OMG. Ok at first my mouth was just open in surprise of this. I was NOT expecting Sheryl to do Enka music at all ever. To be honest... May'n, if she was the one singing it, wasn't all that bad! Sounds just like the music my Mom listened to all during my younger years. My okaasan is nihonjin from Okinawa and loves enka style music.

There's a new rendition of Aimo in the eyecatch of Ep.18. Just a line, but magnificently done. This is what I was referring to earlier about putting some real feeling into the song. Best version yet.

I like the new OP song but the animation wayyyyy too many pyshicedelic(sp?) neon colors. The music leaves a good impression and I liked the triangle motif they were going with but an opening of a macross show needs more itano circus'.

Ranka also sang songs from Sheryl "About my star", "Diamond Crevasse" not to mention Minmay's "My Boyfried is a Pilot"so it just fair that others also can sing "her songs" and actually Aimo is "Ranshe"/Ranka's Mother song, and if we go even further the origin would be an old maya song.

oh god! I just about died laughing from listening to Garby sing. What I wouldn't do to see those songs get animated. If Kawamori and staff ever pulls that off, it'll elevate them to legendary status.

Sheryl singing Enka is actually... pretty good! I was skeptical, but after hearing her voice, she put passion into it, I am very surprised.

Actually, nanatsuya's point is not who covers who, but how those who cover Ranka's songs always outdone by the one who did the cover.

I haven't heard Sheryl's version of Aimo to judge, but I think Ranka's Aimo is better than Maaya's. It sounds more relaxing to me, just like how people sing a lullaby.

IMO and as someone already pointed out, Ranka's voice is best suited for pop-ish, relaxing songs like Seikan Hikou, What 'bout my star while Sheryl's is perfect for emotional song like Infinity, Diamond Crevasse. Making them sing songs that are unsuitable for their voices will result in "weird" songs i.e Sheryl's What 'bout my star or Ranka's Diamond Crevasse.

While there are songs that both have strengths in, What 'bout my Star is actually Sheryl's song, Ranka sorta... ripped it off her and made it her own version.

Sheryl's What 'bout my star is very different in its emotion compared to Ranka's, and May'n does a good job at it.
