five individuals with specialized skills and Titans:

1. The Saint of the Scepter
   The Saint of the Scepter can be regarded as the leader of the quintet, and is the most powerful templar in the group. The Saint specializes in wide-area magic, and has powerful arsenals of attack and defense spells at their disposal.
2. The Master of the Sword
   The Master of the Sword acts as the secondary leader and tactician for the templars, and has great melee capabilities as well as physical augmentation spells.
3. The Sage of the Harp
   The Sage of the Harp is an intelligent advisor of the quintet and has powerful long range attacks and supporting spells. The Sage is generally weak at close-range, and would not expose him or herself to danger by doing so.
4. The Hunter of the Claw
   The Hunter of the Claw is a swift, agile fighter, preferring to disable or kill their enemies with quick, brutal attacks. Often, they act as the primary attackers for the mage-knights.
5. The Baron of the Mace
   The Baron of the Mace is the foremost tanker and defender of the quintet, whose abilities specialize in casting strong defensive and protective spells. Unlike the other templars, the Baron also has a Shield Titan.

The abilities of each Templar complement the others, and it is said that when all five combine, they would be invincible. The spell was rumored to be a powerful forbidden spell that can summon a mythical being.

Trainings
The path to becoming a Templar is arduous and difficult, as they have to go through intense trainings in various fields to succeed the trials. The trials are overseen by an Astral Master, who guides them and teaches them the Charters as they go along the training. In time, when it is deemed all right, the Astral Master would leave the potential Templars to form their own groups.

Duty
The Templars serve various duties, with their main priority in the protection of the Princess. They are dictated to lay their lives down for her if the situation necessitates.

Elements
Elements are to Templars what Mana is to Mid-childan and Belkan mages. Templars have developed a particular technique that allow them to funnel Elements—which are quintessentially the abundant raw energy that permeates the environment—into the interface between their body and the surroundings. When drawn, the Elements are refined into more precise and usable forms of energy in the Templar, which is the fundamental of Astral spellcasting. Templars, however, cannot draw in Elements that have already been used, such as Mana that have already been used to cast spells, because of the incompatible structures and configurations for Astral spells. Elements reside in all things, the most basic being the omnipresent air, water, fire, and earth. There is, however, a maximum range where the Templar can draw Elements from, which each one different from the other. So far, the known maximum range is one kilometer in radius.

Titans
Titan is the term for a Templar’s weapon, which is equivalent to a Device for conventional mages. The six basic forms of Titans are: Scepter, Sword, Harp, Claw, Mace, and Shield, one for each of the Templars, except for the Baron of the Mace, who possesses both the Mace and Shield Titans. Titans appear metallic, constructed from special materials that allow them to stabilize the Elements the Templars draw for casting spells. Additionally, Titans can also amplify the strength or capacity of the spells, making them more powerful at the cost of backlash to the Templars.

Templar Abilities
All Templars train through special routines that allow them to maximize their potentials. Elite Templars are able to perform more powerful spells and effects that normal Templars could not. In addition, the abilities of the spells are greatly enhanced when cast by trained Templars. Some of the Templar abilities are as follows:

• Precision control
  All Templars have a certain level of precision control, which basically means how well a Templar is able to control the Elements. Trained Templars can control the Elements so well that they can cast spells continuously without tiring. Also, precision control confers greater ability to the Templar against Combusting or Immolating when casting spells that require a large amount of Elements.
• Capacity enhancement
  Capacity enhancement refers to the amount of Elements that a Templar can take in before reaching the danger limit of Combusting or Immolating. Capacity enhancement also determines how fast a Templar can draw in and process the Elements, which result in faster spellcasting. Trained Templars can draw in huge amounts of Elements at accelerated speeds.
• Physical augmentation
  A special ability mostly for melee Templars, they can use the Elements to empower their physical attributes. For example, a Baron of the Mace can enhance the durability of his physical self by augmenting the Elements into his skin, which basically make him capable of taking more damage than usual. A Hunter of the Claw can increase his or her speed and evasion rate by augmenting the muscles of the body.
• Elemental control
  A special ability usually for ranged Templars, they are able to manipulate the very essences of Elements themselves, allowing them to control the forces of nature. Such ability is highly dangerous and commonly used only by skilled Templars, as it is capable of delivering devastating attacks that affect a wide area.
• Mana disruption
  A Templar can also disrupt the flow of Mana in another mage’s body, by physically touching the said mage and drawing the Elements from the mage’s body. However, such action is often prohibited amongst the Templars, whose codes of honor dictate the disgrace of using such move. In any case, the Templar is required to touch the mage directly without any barrier between them. Barrier Jackets and gloves are such barriers that prevent a Templar from using this move.

Dangers of Astral Magic System
As much as Astral is a powerful non-basic magic system, it has its drawbacks that are potentially fatal to the Templars. Side-effects such as dizziness, lethargy, and rapid aging are the signs of Astral overuse. Also, continuous use of Astral system drains the Elements of the Templars’ body, making them weaker as they age. Most Templars do not live past 35 years old, the oldest Templar ever recorded being 48 years old. Other than that, there are two other dangerous backlashes that most Templars would suffer if they are not careful: Combustion and Immolation.

• Combustion
  Broadly speaking, a Templar can Combust when the Elements they draw are disrupted. Elements are volatile energy, which can cause self-damage when not contained properly. Processed Elements are collected and stored in a Templar’s organ prior to complete spellcasting, to which they are all contained by a latticework of the Templar’s own Elements to prevent them from causing Combustion. The latticework acts as a barrier to confine the Elements into a particular area that will channel the spell before being amplified by the Titans. Inefficient precision control results in a weak latticework that could not contain the Elements properly, resulting in the Elements escaping from the area and burst out (called Combusting), causing damage to the Templar. Strong magic attacks are also capable to destroying the latticework. Combusted Elements usually damage a local area, and commonly at the organ where the Elements are contained.
• Immolation
  Immolation is the most dangerous form of backlash that a Templar can suffer. Immolation occurs when the Elements did not Combust, and instead, they remain in the Templar’s body. The energy of those Elements would trigger a massive chain reaction in the body, causing the Templar’s own Elements to excite and become volatile. The energy would become so violently reactive that the Templar would burst into flame, and there is usually no hope of survival.

Spells
Spells in Astral system are cast using Elements, the refined elemental energy from the surroundings. Astral spells are usually powerful, capable of creating extensive damage or protect effectively against enemy spells. However, since Templars rarely cast spells by using their own Elements, they need to draw the necessary Elements from the surroundings. This would require some time, but trained Templars are able to channel their spells at faster rates. Each Templar knows a set amount of Astral spells, taught to them according to the Titans they use, and cast by saying the Activation Phrase.

An unusual spell that combines the element of air and water for the Harp Titan, Leto, this spell conjures mighty winds and raging waves to attack. Depending on the availability of bodies of water and the caster's strength, this spell can be channeled indefinitely until dispelled or depleted.

Arcc's Intelligent Device is named Kern. It has only only one mode, which is the shape of a round shield with a short spike in the center. It operates on the old Velka system (though it doesn't speak German), as it pertains to support-class knights. Its special effects are light blue in coloration. Because its skills focus almost exclusively on defense, they are somewhat stronger for the amount of magical energy they require than the defensive abilities on a less specialized device.

Kern's Targe Mode Abilities:

Round Shield: The devastatingly obvious.

Bulwark: Localized barrier, roughly equivalent to Defenser Plus or Protection Powered. Its efficiency is optimized for shielding allies (or "friends").

Exoskeleton: Reinforces the bearer's body to reduce or negate impact shock, and improves the body's general recoil capability.

Target Spike: The only directly offensive ability Kern holds by default. The spike in the center of the shield elongates and shoots forward. Can also parry an attack from a distance, but this ability requires pinpoint accuracy and timing use effectively, so it's generally reserved for when an opponent leaves himself wide open while trying to break through defenses.

Crystalline Cage: A potent barrier that binds an opponent within a prism-shaped field. We've seen this before; this variant also attempts to crystalize molecules in the air to reinforce the field physically, though this part takes more concentration/energy and of course the skill to not harm the captive in the process.

Dust Devil: a matter manipulation spell; forces particles in the air to form sand-size grains and churns them into a small but furious sandstorm with a protected eye in the center.

Shifting Stones: A stronger matter manipulation spell; as long as the user is on solid ground, that ground's shape can be manipulated to a limited extent (example: forming a stone wall to deflect a physical threat, or creating a shelter against weather).

Arcc's matter manipulation abilities require much more mental focus and magic energy than basic techniques due to the difficulty of altering things at what is often just above a chemical level. He's not quite at the level that he can use these three easily without assistance from a Unison Device.

Kern's Full Drive is called "Aegis," and it is a massively powerful barrier of the caliber that only a specialized defensive knight can create. It can be small or wide area, but it would take the final Full Drive of at least a mage or knight of higher rank to break it. When Arcc is backed by his unison device, it would probably require more than one of them.

The last ability in Arcc's repertoire is not something that Kern can do normally, and Arcc isn't very good at it either. It's a wide-area offensive magic technique called Luminaire, which is supposed to deal significant light and lightning-based magic damage as well as blind foes. It was a technique passed down through his family over the centuries, which he was taught by his grandfather when he inherited his family's legacy prior to leaving Earth. One of his ancestors was taught it by a great sage of Midchilda long ago. However, every time Arcc has tried to use it himself has resulted in utter disaster, and it's too dangerous a skill to practice, so it's a poor idea even as a true last resort.

The other part of his inheritance is a Velkan unison device. She is human female in form with long blue-black hair that she keeps in a ponytail, and appears as if she were in her early twenties. When Arcc recieved her she had been dormant for several hundred years and was in fairly bad condition, and upon repairing and reviving her upon reaching Midchilda, she had lost most of her memory including her name. Arcc suggested to name her "Hope, the Eternal Dawn," partially in making fun of her, but she liked the name and it stuck. In spite of her age and appearance, she frequently acts like a selfish child. She has an offensive power of zero, but is skilled with healing magic.

Arc Collins was born on Earth, but his bloodline is actually Midchildan. His ancestors came to Earth for reasons that are not really clear, settling in Ireland several hundred years before the founding of the TSAB. They gradually melded in with Earth society while keeping their history hidden to all but certain family members in each generation who were chosen as heirs to the secret. Arc was one such child, and was raised in that knowledge; but he always dreamed of returning to the planet of his family's origin and training in real magic rather than just the fragmentary lore that he learned from his family. But of course, that was somewhere he couldn't get from where he was. It was a coincidence that while visiting England at age 16 he met the retired Admiral Gil Graham on a train, who immediately recognized that he had high potential if he were to enter the TSA Academy. Graham arranged a meeting with an aquaintance in the Saint Church to see if they would sponsor him, and he was accepted. At that time Arc returned to his grandfather's residence in California and explained things, and his grandfather reluctantly decided to hand over some of the family heirlooms that might be useful for him. These included the unison device Hope (who was in a state of stasis in a magically sealed box at the time), some very old diaries, and the knowledge of the (seemingly useless) Luminaire technique, which he wouldn't otherwise have been taught until later. At this time Arc began calling himself by his first name only, spelled with an extra "c" at the end because he knew his family did not want to get involved with a society they had been apart from for so long. Arcc spent a year at the TSA Academy under the sponsorship of the Saint Church, and then he decided he would prefer to work directly under them. Due to his use of an older-style Velka system in conjunction with a unison device, he was not well suited for training as a mage, so he decided to train as a straight-up knight instead. He has been under their tutelage since then, and although he is still technically a student and is lacking in experience and technique, he has gained enough raw ability to be a match for some of the lower knight captains.

I wonder how many characters you have that are completely focused on defensive tactics? My character may be hard to defeat, but he's a team player who really can't win on his own either.

Its a tough line to draw, and I see many parents who don't really know where to draw the line. Sometimes their line tends to lean more towards either one end of the spectrum.

For example, my aunt spoiled my bratty little cousin too much and now he's a stinking annoying little brat. She's trying to correct her mistake by showing some tough love now, after all those years of pampering and coddling. Too late I say, she created a pest and a pain in the butt.

Even professionals debate just how authoritarian or libertarian a parent should be, my Social of the Family textbook had tons of stuff on this and it came up allot in the lectures as well. it also depends on the kid, some kids are just better or worse behaved them others you can't generalize a child anymore then you can anyone else so that needs to be factored in as well.

Crystal clear and without much of an oder either, and that’s why they were smuggling it in a water bottle and it wasn't that funny since that shit burned I'm surprised I didn't vomit really, it was bad and I knew I'd chugged something nasty the within about 10 seconds, not enough to keep me from having downed half the 12 once bottle mind (I'd just come in from messing around outside in the middle of summer so I was thirsty)... which is something like 4 shots given my body weight and age that probably got me legally drunk.

I think so too, but hard drive prices here aren't going down as fast as I like. Its currently around RM 260 for a 320 gig, 1 USD is roughly 3.4~3.6 RM so that's like 70+USD. Here we do a price to gig ratio comparison to see whether its worth buying. 400 and 500 gigs are currently way over RM1/gig so it isn't really worthwhile for me.

I just prefer the ease really, burning and keep track of a stack of DVD is annoying, I'll pay more to just be able to keep it all in a little box inside my computer, and it's a hell of allot harder to damage a hard drive then a disk as well.

Still it doesn't change the fact that I really need a new drive soon, so I'm hoping I get a job soon after I graduate so I'll start getting cash to improve my rig.

I've only 1 250 PATA drive on a board that only has SATA ports. Not a problem since I use a PATA to SATA converter. So realistically I can add a whole lot more.

Well that's probably a myth really, I'm not quite sure. But the funny thing is though my drive still burns DVDs properly when I chug them back in to read sometimes it just hangs on me, and I have to eject the DVD.

Hard to say it's possible the read head on the drive could be crapping, but if it sometimes reads a disk and sometimes doesn't it could be a driver issue too it shouldn't hang in any case if it can't read it should give an error to the effect of "Disk unreadable, check for damage." or something. That said I've had my drive lock up on me from time to time and basically eat disks refusing to spit them out until I reboot that's very rare though thankfully...

Well that would mean I don't need to worry about the PSU for awhile, unless I plan to go for SLI. But since I rather game on my console than on the PC, I probably won't do that. (haven't had any PC game that interest me in awhile since my favourite genre is RPG)

I like RTSs and FPSs, and though the later have mad some minor inroads on consoles most of the bests ones are still on PC, and a number are coming out now, RTS on consoles is still a joke so my PC is my main gaming machine.

I have a 360 too, well had, RRD got me so it’s off to be replaced now and that was mostly for Halo and AC:6, which I’m hoping the thing will be replaced in time to play when it comes out. I chose to forgo upgrades to my PC to buy said 360, but that was about a year ago and I was way over spec for anything coming out, I still am in some cases, but it’s getting close in others.

I’m debating going SLI or Jumping to a DX10 card, the newer generation have some serious horsepower, but I don’t like the tiny memory on the lower end ones and benchmarks prove these can be a serious issue. The high end cards have good memory (600+ megs), but are still insanely expensive. On the other hand DX10 dose buy you future proofing, but then again very few games are using DX10 yet and all of them will continue to support DX9 for along time so it’s mostly just a tiny bit of extra eye candy.

I don’t like Radeon right now because their latest cards have been flamethrowers heat wise and I trust crossfire as far as I can throw it so if I wanted to go dual GPU in the future I’d trust SLI better. Also I’ve had a number of ATI cards fink on me a 9800 shorted out and fried itself (When something in the case smells like it’s burning, that’s bad.) and the replacement X800 XL ran so hot that the only way it was stable was with the case cracked despite several fans. I’ve never had issues with my Geforce cards though and so I now tend to favor them.

I’ll probably go SLI though it will give me somewhat less growth potential, but more raw power which will probably matter more for at least the next year or two.

I don't know if you have it over in the states, but I'm using a Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 board. Its C2D and SLI compatible, has 4 SATA ports all together, 4 RAM slots, and 1 IDE slot. I've got a C2D E6300 for my processor, 7300GT for my GPU, 1Gig RAM on 1 slot, and the DVD burner takes up that single IDE slot (not a problem cause I can probably make use of a master/slave config if I wanna add another ROM drive).

Its nothing great, and I'm running on some built in drivers and components. No dedicated sound card. But oh well as long as it plays my anime and can connect to the Internet that's good enough for me.

I’m running with an C2D E6600 with 3 gigs of Corsair DDR2 XMS2 667MHz RAM and a BFG GeForce 7950 GT OC, Sound Blaster Audigy, and the HDs are one 200 and a second 320 gig both SATA (and Seagates), and it’s all mounted on an ECS Nforce 570 SLI Mobo. So yeah I’m drawing considerably more wattage then you and power supply instability hasn’t become an issue; although I’m probably near the limit.

Maybe, but I always felt he was unnecessarily so and that it was somewhat schizophrenic in it's tone, at the start he was emo and wimpy, but he looked salvageable, but after about the midway the entire tone just shifted and it got way darker as it descended into the crazy ass EOE. The Lead Writers mental health clearly effected the end product IMO and I'm not at all sure it's what he originally intended it to be before he was stuck by major clinical depression.

We'll never know for sure obviously, but it's entirely possible Shinji wasn't originally supposed to be such a totally worthless human being and that some of that stuff you said above is just ass covering by fanboys to try and write of the fairly abrupt and massive shift, and EOE was a near outright "Fuck you" to the fans that totally shafted the character beyond redemption IMO.

I'll add that he was to carry the evils of the writers as well. I wouldn't take it past them to get revenge after the the complaints and death threats from the fans after the series ended but that was a cheap shot on their part that ruined the entirety of the movie anyway.

Well the downwards spiral into the plunging mindfuck of a ride was evident starting around the 12th angel. Shortage of funds and time played a major role in cutting short NGE's promising future but carelessness and laziness on their parts were to blame too.

Most of this is laid out in AC:0 Though part of the Nanoha version has also been written though it’s stalled out just short of the decisive battle that can be seen under the entry for Garm team in the story section Usea war I think it was.

He's fully aware that Cipher stopped him from doing something beyond terrible in a moment of madness and that's the main reason he follows him. He's totally certain he saved him from himself and probably death and he trusts he'd d it again if something happened, by whatever means are necessary.

It's also not that widely known of or discussed so most of the team has only a vague idea that he might have been involved in something objectionable in the past, not specifics which really only Cipher and Pixy, and to an extent Felix know no one else alive knows much of the real story of the incident as the History books all record that it was someone else that master minded the plot.

Sounds like what could happen to soldiers dragged into long and senseless wars. The destructive capacity of a rogue or berserk mage on the loose is something to fear.

That would be an admirable bond shared, carrying the weight of each other's decisions and trust to do what ever they have to do when the time comes.

The most ironic bit is that the same company created both talk about having range!

Introduction
Astral magic system stands for “Ambient STRength AmpLification” magic system. As its name implies, the users of this magic system collects energy—otherwise called Elements—from their ambience (environment) to power up their spells. Currently, the only know users of this system are the Mage-knights, whose presence has long disappeared and thought to be extinct.

Mage-knights
Mage-knight is the term used to define a person who uses the Astral magic system. Unlike conventional Mid-childan or Belkan mages, Mage-knights do not possess Linker Cores. Instead, they utilize energy they draw from their surroundings to cast spells. In traditional Mage-knight Charters, every elite assembly of mage-knights consists five individuals with specialized skills and Titans:

1. The Saint of the Scepter
   The Saint of the Scepter can be regarded as the leader of the quintet, and is the most powerful mage-knight in the group. The Saint specializes in wide-area magic, and has powerful arsenals of attack and defense spells at their disposal.
2. The Master of the Sword
   The Master of the Sword acts as the secondary leader and tactician for the mage-knights, and has great melee capabilities as well as physical augmentation spells.
3. The Sage of the Harp
   The Sage of the Harp is an intelligent advisor of the quintet and has powerful long range attacks and supporting spells. The Sage is generally weak at close-range, and would not expose him or herself to danger by doing so.
4. The Hunter of the Claw
   The Hunter of the Claw is a swift, agile fighter, preferring to disable or kill their enemies with quick, brutal attacks. Often, they act as the primary attackers for the mage-knights.
5. The Baron of the Mace
   The Baron of the Mace is the foremost tanker and defender of the quintet, whose abilities specialize in casting strong defensive and protective spells. Unlike the other mage-knights, the Baron also has a Shield Titan.

The abilities of each Mage-knight complement the others, and it is said that when all five combine, they would be invincible.

Trainings
The path to becoming a Mage-knight is arduous and difficult, as they have to go through intense trainings in various fields to succeed the trials. The trials are overseen by an Astral Master, who guides them and teaches them the Charters as they go along the training. In time, when it is deemed all right, the Astral Master would leave the potential Mage-knights to form their own groups.

Elements
Elements are to Mage-knights what Mana is to Mid-childan and Belkan mages. Mage-knights have developed a particular technique that allow them to funnel Elements—which are quintessentially the abundant raw energy that permeates the environment—into the interface between their body and the surroundings. When drawn, the Elements are refined into more precise and usable forms of energy in the Mage-knight, which is the fundamental of Astral spellcasting. Mage-knights, however, cannot draw in Elements that have already been used, such as Mana that have already been used to cast spells, because of the incompatible structures and configurations for Astral spells. Elements reside in all things, the most basic being the omnipresent air, water, fire, and earth.

Titans
Titan is the term for a Mage-knight’s weapon, which is equivalent to a Device for conventional mages. The six basic forms of Titans are: Scepter, Sword, Harp, Claw, Mace, and Shield, one for each of the Mage-knights, except for the Baron of the Shield, who possesses both the Mace and Shield Titans. Titans appear metallic, constructed from special materials that allow them to stabilize the Elements the Mage-knights draw for casting spells. Additionally, Titans can also amplify the strength or capacity of the spells, making them more powerful at the cost of backlash to the Mage-knights.

Mage-knight Abilities
All Mage-knights train through special routines that allow them to maximize their potentials. Elite Mage-knights are able to perform more powerful spells and effects that normal Mage-knights could not. In addition, the abilities of the spells are greatly enhanced when cast by trained Mage-knights. Some of the Mage-knight abilities are as follows:

• Precision control
  All Mage-knights have a certain level of precision control, which basically means how well a Mage-knight is able to control the Elements. Trained Mage-knights can control the Elements so well that they can cast spells continuously without tiring. Also, precision control confers greater ability to the Mage-knight against Combusting or Immolating when casting spells that require a large amount of Elements.
• Capacity enhancement
  Capacity enhancement refers to the amount of Elements that a Mage-knight can take in before reaching the danger limit of Combusting or Immolating. Capacity enhancement also determines how fast a Mage-knight can draw in and process the Elements, which result in faster spellcasting. Trained Mage-knights can draw in huge amounts of Elements at accelerated speeds.
• Physical augmentation
  A special ability mostly for melee Mage-knights, they can use the Elements to empower their physical attributes. For example, a Baron of the Mace can enhance the durability of his physical self by augmenting the Elements into his skin, which basically make him capable of taking more damage than usual. A Hunter of the Claw can increase his or her speed and evasion rate by augmenting the muscles of the body.
• Elemental control
  A special ability usually for ranged Mage-knights, they are able to manipulate the very essences of Elements themselves, allowing them to control the forces of nature. Such ability is highly dangerous and commonly used only by skilled Mage-knights, as it is capable of delivering devastating attacks that affect a wide area.
• Mana disruption
  A Mage-knight can also disrupt the flow of Mana in another mage’s body, by physically touching the said mage and drawing the Elements from the mage’s body. However, such action is often prohibited amongst the Mage-knights, whose codes of honor dictate the disgrace of using such move. In any case, the Mage-knight is required to touch the mage directly without any barrier between them. Barrier Jackets and gloves are such barriers that prevent a Mage-knight from using this move.

Dangers of Astral Magic System
As much as Astral is a powerful non-basic magic system, it has its drawbacks that are potentially fatal to the Mage-knights. Side-effects such as dizziness, lethargy, and rapid aging are the signs of Astral overuse. Also, continuous use of Astral system drains the Elements of the Mage-knight’s body, making them weaker as they age. Most Mage-knights do not live past 35 years old, the oldest Mage-knight ever recorded being 48 years old. Other than that, there are two other dangerous backlashes that most Mage-knights would suffer if they are not careful: Combustion and Immolation.

• Combustion
  Broadly speaking, a Mage-knight can Combust when the Elements they draw are disrupted. Elements are volatile energy, which can cause self-damage when not contained properly. Processed Elements are collected and stored in a Mage-knight’s organ prior to complete spellcasting, to which they are all contained by a latticework of the Mage-knight’s own Elements to prevent them from causing Combusting. The latticework acts as a barrier to confine the Elements into a particular area that will channel the spell before being amplified by the Titans. Inefficient precision control results in a weak latticework that could not contain the Elements properly, resulting in the Elements escaping from the area and burst out (called Combusting), causing damage to the Mage-knight. Strong magic attacks are also capable to destroying the latticework. Combusted Elements usually damage a local area, and commonly at the organ where the Elements are contained.
• Immolation
  Immolation is the most dangerous form of backlash that a Mage-knight can suffer. Immolation occurs when the Elements did not Combust, and instead, they remain in the Mage-knight’s body. The energy of those Elements would trigger a massive chain reaction in the body, causing the Mage-knight’s own Elements to excite and become volatile. The energy would become so violently reactive that the Mage-knight would burst into flame, and there is usually no hope of survival.

Spells
Spells in Astral system are cast using Elements, the refined elemental energy from the surroundings. Astral spells are usually powerful, capable of creating extensive damage or protect effectively against enemy spells. However, since Mage-knights rarely cast spells by using their own Elements, they need to draw the necessary Elements from the surroundings. This would require some time, but trained Mage-knights are able to channel their spells at faster rates. Each Mage-knight knows a set amount of Astral spells, taught to them according to the Titans they use, and cast by saying the Activation Phrase.

Bluecheese here as well. Very nicely thought out and written, as seen so far from your works. Astral mage knights are powerful but have short live spans in exchange though. Not having a Linker Core was slightly surprising but thats no problem at all. And explaining their roles in a team did nicely link back and explained their roles in your story so good job overall.

Unholy Spiral is an attack that is like a vacuum cleaner cum tornado. Like one, it's quite peaceful in the eye of the storm, but the fact that you're getting closer and closer to Arcadia is not really a very good idea. The outside is a nasty sight though. it's a tornado of blades.

Is her Bombardment like an antithesis of everyone else's? Not really, she has horizon shot to make up for it. It's quite straight foward.

She does actually have her own Linker Core, but she also has a amalgam of 666 Linker Cores on her (plus her own), which makes her pretty good, but the magics, without the Book of Darkness to assimilate them, have no purpose whatsoever, so it doesn't really fit her. Simply put, she's an uncompleted Hayate.

But she's stuck with it, so well. SAD, when she uses magic, it hurts her due to the sheer incompatibility of the magic. That's probably why she needs Hayate, in order to reprogram the Book.

Uhhh, yes, hacking magic. Chrono did mention in As that magic was determined by equations. So far, we've only seen people who know how to use Boolean. I wanted to make Arkadia someone who can change the basis of the magic into something different, rather than just upping its firepower a hell lot.

I think she needs it, since her firepower is honestly, not too brilliant, even being lenient. It's limited. I guess when you're lacking something, you need something else to make up and mend the hole. I'd like to see her cut lines off some equations. Hee hee. Although the casting time is REALLY SLOW. Ah well, the ultimate nerf.

Astral Magic System
Introduction
Astral magic system stands for “Ambient STRength AmpLification” magic system. As its name implies, the users of this magic system collects energy—otherwise called Elements—from their ambience (environment) to power up their spells. Currently, the only know users of this system are the Mage-knights, whose presence has long disappeared and thought to be extinct.

Mage-knights
Mage-knight is the term used to define a person who uses the Astral magic system. Unlike conventional Mid-childan or Belkan mages, Mage-knights do not possess Linker Cores. Instead, they utilize energy they draw from their surroundings to cast spells. In traditional Mage-knight Charters, every elite assembly of mage-knights consists five individuals with specialized skills and Titans:

1. The Saint of the Scepter
   The Saint of the Scepter can be regarded as the leader of the quintet, and is the most powerful mage-knight in the group. The Saint specializes in wide-area magic, and has powerful arsenals of attack and defense spells at their disposal.
2. The Master of the Sword
   The Master of the Sword acts as the secondary leader and tactician for the mage-knights, and has great melee capabilities as well as physical augmentation spells.
3. The Sage of the Harp
   The Sage of the Harp is an intelligent advisor of the quintet and has powerful long range attacks and supporting spells. The Sage is generally weak at close-range, and would not expose him or herself to danger by doing so.
4. The Hunter of the Claw
   The Hunter of the Claw is a swift, agile fighter, preferring to disable or kill their enemies with quick, brutal attacks. Often, they act as the primary attackers for the mage-knights.
5. The Baron of the Mace
   The Baron of the Mace is the foremost tanker and defender of the quintet, whose abilities specialize in casting strong defensive and protective spells. Unlike the other mage-knights, the Baron also has a Shield Titan.

The abilities of each Mage-knight complement the others, and it is said that when all five combine, they would be invincible.

Trainings
The path to becoming a Mage-knight is arduous and difficult, as they have to go through intense trainings in various fields to succeed the trials. The trials are overseen by an Astral Master, who guides them and teaches them the Charters as they go along the training. In time, when it is deemed all right, the Astral Master would leave the potential Mage-knights to form their own groups.

Elements
Elements are to Mage-knights what Mana is to Mid-childan and Belkan mages. Mage-knights have developed a particular technique that allow them to funnel Elements—which are quintessentially the abundant raw energy that permeates the environment—into the interface between their body and the surroundings. When drawn, the Elements are refined into more precise and usable forms of energy in the Mage-knight, which is the fundamental of Astral spellcasting. Mage-knights, however, cannot draw in Elements that have already been used, such as Mana that have already been used to cast spells, because of the incompatible structures and configurations for Astral spells. Elements reside in all things, the most basic being the omnipresent air, water, fire, and earth.

Titans
Titan is the term for a Mage-knight’s weapon, which is equivalent to a Device for conventional mages. The six basic forms of Titans are: Scepter, Sword, Harp, Claw, Mace, and Shield, one for each of the Mage-knights, except for the Baron of the Shield, who possesses both the Mace and Shield Titans. Titans appear metallic, constructed from special materials that allow them to stabilize the Elements the Mage-knights draw for casting spells. Additionally, Titans can also amplify the strength or capacity of the spells, making them more powerful at the cost of backlash to the Mage-knights.

Mage-knight Abilities
All Mage-knights train through special routines that allow them to maximize their potentials. Elite Mage-knights are able to perform more powerful spells and effects that normal Mage-knights could not. In addition, the abilities of the spells are greatly enhanced when cast by trained Mage-knights. Some of the Mage-knight abilities are as follows:

• Precision control
  All Mage-knights have a certain level of precision control, which basically means how well a Mage-knight is able to control the Elements. Trained Mage-knights can control the Elements so well that they can cast spells continuously without tiring. Also, precision control confers greater ability to the Mage-knight against Combusting or Immolating when casting spells that require a large amount of Elements.
• Capacity enhancement
  Capacity enhancement refers to the amount of Elements that a Mage-knight can take in before reaching the danger limit of Combusting or Immolating. Capacity enhancement also determines how fast a Mage-knight can draw in and process the Elements, which result in faster spellcasting. Trained Mage-knights can draw in huge amounts of Elements at accelerated speeds.
• Physical augmentation
  A special ability mostly for melee Mage-knights, they can use the Elements to empower their physical attributes. For example, a Baron of the Mace can enhance the durability of his physical self by augmenting the Elements into his skin, which basically make him capable of taking more damage than usual. A Hunter of the Claw can increase his or her speed and evasion rate by augmenting the muscles of the body.
• Elemental control

Most Mage-knights do not live past 35 years old, the oldest Mage-knight ever recorded being 48 years old. Other than that, there are two other dangerous backlashes that most Mage-knights would suffer if they are not careful: Combustion and Immolation.

• Combustion
  Broadly speaking, a Mage-knight can Combust when the Elements they draw are disrupted. Elements are volatile energy, which can cause self-damage when not contained properly. Processed Elements are collected and stored in a Mage-knight’s organ prior to complete spellcasting, to which they are all contained by a latticework of the Mage-knight’s own Elements to prevent them from causing Combusting. The latticework acts as a barrier to confine the Elements into a particular area that will channel the spell before being amplified by the Titans. Because its skills focus almost exclusively on defense, they are somewhat stronger for the amount of magical energy they require than the defensive abilities on a less specialized device.

Kern's Targe Mode Abilities:

Bulwark: Localized barrier, roughly equivalent to Defenser Plus or Protection Powered. Its efficiency is optimized for shielding allies (or "friends").

Arcc's matter manipulation abilities require much more mental focus and magic energy than basic techniques due to the difficulty of altering things at what is often just above a chemical level. He's not quite at the level that he can use these three easily without assistance from a Unison Device.

Kern's Full Drive is called "Aegis," and it is a massively powerful barrier of the caliber that only a specialized defensive knight can create. It can be small or wide area, but it would take the final Full Drive of at least a mage or knight of higher rank to break it. The last ability in Arcc's repertoire is not something that Kern can do normally, and Arcc isn't very good at it either. It's a wide-area offensive magic technique called Luminaire, which is supposed to deal significant light and lightning-based magic damage as well as blind foes. The other part of his inheritance is a Velkan unison device. She is human female in form with long blue-black hair that she keeps in a ponytail, and appears as if she were in her early twenties. When Arcc recieved her she had been dormant for several hundred years and was in fairly bad condition, and upon repairing and reviving her upon reaching Midchilda, she had lost most of her memory including her name. Arcc suggested to name her "Hope, the Eternal Dawn," partially in making fun of her, but she liked the name and it stuck. In spite of her age and appearance, she frequently acts like a selfish child. She has an offensive power of zero, but is skilled with healing magic.

Arc Collins was born on Earth, but his bloodline is actually Midchildan. His ancestors came to Earth for reasons that are not really clear, settling in Ireland several hundred years before the founding of the TSAB. They gradually melded in with Earth society while keeping their history hidden to all but certain family members in each generation who were chosen as heirs to the secret. Arc was one such child, and was raised in that knowledge; but he always dreamed of returning to the planet of his family's origin and training in real magic rather than just the fragmentary lore that he learned from his family. But of course, that was somewhere he couldn't get from where he was. It was a coincidence that while visiting England at age 16 he met the retired Admiral Gil Graham on a train, who immediately recognized that he had high potential if he were to enter the TSA Academy. Graham arranged a meeting with an aquaintance in the Saint Church to see if they would sponsor him, and he was accepted. At that time Arc returned to his grandfather's residence in California and explained things, and his grandfather reluctantly decided to hand over some of the family heirlooms that might be useful for him. These included the unison device Hope (who was in a state of stasis in a magically sealed box at the time), some very old diaries, and the knowledge of the (seemingly useless) Luminaire technique, which he wouldn't otherwise have been taught until later. At this time Arc began calling himself by his first name only, spelled with an extra "c" at the end because he knew his family did not want to get involved with a society they had been apart from for so long. Arcc spent a year at the TSA Academy under the sponsorship of the Saint Church, and then he decided he would prefer to work directly under them. Due to his use of an older-style Velka system in conjunction with a unison device, he was not well suited for training as a mage, so he decided to train as a straight-up knight instead. He has been under their tutelage since then, and although he is still technically a student and is lacking in experience and technique, he has gained enough raw ability to be a match for some of the lower knight captains.

I wonder how many characters you have that are completely focused on defensive tactics? My character may be hard to defeat, but he's a team player who really can't win on his own either.

The thread's first char was Kha the Tankadin, and also the first total defence character, until character development pushed him towards utility. About time we got a Protection Warrior to Main Tank for the thread.

Just one small problem: Because of the Ancient Belka UD, this runs in counter with canon, unless this discovery took place after StrikerS.

It's not that surprising, I actually once read an entire novel (Harry Potter 6, was it?) under two days. I could have done it in one but we were told to sleep already.

Parts of it would have been from me, but the things he would be reading would be much more varied than what I read. After all, This is my OC who finished his university education in the UK before moving to the TSAB areas. (More on this when I get around to writing his proper back story.. Hopefully once semester is over in 3-4 weeks.)

Trainings

Elements
Elements are to Mage-knights what Mana is to Mid-childan and Belkan mages. When drawn, the Elements are refined into more precise and usable forms of energy in the Mage-knight, which is the fundamental of Astral spellcasting. Titans

When Arcc recieved her she had been dormant for several hundred years and was in fairly bad condition, and upon repairing and reviving her upon reaching Midchilda, she had lost most of her memory including her name. Arcc suggested to name her "Hope, the Eternal Dawn," partially in making fun of her, but she liked the name and it stuck. In spite of her age and appearance, she frequently acts like a selfish child. She has an offensive power of zero, but is skilled with healing magic.

Arc Collins was born on Earth, but his bloodline is actually Midchildan. His ancestors came to Earth for reasons that are not really clear, settling in Ireland several hundred years before the founding of the TSAB. They gradually melded in with Earth society while keeping their history hidden to all but certain family members in each generation who were chosen as heirs to the secret. Arc was one such child, and was raised in that knowledge; but he always dreamed of returning to the planet of his family's origin and training in real magic rather than just the fragmentary lore that he learned from his family. But of course, that was somewhere he couldn't get from where he was. It was a coincidence that while visiting England at age 16 he met the retired Admiral Gil Graham on a train, who immediately recognized that he had high potential if he were to enter the TSA Academy. Graham arranged a meeting with an aquaintance in the Saint Church to see if they would sponsor him, and he was accepted. At that time Arc returned to his grandfather's residence in California and explained things, and his grandfather reluctantly decided to hand over some of the family heirlooms that might be useful for him. These included the unison device Hope (who was in a state of stasis in a magically sealed box at the time), some very old diaries, and the knowledge of the (seemingly useless) Luminaire technique, which he wouldn't otherwise have been taught until later. At this time Arc began calling himself by his first name only, spelled with an extra "c" at the end because he knew his family did not want to get involved with a society they had been apart from for so long. Arcc spent a year at the TSA Academy under the sponsorship of the Saint Church, and then he decided he would prefer to work directly under them. Due to his use of an older-style Velka system in conjunction with a unison device, he was not well suited for training as a mage, so he decided to train as a straight-up knight instead. He has been under their tutelage since then, and although he is still technically a student and is lacking in experience and technique, he has gained enough raw ability to be a match for some of the lower knight captains.

I wonder how many characters you have that are completely focused on defensive tactics? My character may be hard to defeat, but he's a team player who really can't win on his own either.

Hmm, nice character overall. I'm not sure how many defensive players there are in the thread, but there aren't very many of them.

I was a little worried about the inclusion of a unison device, but it seems that you've covered yourself nicely in your backstory as to why there's another unison device floating around. Very good job
