Poppy has a hard time early phase cause she has no sustain or a escape. so she can be ganked quite easily if caught off guard.
But when she gets her Sheen / Triforce she can demolish the ADC with ease.

Well, I only use AP Poppy anyway. In my build there are always 3 things : Sheen, Deathfire Grasp and Shurelya. The Gold per 10 is helping her rough laning phase (surprisingly enough, if you could caught the enemy off guard with just 1 wall slam, the favor is totally on your side, aside from stupid one like Rengar or Darius). Keeping her W at 10 stacks is also a must.

Once the game is going into late game with 55+ minutes I usually have a poppy that is more DMG wise.
Shurelya / Trinity force / Infinity Edge / Phantom Dancer / Last Whisper. and the last item is mostly situational. Either its a Guardian Angel if I die to many times or a Warmogs Just to be a bit tankier. If I do really well early game and get a early Philo stone and Sheen I will have a better laning phase.

AP Poppy: R-DFG-hammer is a 100% kill at 200+ AP. This makes her a very strong initiator, because she can waltz in the enemy team and kill someone off, taking little to no damage and probably soaking up some CC. However, she is very easy to counter with a Banshee's Veil, at which point she'll have to stick to someone else or bet on jungle ganks.
AD Poppy: sheen, PD, merc treads, TriForce, IE, exec. calling, last whisper. Eventually packs a ~87% crit rate and a banshee popper in executioner's calling, making her just as deadly as AP Poppy, but free to switch focus if need be, a bit more flexible (and end-game cheap) than her AP counterpart. Tons of MS, gets even more fun with W or ghost (because her W costs quite a lot of mana for the MS it gives, so it's best used to max your stacks instead imo). |

I don't think I need that much, though. Usually at around 120 ~ 150 AP and I could wreck havoc on the enemy squishy, without even focus on the ulti-ed target. Great mobility with W and Ghost together with Shurelya for initiator. Usually with just a R, I could scare off the enemy AD carry out of combat range without even bother to touch him, and keep on pounding the AP or support one. I would say I prefer AP for her bursty.

Duo Maxwell, what kind of Summoner spells do you use on Poppy?
I'm tending to use Exhaust / Ghost on Poppy lately since I kinda started with that spells since I didn't had Flash when I used Poppy for the first time.

On the topic of Banshee Veil, it's rarely seen nowaday, or at least at my place, aside from Singed. They just either have no MR, or use QSS.

Most bruisers still go with Banshee's Veil unless they're FoN-specific (Garen, Mundo, etc.), ADCs usually go for a MoM instead, the damage is too good to pass on.
