Tabi Machi Late Show
This is a 4 episode anime short series whose first episode aired today. Crunchyroll is streaming it. Here is the pv. And here is a little summary of it. "Tabi Machi Late Show will have a theme of "goodbyes and journeys," and will air four episodes, titled "Recipe," "Transistor Smartphone," "Natsu Matsuri" (Summer Festival), and "Clover." The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX on January 8 at 11:00 p.m., and then on BS 11 on January 10."

For the record I have seen the first episode and I thought it was really well done - some very good storywriting using a "minimum words / maximum content" principle. Quite thought-provoking, actually.

I'm kind of glad it's just four episodes because although I liked the show and the premise, I'm not sure it's something I could watch long term even as a short, as the animation of the characters movements physical made me ill, which is quite unfortunate.

Well, this is not a show you watch for the animation. If anything the show struck me as more like going through panels in a manga, or maybe a picture book.
I did like the story, and I think the images, limited as they were, accompanied the story well. So it's for the story that I'll be watching the other three episodes. |

I should probably clarify comment in case people get the wrong idea. It's not that I thought the animation was bad, obviously they were going for a certain style here, but that the way they've animated the characters movements, literally gave me vertigo. I actually had to stop the episode for a bit to get over my dizziness. I've never had this happen before watching an anime, and I rather liked this one so it's unfortunate that it affected me the way it did.

I tell ya ... this is a criminally neglected series.
The writing in this one is quite good, and the material itself is thought provoking. Just finished ep 3 a little bit ago and it was actually quite touching, but also presented the narrative effortlessly and with grace. ^^

As we got to the end of this episode, I thought "Is this the last one?", and I see from the first post that indeed it was. What a shame, I'll miss these short picture stories.
This week was an adorable tale of finding romance in the autumn of your years. |

I must admit that I did not quite expect this series to end in the way episode four, titled "Clover" did, but after thinking about it for a day or so I really have to applaud the anime studio for their decision in this regard as well. They have done a fantastic job with this series of shorts, and it has easily become one of my favorite shorts series ever (yes, I enjoyed it that much). If ever a series were criminally underrated and ignored it is this one.
