Exclamation Disc Drive Problem

First my disc drive opens VERY SLOWLY when i press the button now it doesnt even open/close. Is this fixable, i had my computer for 2 years and the model is Dell Dimension 5100. Please help people.

I assume you're talking about a CD/DVD type drive. Might need a new one. Read this thread that was posted just a short while ago. It even has nearly the identical subject title as yours

so basically i need to replace the cd drive, will i have to buy a new that has a dvd burner?

If you don't want to open up your PC then you can always go for a external USB 2.0 DVD writer, but you end up paying about double for a do it your self enclosure and more then 3 times for a already built one.

one more thing, replacing the disc drive wont affect any of my files on the harddrive?

No, of course not. They're two completely unrelated pieces of hardware.

Nope, replacing your optical drive won't affect your harddrive at all...
